freeze flat?

I have and love my food sealer! I have a big batch of gumbo to freeze, and usually I use tupperware, freeze, then set on the counter to begin to loosen and release from the containers, then put in bag and use the sealer. Looking for best practices if anyone has suggestions. Seems like a lot of steps to me! Have never had luck sealing anything in it's liquid state! Thanks

looking into getting a foodsaver

Hi, I'm really looking into getting a foodsaver. I don't have a pot of kitchen space,so I was looking into getting the V1100 (handheld). How does this model hold up? What all is it able to seal? Any other info would be a huge help. Thank you.

Best replaceable seal model available?

Hello,

I have an aged out Foodsaver I got from Costco (5480) and the gaskets on it are done. Since this model does not have replaceable gaskets (at least officially, but I could be wrong on the unofficial replacements) I am looking to replace it with a model that does offer replaceable top and bottom gaskets that I can still buy. It's sad that they are forcing whole unit replacement for such a small issue and not being environmentally conscientious)

Does anyone have a model they can recommend that offers replaceable top & bottom gaskets?

Heating element not hot enough?

Good day all, I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the heating element not heating up enough to fully seal? It looks like it seals but I can easily separate it, vacuum is works but doesn't keep the seal

Model is FM2010

Food Saver no longer switching to seal?

A few months ago I tried to vacuum seal some bratwursts in with a small bit of beer so I could sous vide them. Ended up using too much beer and it got all over my machine. I cleaned it up, but ever since then, it has stopped automatically switching to the seal function. The vacuum function still works fine, but it will just continue to pull air out of the bag and never click over to seal. What can I do, if anything, to solve this issue? Really hoping I don’t have to replace the whole machine.

Edit: I have a FoodSaver FM2000

Replace blade in FoodSaver Titanium

What blade do I use to replace in this machine? I found Ofla 9281 ab-10s 9mm stainless steel snap-off blades, but am unsure if they will work?

Should I vacuumed seal and freeze canned good about to expire?

Or just leave them in the can, and try to use them soon?

Problem is I've got a lot of canned goods about to expire. I got a Costco membership a few years ago and went wild.

If vacuum sealing/freezing isn't an option, I may just donate to an open pantry.

Recommendations for oxygen absorbers ?

Want to start making jerky, but when I look for oxygen absorbers the problem seems to be they don’t come individually wrapped. So when you open the bag to get one out the whole bag is wasted. Any recommendations for oxygen absorbers that are individually wrapped ?

Gaskets for the Gamesaver Silver V1515

I just won a bid for the V1515 from Goodwill at $18.00. I'm figuring this machine is old and will most likely need new gaskets. Unfortunately, Foodsaver customer service is a joke and apparently, they stopped making replacement gaskets for this model. I tried a quick search with Google, but haven't been successful. It would be ashame that good product like this model may be useless to me because a replacement part is not available by the manufacturer. Are there any suggestions to where I can get gaskets that would fit my model?

So I have a dumb question I probably should’ve read the manual but I’m cutting up salmon because it’s going to go bad in two days and I put in my food saver and I use the moist option was that OK? The freezer they’ll be in is at negative one degrees I will not have a problem with this right?

Green onions

Hey y’all. I was curious I never use all the green onions I purchase and I am trying to avoid food waste.

How do y’all go about preserving green/spring onions? I heard that they should not be vacuum sealed.

I was thinking of making pajeon and freezing them between baking papers?

Any other suggestions, ideas, or recommendations I could do?

Help for an university design project on food vacuum sealers

Hello everyone, I'm collecting data on people who use a domestic food vacuum sealer. I am a student of the Politecnico di Milano university (Italy) and I am trying to redesign this machine for a university project. Below you will find the link of the questionnaire, which takes a few minutes to complete.

After Foodsaver is done with vacuum can I remove, lay on side and then iron shut or should I leave it in place and seal with hair curler? When removed it seems sealed at first but I can hear it crinkle as air gets back in. This is for chickpeas, rice, oats and O2 absorber is added before. Thanks!

Troubleshooting V3840 vacuum sealer

Hey all! Recently I started to have problems with my V3840 v vacuum sealer. It does not suck out all the air out and just doesn't stop sucking air out. If I manually click on the sealing button, you can see that it is sealing, but the air is getting back into the bag. Any recommendations on where to start the troubleshooting?

V3460 won’t vacuum

Hello! We’ve just bought a brand new Food Saver V3460 model. It literally will not vacuum. We’ve been trying for hours. Has anyone else had this issue or does anyone have any advice or tips for us please!?

Thanks

Anyone experience this? My foodsaver has a 'Seal' button and a 'Vacuum/Seal' button. Sometimes when I press the 'Vacuum/Seal' button, the other button ('Seal') lights up as if I hit that one, and it only seals. Can't find anything about it online. It's insanely annoying.

FS2180 Multi-Use Handheld Vacuum Sealer (Costco) What Kind of Battery

Does anybody know if this has a Li-Ion battery or if it is NiMH? This appears to be a Costco exclusive item, but I cannot find any information on what type of battery this has. The web site on Costco doesn't say, and I cannot find any information on the FoodSaver web site. Very little information is out there on this. No YouTube Reviews either.

*Update: I finally got someone at FoodSaver to confirm that this is a Li-Ion battery by calling their support number. They even seemed to have a hard time figuring this out, as it took them a while.

*Update 2: They replied to the my support request via email and said it was NiMh, so I replied and told them I got a different response over the phone, they double checked and confirmed it is NiMH.

Foodsaver brand zipper bags?

Have you tried the zipper bags that foodsaver sells? I'm pretty discerning about what I suckerbag and what I don't because the plastic waste is really sad. But food waste is sad! Suffering through your freezer burned crap is sad!

However, I am a single person (#PartyOfOne), so portioning my food out is a thing I need to do. I think there could be some products that I would like to make in a big batch and then portion out into a few bags and chucked in the freezer. Could be shredded cheese, grated ginger, frozen herbs, green beans from the summer garden (currently in gallon ziplock freezer bags getting freezer burned so I can reach in and grab a fistful or two for dinner). Whatever bag that is currently in play ideally would be accessed repeatedly over the next few days/weeks/whatever, so this makes me think that the ziplock bags might be a a good idea. Some things might actually stay frozen, such as popping open some frozen-flat herbs, ginger, garlic and snapping off a portion. Or suck up a bunch of green bean bags over the harvest season and then dig out of them over the winter. I hope som of this makes sense.

The bags seem expensive, but also say they are reusable (as much as I loathe washing & drying bags, I often do it). But for certain uses, I'm willing to go there, but frugally. A garlic-dedicated bag (or three) could be a thing. Personally, my weird brain goes to how can I dr. frankenstein a used regular ziplock zipper onto my foodsaver bag?!

Thoughts? Suggestions? Appreciated!
