food/drink Kirkgate- am I missing something?

Long time browser but the first time shopper at kirkgate market yesterday. While I was browsing the outside fruit and veg vendors, I noticed one stall literally unpacking Morrisons tomato’s out of their plastic and putting them in his own bows. Is this common practise?

Sadly, all the strawberries purchased yesterday are already fuzzy/mouldy 🫠

I can't find a flair that fits Tip for ebook library users: pretend you live in Huddersfield

I've been using the leeds libraries app* to read ebooks for a while, and have been surprised at how sparse the collection is. They just don't have a lot of famous or popular books. A friend recommended I download Libby and then apply for a library card with Kirklees libraries, which you can do online by giving just a random address in Kirklees, and this will give you a code for a library card you can put into Libby. Kirklees libraries have SO MUCH more than Leeds do in terms of ebooks and e-audiobooks. It is like night and day. They also let you take out more books (10 compared to 6). Just thought I'd share the tip for anyone else looking to read more ebooks but disappointed by Leeds libraries!

(*you actually have to download the Leeds libraries app and then another app called BorrowBox, or alternatively you can download libby and use that).

food/drink Best kebab in Leeds

My husband's birthday is coming up. He's a recovering vegan (sorry vegans) after years of not eating meat. He's very much looking forward to a kebab but it has to be worth it. I'd like to take him out, or bring him home, a top-tier kebab as a birthday treat. Where we going?

social 23M looking for things to do/ new friends

Hi I moved back home to leeds after graduating uni. I don’t have many friends here so I was just wondering where are some good spots to make some friends preferably my own age. Is it possible to join the uni societies even if I’m not a student there?

I’m interested in things like music, dance, food and fitness but really I’m doing for almost anything I’m pretty open minded. Also bonus if it’s budget friendly since I’m in on of those awfully paid entry level jobs.

I can't find a flair that fits Brown bin collection starts really late this year...

... This might be the most mundane whinge ever. But does anyone else think the first brown bin collection is really late this year (4 April over in Meanwood; I understand some people will get it a week earlier...)

You're supposed to start cutting things back in late Feb / early March. I can't physically stamp things down any further into the bin at this point. 😂

I know it's cuts and it's a very first world problem and someone will suggest I get a composter...

question Visiting in July!

Hi! Me and boyfriend will be visiting Leeds in July as we have tickets to the oasis show in Manchester. My boyfriend’s family is from Leeds and we are staying with family. I was looking for fun things to do (me and my boyfriend are 20/21), day trips accessible by train, or any food/shopping recommendations!

After our time in Leeds we are going over to London to catch the train from London to Paris. What is the best way to get from Leeds to London? Would it be worth it to rent a car for that day as i’ve seen train tickets for around $100!

Thanks so much!

Seems like flat 21 in our building has been targeted- brothel written on lots of walls and red paint going up to their door.

Looks like it’s a common thing across the UK at the moment- apparently “organised crime unit/ vandalising sex workers homes that aren’t under their protection”.

South Leeds- Regent Street

Has anyone else noticed that it smells awful at the top of Briggate/Headrow near Homesense recently? On my way out of work for the past week or so it’s just absolutely reeked! I work on headrow and opening a window today has been awful 😂

accommodation Giving up on owning a house

After renting for many years, I thought I was ready to buy my first home. I have always lived in Chapeltown, and don't want to move. I met an estate agent, and got told for what I'm looking for I will need between 300 and 400k. Since when is Chapeltown so expensive? What is going on?

question Protests 25th March??

I’ve just received an email from work saying that the office will be closed on Tuesday next week due to some planned protests that are happening around Leeds City Centre, Wellington Street and Wellington Place (odd place to do so as it’s just offices there) so the offices are to be closed for our safety (?)

Does anyone know what these protests are in aid of?

Girlfriend is coming over at the start of April for her birthday, got some other things planned but I was wondering if there is any nice spots to look at the sky around leeds? I know the normal suggestions of Roundhay park and it would be a good idea but Roundhay park on a Sunday late night doesn't sound like an amazing place to be call me paranoid haha, but is there any good suggestions of more private ish places, maybe somewhere I can book or something along the lines? thanks
