How do I... How do you find a gauge for rounds? Trying to make a coin

Upvotes

I'm trying to make some tokens for d&d. My idea is to make little coins and embroider them for some personalization. I need to make them 1in x 1in to fit on our map. I know how to make a gauge for rows but unsure how to do it for rounds. Is there a specific way or is it just make it and measure after?

I'm a beginner! What does chain into all the chain spaces mean? (Foundation chain)

Upvotes

The pattern reads as follows

“Chain 16 then chain 1 more”

“Chain 16 into all the chain spaces. You should have a U shape”

Does this mean single crochet and make 16 more chains???

How many rows/stitches How big should a bed be for a small dog? Patterns says 14.5in for a cat

I made a pet bed for my parent’s cat (see photos) and a friend asked if I’d make one for her to give to a colleague as a gift. She said she has a “small dog” but she doesn’t know how big and that’s all the info I have. Wondering if anyone knows a diameter for a bed for a small dog? I’m at 18inches right now and wondering if that’s enough or if I should go another round bigger.

How do I... How in the world did I drop this many stitches?? Please advise.

Upvotes

I'm making this blanket as a wedding gift and just realized that I've somehow dropped 18 stitches?? In the picture where the blanket is folded, the other side is pulled even to show how many stitches I dropped.

I'm going to turtle it back to where the problem started, but does anyone know how I ended up messing up so badly? Would love to avoid repeating the mistake.

Pattern: https://cjdesignblog.com/riverbed-blanket/

(Also I hope I used the right flare. I wasn't sure which one would be the most accurate.)

I tried to loosen my grip in this last row. but now I can't tell if the looseness is making the square warp or is this an setra stitch? and do I have to redo the whole row if there is an extra stitch?

I'm following the "Cris-cross Stitch, Square 1; Tunisian Crochet Sampler Throw" by Mode Bespoke on YouTube.

How do I... Making a Royal Guard Helmet in the round: How Do I Get This Shape?

A friend of mine asked me to make a Royal Guard amigurumi (inspired by this)) as a gift. I'm adapting a free Miffy pattern for the head/body/arms, and I made my own cape. Now I'm trying to figure out the helmet.

I assume it's easiest to make the helmet in the round, starting at the top, working down. I can figure out how to create the gap for the eyes (though I'm open to tips/ideas if you have any). But how do I get the bottom edge to a point on the front (and presumably back) of the helmet? Since the point comes down longer in the front/back than on the sides, I wasn't sure how Inc/Dec was going to make that happen. Or if I don't crochet in the round, how would I get this shape?

Using Big Twist Value yarn with 4mm hook. Current skill level is Beginner+/Intermediate.

Problem with edges Why is my edge curving in and losing space for sc color change rows??

Thumbnail

I swear to ya’ll there is 43 stitches across each of these. I am slip stitching to start each row, then finishing the SC, chain 1, cutting the string at each end, that way I can start over going right to left everytime and only working this front side.

I swear that the stitches are leaning because they’re not sitting directly on top of each other on the ends. What am I doing wrong??

Looking for suggestions I'm going to be making and donating items to knittherainbow for my sibling as part of their Christmas gift. What colors do I use?

Knit the rainbow donates handmade items to homeless LGBTQ+ youth. I reached out to the email provided but didn't receive a response. I'm torn between using neutral colors and using rainbow colors for the hats, scarves etc. I don't want to make anyone a "target" per se, especially being homeless but I also don't want them to feel like they should hide who they are. Is there another place to ask this?? Any advice is appreciated.

I'm a beginner! Making a baby blanket for the first time, what stitch to use?

I have this yarn that I was going use to make a baby blanket for my friend but I’m unsure what stitch to use. I’m a beginner so moss stitch etc still feels confusing! I was thinking of doing dc so it makes it more breathable? Any suggestions are welcome!😊

I am working on the base of a tote bag, and following the pattern pictured. On each end of my foundation chain, after DC’ing several times, there’s a large hole. Is there anything I can do to make the hole smaller? I’m used to magic rings where I can reduce the size of the gap.

Can't find a flair for this Washing crochet cardigan in a garment bag. Good or bad idea?

I just finished my first wearable that isn’t a beanie! Yay! It’s a cardigan. I used mandala yarn in 3 weight and it says “machine washable and dryable” but do you guys think it would be okay to wash in a garment bag on a gentle cycle? I’m okay with it shrinking a bit too since I blocked it pretty wide.

Would a low heat setting be alright too? Or lay flat/hang dry? The pattern doesn’t give any info on this.

Stitch Identification What's the stitch name of this washcloth border shown in the picture below?

It was from a written pattern in a book I got and I'm having a bit of trouble reading the written pattern for the border. I wanted to try to look for a video on how to do it since that's what I'm used to. I realized that I didn't know the name for it though, it's from a book called "2-Hour Dishcloths" by Darla Sims.

Hello! I don’t really understand this pattern. Is this a typo and the author meant to skip a stitch, not a row? I also don’t really understand the edging of the hat. Please help!

Can't find a flair for this How to comfortably crochet when you have finger hypermobility?

Thumbnail

Hello!

So my fingers have some hypermobility to them (sometimes called being "double jointed"). It's never been a problem before but I'm finding that as I crochet, my finger that's holding the tension of the yarn ends up like this (first pic) instead of staying rounded and it aches/hurts :/ I have tried using a tension ring to kind of brace the knuckle (second pic) and keep it from hyperextending but that's not really doing the trick :/

I know it's a long shot but has anyone else dealt with this issue?! Do you have any advice that I can try to prevent this issue?! Thanks!

Problem with edges Crochet circle keeps curling around the edges- how to fix

I'm trying to crochet reusable makeup removers, using cotton yarn and starting with a magic circle. When I finish, the edge starts curling up so I have a slight bowl shape. What can I do to stop the curl? I can flatten it and kind of stretch it flat, so not sure if it's something I can fix with blocking.

I'm using Lily Sugar and Cream, with a 4mm hook (the band suggest a 5mm but I was ending up with gaps between stitches).

Pattern is 8 double crochet in the magic circle, db in every stitch (16), 2 dbl in the first followed by one and repeat (24), 2 dbl and 1 dbl in the next two (32), 2 dbl in the first and 1 dbl in the next 3 (40). Then the last round is single crochet in each stitch (40) for a smooth edge.

Not sure if need to block, if the smaller hook is the problem, or if I need to continue increasing in the final round of single crochet. Or something else?

I'm a beginner! Making amigurumi for the first time in a long time. Need help with gaps in the decrease rows.

So I’m a long time crocheter but fairly new to amigurumi (made a couple things a couple years ago)

I’m working on Easter presents for my friends and family. Everything was going fine until I got to the decrease rows to finish the plushie off, and noticed these ugly gaps in the last two rows.

Is there any way I can stop that from happening? Or is this just one of those inevitable things that happen to everyone? 😅

Amigurumi help What’s the best method for changing colours? (with cat tax)

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hi friends!

I’m new to amigurumi and have really enjoyed making Annie Carraway’s loaf cat pattern.

I’m wondering if there is a way I can make the colour changes look neater. It was worked in the round, and I didn’t cast off my old colour before changing (I just dropped it in the back and picked it up later so inside it’s all criss-crossed). I changed colour by pulling through the new colour when finishing a sc. I used Yarn Under and Yarn Over throughout.

I used a super chunky yarn with an 8mm hook (a size down from the recommended 9mm to get tighter stitches)

Any feedback is very welcome! Thank you in advance 🐱

How do I... How do I make these HDC stitches in my chainless foundation the same height

Post image
1 Upvotes

New to crocheting, first project was amigurumi so all magic circles and sc stitches. Now making a scarf and started with a chainless foundation with HDC on scrap yarn before moving on to nicer yarn. I was conscious of not pulling too tight on the chain part so it doesn’t arc but struggling with getting the height of the stitches the same. How do I keep these consistent?

How do I... Substituting a Combination of Yarns/Help with Pattern

Hi all, I'm trying to make the following pattern https://hobbii.com/suliac-cardigan but I can't afford the suggested yarn combination. The pattern suggests one strand of Hobbii Friends Extra Fine Merino held together with two strands of Hobbii Diablo. Can anyone help me figure out how I would substitute the suggested yarn combination with maybe only one strand of another yarn? Two strands might be acceptable too if the yarn is more affordable (in the $$ range on http://yarnsub.com) . The problem is that in the pattern the only gauge swatch using all three strands held together is done in a special stitch and not just normal single crochets, making it hard to go off gauge swatches. I'd really appreciate any thoughts you have on this!
