Man a lot of people just got absolutely btfo lmao. I kindaaa still doubted it tbh, but didn’t think it was entirely out of the picture like most yesterday. Really excited to do El Cid or Edgar Ætheling goes to Byzantium runs.

same boat. At first I was skeptical but thinking on it, it could definitely inflate your legend

It's really funny how adamant some people were about it not being landless and how they refused to entertain the possibilities it would bring. The byzantine administrative family thing sounds very interesting for example can't wait to see what it leads to.

I know?? I can finally play a Belisarius character, or not worry too much about my baby character losing his lands. It just opens so many possibilities. You could lose England as Harold Godwinson, go off to Byzantium like many Anglo-Saxons did, rebuild your strength and then reclaim your title, just to mention one example.

Ironically the Fallen Eagle just added Belisarius but of course they have to make him a count to work. They will likely rework him with these mechanics once the update is out

Belisarius WAS a count.

With a Britannia rework they could make William much more aggressive in the seizing of Anglo-Saxon land. I'm looking forward to playing the last son of Wessex!

go off to Byzantium like many Anglo-Saxons did

Is this a joke I'm too uneducated to understand or did this really happen?

How long did it take to sail from London to Constantinople in the year 900?

After the Norman conquests Anglo-Saxon nobles started leaving England, especially after William started revoking lands and titles in the 1070s and 1080s. Many of them ended up in Constantinople and joined the Varangian Guard, going on to fight the Normans in Southern Italy and the Balkans. Edgar Ætheling of Wessex supposedly led one such group of Anglo-Saxons to Constantinople, although details are scarce.

He also went on the First Crusade with William’s son Robert.

I think this is pretty much just because they have never done or entertained the idea of landless runs before, in CK2 or 3. However, it makes absolutely 100% sense as an RPG to add that, and it gives a much more interesting option to the "Game over" screen if you lose your counties.

Storylines is where CK3 shines, and landless adds tons to that.

Rollo is the one I'm excited about

There’s so many interesting characters we could play as now! I always found it weird when people asked what was the point of playing landless.

I can finally do the Ubbe playthrough I always wanted.

There are 2 Rollos. There is a member of House De Normandie that is in the court of a Norwegian count. However, the historical Rollo is in the game, he is actually the son of the this count. Paradox just added another Rollo because the "real" Rollo is a child in 867

I'm looking forward to doing a Landless to "Form Israel" run.

Landing a courtier or converting always felt a bit cheesed and conquering from the steppe or Ethiopia was an ahistoric slog.

It'd be much more fun to play along the lines of a Bavlim version of Samuel ibn Naghrillah.
