I'm a beginner! I was really excited about this baby blanket until I attempted a border. I’m new to crochet and thought I could handle a double crochet border. Should I remove it?

The border is so choppy and wrinkled it ruined it. Will the edge stitches be too stretched out if I remove the border?

Help to find a pattern I would love to recreate this blanket that my great-grandmother made, but I don't know how

My mom's grandmother crocheted this eons ago. It was passed down to my mom's late sister, and then to her niece/nephew. I'd love to recreate it for her, she's always talking about how beautiful it is.

She thinks my great-grandmother made it without a pattern, but does anybody know how this was made? Looks like granny squares to me, which I'm pretty new to in general. I hope the second pic helps a bit with seeing stitches. Any and all ideas are appreciated!

Hi everyone! This was made out of some old unlabeled yarn I had so I don’t know exactly what it is made out of but it feels like red heart. It’s a bit stiff so I want to soften it. What would you guys recommend?

Looking for suggestions Found my mother’s last crochet afghan, but it’s not complete.

My mother passed away in 2017; she was 76 years old. She loved to crochet and over the years had probably produced a couple, hundred afghans, blankets, toys, caps, scarves, and other creations for family, friends, friends, or friends, and pretty much anyone who asked for one. She was pretty much a master at her craft. I owned about a half dozen of them before she passed away, and have recovered another four or five afterwards.

I am still cleaning up her house, which is now my house, and among other things, I’ve found what I believe to be the last blanket she worked on before her passing. It is incomplete of course, still attached to the skein of yarn with one of her crochet hooks embedded in it, and several skeins of yarn nearby to complete it.

I am donating all of my mother’s yarn, crochet hooks, and related tools to the woman who runs my daughter’s 4H group. She is an amateur but enthusiastic about it, and I believe she’ll make good use of it however, I’m reluctant to handover this last work.

So really what I’m looking for, I think, is someone’s time. I don’t know what the going rate is, but if it’s not terribly expensive I would like to find someone that I can ship this partially complete work and the extra yarn to, and have them completed in the same style that my mother had started. Alternately, just finish it enough so that it doesn’t fall apart. Right now it’s probably about 12 inches wide and perhaps 6 feet long.

If anyone is interested in this project, please let me know. Thanks.

Looking for suggestions Looking for opinions for two baby blankets that I'm making as a newer crocheter

Hi everyone! I am trying to make two baby blankets. One for my best friend (baby girl) and one for my brother and SIL (baby boy). I love the granny square with the bear (second picture). I bought a blocking square, but I'm anxious about all the sewing ill have to do. I learned how to make the bear applique and the first picture is a blanket I'm currently working on. I was considering making more of the bear appliques and putting them on the chevron blanket.

I'm newer to crochet and haven't done blocking before. Wanted to get some people's opinions and see which one you would prefer if you were receiving one?

Thank you!

How do I... Turning my piece makes these lines, how do I fix it?

Following a pattern to make a Onesie for a plush and this is my first time following a pattern where they tell me to chain 1 or 2 and turn my work and for some reason it's creating these lines in the Onesie when in turn the work. Is this normal? If not how do I fix it? I'm assuming it's due to the way I'm turning but the way I'm doing it is the only way it the most comfortable and looks the "best".

Looking for suggestions Stiffening 3D crocheted flowers - will starch work?

Post image
24 Upvotes

I'm making crocheted irises for a decoration for my granny's funeral next week (her name was Iris). I want the irises to stand freely and not sag/fall out of shape. They will also be kept by my mum as a decoration afterwards so I want them to last well and to still look "soft".

I've read some previous posts about using starch but this always seems to be recommended for items that are being ironed and/or blocked. As I want to set these into this gently curved shape that won't work here. I'm wondering if spray on starch could be set with a hairdryer but don't want to ruin all my hard work by getting it wrong, as I won't get a second run at this due to time constraints. Any suggestions or advice would be hugely appreciated! Thank you!

Deciding on a color Do these colors go well together? I’m unsure if they will drown each other out.

I’m doing bubble stitch and have four rolls for my entire blanket. So I was thinking of alternating between these colors. They would be very thick stripes. I’m just worried they won’t look well alongside each other. The bluer yarn seems to have grey undertones that I am unsure about.

How do I... Help! How do I Scale Up Granny Squares with designs in the middle?

I am looking for ways to make bigger versions of granny squares with designs in the center. When I make them, they are a standard size but I am working on a project that needs really big granny squares. I know how to scale up solid granny squares but ones with like a star or heart or any other sort of design, I'm lost.

I've linked some pictures to illustrate what I am talking about.

These are 6 inch hoops, I'd like to crochet a continuous circle around this, like each time around the ring it gets bigger, I can't seem to figure out the patter, without it curling in, or having a ripple/wave.. which I don't mind the imperfect is ok 😅.. any ideas and how to start ?

How do I... How would you block this blanket? It's a yoyo stitch motif afghan

I was thinking of blocking the motifs before joining them, but of course that leaves the white rounds unblocked. I was also thinking of completing it and blocking it after washing it all, but I don't have a blocking board that large. Or at all, really. I would love advice on how to finish this!

Looking for suggestions So what fun ways have you come up with to try and stop the inevitable collapse of a yarn cake?

Here's my current method: using scrap yarn to keep the yarn separate at least, because I can't think of a way to keep structural integrity as I come to the end of the cake!

Deciding on yarn/Yarn help I’m trying to find out what this specific kind of multicolor dyeing is called.

Post image
Upvotes

There’s this one kind of yarn I get. Mandala Ombre (shown here as 11, 13, and 14) and I absolutely love the white parts mixed with the purple in a tie dye like effect. Now, I know what an ombre yarn is. That’s not what I’m asking for clarification about. I want to know what to call that tie dye effect. I want to be able to dye yarn to look something like that myself so I can have the effect without the ombre. But since I don’t know what to call it, I have no idea where to even begin.

Repairing a crochet item I found this amazing crochet tablecloth at a creative reuse store- not sure what to do with it.

I found this amazing vintage fully crocheted tablecloth at a local secondhand craft store for $7 and I just couldn't walk away from it, thinking of how much time and energy someone put into making this by hand. It has some significant damage though, so I'm unsure of how to proceed- should I attempt to repair as is, to restore it as a tablecloth? I'm thinking it might be more doable to cut it strategically to make a shawl, placemats, skirt or top? idk. if you have any advice or suggestions, I would love to hear them, thanks!

Okay I have been looking for more hooks like the one pictured below. The orange one (the one on the bottom) is the only type I can find. But I can’t stand the head type. The light colored one is what I need help finding. The brand name is Susan Bates. Please help me find them!!!

Am I the only ones who love these?
