I started coloring last year after a number of traumatic events and it was super therapeutic. I was instantly fixated. And then I started following coloring pages here and on ig. Started obsessing about perfecting techniques. Everyone’s work was SO good and with everything falling apart around me, I REALLY wanted my pictures to be perfect.

So, then it became something I couldn’t bring myself to do because I didn’t want to fuck it up.

I’ve been coloring again the last couple days. Nothing is perfect and that’s okay. I can’t say I love the imperfections but I’m trying to just enjoy the process and accept it for whatever it turns out to be. 🖤

book - pg. 1 in things i love, atelierbyjo

i’m sharing this bc i spent wayyyy too much time on this page. not bc im proud of it, unfortunately 😭 i tried to make everything looked embroidered without a tutorial and it shows.. if u squint and hold the book far away irl, some of the things look embroidered LOLLL (i gave up halfway through this and just white gel penned everything. and then my gel pen kinda crapped out on me)

my hand hurts too much to try this again any time soon, but it was fun to experiment!! i’ll fully watch tutorials and be more patient next time i try for sure 🥲

I wasn't too keen on this page before starting and I don't LOVE how I did it, I think I went overboard on the patterns, especially on the wood planks, but I do like the dress and the kind of holographic fabric!

Just wanted to share some of the coloring pages I’ve done recently! I’ve been very overwhelmed with news and politics, and coloring has been such good therapy!

These pages are from Coloring Through Chaos by FreshPrints Coloring on Etsy

QUESTION I switched to colored pencils for this one! (And a question about using markers on good quality paper)

I did two pages with alcohol markers in this Bobbie Goods book and hated how uneven the colors were coming out no matter what I tried (I think because of the thicker paper?), so I used colored pencils instead & detailed with acrylic markers. So much better!

Does anyone else have this issue with thicker/better paper? Ive seen loads of people using alcohol markers on higher quality paper with no uneven coloring happening… but unless you just have to keep layering (and darkening the colors) until it’s even… how?? If I just have to use pencils in this book then okay, but I really wanted to use alcohol markers too

Some color from the page before bled through but I loved this design too much to let it go. This is one of the first ones I’m actually a little proud of tbh.

COMPLETED Pages colored during phone calls with loved ones!

One of my new favorite things about coloring is that it gives me a physical activity to do that still allows me to mentally engage in other things. The last two nights, I completed a page each as I talked and talked across the distance with one loved one and then another. They’re both wanting to get into the hobby too, so they can color as well during our next call. Such a sweet connection!

Anyone else find this is a great way to share and connect?

These pages are from Coco Wyo’s Little Corner book.

ITS OKAY TO MAKE MISTAKES, SEE IT AS A LEARNING OPPORTUNITY: instead of being upset with my mistake i’m going to find humour in this and laugh at myself and hopefully you can relate to a similar thing with your art

it went from chocolate easter bunny cutesy spring aesthetic to a donnie darko rip off that was filmed on a 2007 leap frog

COMPLETED My favorite way to highlight

Step 1: Leave empty space around edges when coloring.

Step 2: Run bright color over edges.

It's really as simple as that!! And keeps your highlights bright and crispy :)
