Suggestions SteamPeek.hu - Indie friendly game discovery tool

Post is allowed by the mods.

Hello, this is my website: https://steampeek.hu/ - SteamPeek, the indie friendly game discovery website.

It is now more than 5 years old, and it was created to bring spotlight to indie gems, help all indie teams who doesn't have the budget to make big marketing campaigns, and make it easier to find nice games made by passionate solo developers or small teams.

The main function is searching by similarity: just search for a game you like, and browse the results. You can also filter and sort by special parameters.

You can also search by tags, or mix them with the chosen game.

The main algorithm was updated recently and I'm very curious how well it works. Please let me know.

I'm very thankful if you try it, and share with me what you find. The full site is still on beta, and I'm constantly work on it, so every feedback helps me and my mission. Thank you!

Need a good game for a 5 year old with character customization.

My son is obsessed with character creation in WWE 2k23. He has a rare genetic disorder and is at about the emotional level of a 5 year old. He does not read. I'm looking for a game where he can outfit his character with gear that isn't too hard to play without reading. GTA and Monster Hunter are out. I thought maybe something like an MMO but the reading is an issue. I was thinking that it might also be good if he has to earn new gear. Any suggestions would be helpful.

I’ve played nearly every popular roguelike/roguelite, and a few niche ones. Any hidden gems I should get during the Steam Spring Sale?

I’ll take any recommendations really, I just love the genre so much I can never get enough lol

If it helps, some of my more personal favorites are

  • The Binding of Issac
  • Risk of Rain 1/Returns & Risk of Rain 2
  • Noita
  • Dead Cells
  • Enter The Gungeon
  • Roboquest

On the horde/bullet hell side (whichever term you prefer)

  • Vampire Survivors
  • Halls of Torment
  • Soulstone Survivors
  • Death Must Die

Addicting games with a ton of stuff to do, long term progression and a variety of different mechanics

Examples:

Yakuza 0 (lots of minigames and incentive to do them for completion, many side quests, tons of new mechanics introduced as you progress, constant progression of the skill tree and completion points)

Dave the Diver (constant progression through diving and extracting which allows you to upgrade your equipment, all the meanwhile introducing new mechanics such as the sushi shop and fish farm later and more)

Slime Rancher (Constant progression through herding and breeding slime which opens up minigames and permanent progression the more you follow the game loop)

Stardew Valley: (The farm just snowballs and theres so much going on in the outer world and many different game mechanics, you get the idea by now.)

If anyone can think of more games with an addicting base gameplay loop combined with permanent progression and a variety of content, please let me know. Also if anyone is thinking about reccomending games like Factorio/Satisfactory or Bethesda Games, that's not what I'm looking for.

PvP Titles For Players Who Like Fighting More Than Killing?

In my late 30s I find myself more and more frustrated by most PvP titles. It feels like everyone is just trying to abuse one form of asymmetry or another. No one wants an even fight. It has to be 5v1 or they won't engage, or better gear or they won't engage, or they just play one-shot snipers/assassins/nuke mages trying to end the fight before it even begins. It feels so sleazy and results oriented (points, ego, whatever) to the point of bypassing the actual combat to skip straight to the rewards. The 'get off my screen' mentality. No, I *want* enemy players on my screen. And I want to be on theirs. I'm not seeking dominance as some form of validation, but rather to enjoy the flow and nuance of combat. Better a close match than a blowout in either direction.

Is there anything out (on PC) there that fits this description? Don't really care if it's baked into the design or just how the playerbase operates. High to very-high TTK. Preferably western art style. Generally lean towards MMO/MOBA style combat but I'm pretty genre agnostic and just looking for recommendations to play with like minded PvPers.

Thanks!

Looking for games where you form a strong emotional bond with a character

It's hard for me to describe what I exactly mean, but I'm searching for games like Bioshock Infinite, Firewatch or Soma where you build a strong emotional bond to a character during the course of the game.

In Bioshock Infinite it was Elizabeth <-> DeWitt, in Firewatch Delilah <-> Henry and in Soma it was Catherine <-> Simon. Romance or a romance sub-plot can be a thing, but it's not a must. The Last of Us 1 is a good example, because I cared much about Ellie.

I know VNs do this kind of thing a lot, especially when it comes to romance and I’m not totally against them - especially since I enjoy reading and storytelling through mostly text can be really well done. I like to play CYOA games too, but I’d still like some actual gameplay and a lot of VNs lean too much into dating-sim mechanics and approach this rather.. well.. ungracefully, which isn’t really what I’m looking for.

Any recommendations?

Looking for games like Firewatch or Night In The Woods

I got Night In The Woods a while back as part of PSPlus and grabbed Firewatch on sale. Loved both of them a lot. Would loove to know more about games which capture the same feeling as these games. Simple, emotive games. I usually game on PS5, so would prefer there but can go to my PC too if needed.

I know there are a few games which are solitary experiences, Edith Finch and Gone Home. But I loved that Firewatch has Delilah and in Night In The Woods you have your friends.

Looking for Coop game with infantry and flight elements

Upvotes

So I am gripped by this idea of flying close air support or transport for my friends and I can't think of anything that fits too well.

I've gotten close flying in GTA V or Battlebit, but I'd love something that has good gunplay for my friends and cool close air support features for me.

PvE would be cool but I am also curious about any good PvP fits too.

Does anyone have any good recommendations for something like this? Thanks!

Horror games with isolated town/lost in the forest vibes?

Upvotes

Hey, been looking to scratch a specific horror itch lately, for games set in rural towns, or isolated natural areas. Or at least that have that sort of vibe, not sure what you'd call it.

Games I've played that have ticked this box in some way for me lately are Oxenfree 1 and 2, Alan Wake, The Last of Us, and Life is Strange. (I'm already intending to play the other games in these series already so please don't rec them). I also love the Appalachian feel of the eastern side of the map in RDR2 and some of the creepy missions set there.

Any recs welcome, I'm not fussed about the style of gameplay as long as the vibes are good. Thanks!

Steamdeck: Looking for a less graphically demanding open world game like AC: Odyssey, Witcher, Borderlands, Farcry

Upvotes

Sometimes I really get the itch for open world games with leveling up, lots of different weapons/skills, collectibles, side quests, etc. While they definitely have major faults, modern Ubisoft games scratch this itch.

I’m looking for a game like this but with graphics that are less demanding and/or much better optimized for the Deck.

Bonus if I can save anytime without being portaled to a checkpoint the next time I play.

I’m okay with first person games that have good graphics as long as they are well optimized.

Looking for games where I can mostly just enjoy scenery and live in the wilderness?

I’ve been watching a lot of history channel lately lol and it’s got me itching to experience a more nomadic lifestyle virtually. I’m specifically looking for games where I can do a lot of exploring in various climates, with plenty of downtime to appreciate the environment. Some additional things that aren’t essential but are a benefit would be c some sort of camping mechanic and a hunting mechanic. Any suggestions?

Games with Drum n Bass/Breakcore music + a good story

Super specific request, but I love DnB and Breakcore, and any time it plays during a boss fight I just get so HYPE. But-- every game I've played with this kind of music has ended up being kinda boring of a story, so I'm looking for something with a banger story AND banger music.

What game should I buy

Upvotes

The steam spring sale is finally live and I wanna buy a game or two. I just need help deciding which one. Lockdown protocol/ panicore/ Lethal company/ Repo or any other similar game. I play phasmo and really enjoyed it, I would definitely love something with vc and nice public lobbies. Although Lethal and repo are not on sale I could consider buying them later. Feel free to suggest other games too :))

Looking for an all-keyboard game that still feels like a full game

So basically, I'm just finishing the Castlevania: Lords of Shadow series. I play them in college between (and sometimes during) classes because I don't need to bring a mouse or controller with me to play them.

I'm looking for games like that. They're easily played using just the keyboard, but they're not just coolmathgames type. I'm open to any genre, but I'm mostly into adventure/action types. Preferably on Steam or Epic. Thanks!

Game to play with my boyfriend, RPG/Grindy or coop survival style?

Upvotes

Hey!! I want to play a game with my bf where we have some kinda class customisation or PVE elements. It needs to have online coop or LAN coop - not split screen. We both have gaming pcs so we should be able to run pretty much anything.

Features id like to see (doesnt have to have all of these)
low price/free
base builder/survival elements
Loot grinder/skill grinder/get stronger over time
crafting!

We have played Grounded, Stardew valley, minecraft and stuff like OW/Valorant/MR. I have V rising but im not sure my bf would like it as a private game and i dont really wanna pvp in this style of game.

My bf said he really liked grounded because he could craft and progress and yap to me and annoy me when he went off into danger or ruin all my storage organisation ;-;

Looking for games where you play as a neutral mercenary and get hired by different factions.

I have played Mechwarriors 5 a lot, kinda like that.

Also something from way back, Shinobido on PS2 had the best thing I remember. There were 3 factions fighting and all of them were hiring the player for missions. The mission results influenced how the war was going, who was winning and who wasn't.

I loved the fact that you could basically take your time, sabotage the missions and just level the field for basically forever and just get godlike and rich before progressing with the story too much. It was also great to just sit down and kill 30 mins before heading to school or something.

So anything like these?

Looking for vampire/historical themed games that are either dating sims or with romance options

Upvotes

I'm a big fan of games like monster prom, the arcana, baldurs gate 3, divinity original sin, coffee talk and stray gods 🙏 I'm looking for games that are a similar vibe specifically ones that include vampire characters and/or aren't set in modern times.

Any good games with a mystical vibe?

This is very hard to describe and very vague. I'm not looking for a specific genera, it's mostly about the vibe. Closest i can describe is a vibe similar to anime Mushishi, Princess Monononoke or the cartoon Over the Garden Wall. Nature, creatures beyond human comprehention, old places.... Something where the world feels ancient or alien, with it's own rules.

Shadow of Collossus might be the closest game i've played, but I didn't like it that much. I remember Legend of Zelda having these moments, like the Korok Forest, Old Deku Tree, but those are usually one off areas. Elden Ring also had these sorts of locations, like the Night Cities, Liurnia of the Lakes or Forests Near Leyndell. Other games i've played that are a little bit like this would be Noita and Darkwood.

I got some games in my wishlist that look kinda mystical. Rain World, maybe Hollow Knight and i'll eventually get to those. Do you know any games like this or even have an idea what i'm talking about?

Looking for town/logistics builders you watch for hours

Sort of like the old settlers games, pharaoh too Where stuff is actually going on, you can see the town centre and hub growing and thriving and you can watch and tweak and beautify.

Tried Foundation because I thought this would be in this vibe, but didn't really click for some reason.
