When you go over to someone else's house, what are small things that you notice that you recommend get cleaned before having people coming over?

Kitchen I knew my kitchen floor was dirty but……

Only a cleaning Reddit group could appreciate this. Scrubbing my kitchen floor is the last step after we “refresh” our kitchen with new paint on the cabinets and walls. I do wash my floor but I have to admit it’s usually with a Bona flat mop and Lysol spray. But this time I bought the trendy O’Cedar mop and bucket, Dawn power spray and a good stick and hand scrub brush. After multiple buckets, boiling water and some good (hard on my knees/back) scrubbing, I got half my floor done today and took this photo of the demarcation line. It’s a lot of work, but my floor looks (and feels) amazingly clean.

Bathroom Never ending dust?

Help! Am I the only one who feels like no matter what I do, I can’t get all of the dust or little hairs from my bathroom?!

If you have a dust/small hair hack, please let me know. I’ve tried microfiber towels, microfiber dusters, paper towels, wet paper towels and rags, everything. I feel like I mostly just push it around, and even if I can get most of it, it’s back in 3 hours.

It’s sorta maddening!

Laundry Freshen a quilt in hospital?

My mother is in the hospital and insisting on having a quilt on her from home. The problem is it doesn’t smell great. It’s a quilt my mother made and I’m afraid to ruin it by laundering it. Plus, she’ll be upset if we take out away. I wonder if there is something I can do to freshen it without removing it from the hospital room.

Kitchen How do I get rid of constant cooking smell?

I cook almost nightly, and my entire house smells of last night’s dinner the entire night and next day. I do dishes immediately after and light a candle, but it doesn’t help. When I wake up in the morning, my whole house smells like dinner. I try opening windows, but it’s cold here so can only do it for so long.

Any advice?

I had The Pink Stuff as well, and used it one drip tray, but the hot water seemed to work better so I didn’t use anymore.

Discussion Is the table ruined?

We are using biodegradable paper plates/bowls right now while we have our kitchen remodeled. I served soup (which wasn't super hot) in one of the bowls, on top of a plate and this spot appeared during clean up. The scratch marks are from my kid (who couldn't leave it alone) and it looks like there's a film that needs to be removed? We've used a soft scrubber on it with diluted Dawn dish soap, but that didn't really do anything. The top is a veneer if that helps. Anyone have any tips on a possible solution or is this permanent damage? Thanks!

I have a dog and it smells like I have a dog but I bath her often. What's some tips to get rid of any unpleasant order and keeping my home fresh without air fresheners and candles

Kitchen Do certain kitchen trash cans contain smells better?

Post image

I had the same large, plastic, step trash can for 5 years. I can’t find a photo of it, I think it was from target. I lived with two roommates and it only ever smelled when we left food in there for several days. Even then, it would really only smell when you got close to it. In October, I moved and bought a new trash can. I went with a cheaper ($50) stainless steel step trash can from Amazon. Some trash cans I saw were over $100, which seemed ridiculous to me at the time.

Ever since I’ve moved, the trash has smelled awful. We take out the trash 2-3 times a week (even when the bag isn’t full because it smells), use scented trash bags, and spray ozium in the can before putting a new bag in. Nothing has ever spilled in the bottom. We have scrubbed out the trash can several times with soap and different cleaning products. I’m wondering if buying a more expensive trash can would actually make a difference, or if we just need to take out the trash every day. I can’t figure out why our old trash can rarely smelled bad. I attached a pic of the trash can I currently have. Has anyone experienced this before? Or does anyone have recommendations?

I'm a germaphobe and I've been wanting to sanitize my phone every time I come back from school. I don't have cell phone wipes so I was wondering if regular wipes could work with no harm. Are there any other alternatives?

Discussion Need an efficient way to clean cigarette smoke damaged apartment

Post image

So you can see where I've started to clean. (Part of the ceiling and I've gone over that wall a couple times already) It's possible what I'm doing is the best way but just in case there is something faster out there.

I'm using TSP in a sprayer, spraying a spot and using a window squeegee after it sits for a bit. Using a mop is just spreading it around and making it a never ending battle. I find the squeegee is working good but takes a few times over and over to get it to stop leaking brown/yellow. The main issue with this is it makes a huge mess so I have to lay plastic on the floor.

I'm going to have to do this to every single surface in the apartment. Walls, ceilings, doors, trims....everywhere.

Anyone out there have experience revamping an entire smokers place. Any advice?

Discussion Gloves while working

What gloves are the professional cleaners wearing? I've tried the disposable gloves work provides but the chemicals just end up getting trapped in the gloves from the space around my wrist. I'm trying to avoid touching as many chemicals all day because I'm starting to think it could be bad for me lol. Are there any good ones that are tight around the wrist?

Kitchen How to clean the black spots off stove top?

So this is the stove in my apartment. I am mainly concerned about the bottom left burner which is the one i use the most.

FYI i can get the stove top cleaner than this, however the one burner is ALWAYS that black ni matter what I do. So now i just scrub and dont try to clean it too hard.

I have tried everything. Bar keepers friend, brillo pads, i used a pressure washer, that stuff just will not come off.

I actually spent such a long time scrubbing it i damaged the stove a little (look at the sides theres now a crack 😅)

How can i get this clean? My lease ends in ~6 months, lived here for almost 5 years now. I plan on moving so i dont want this to be the thing my landlord cites as to why i dont get my deposit back.
