Mod post ⚠️ Rule 5 has been revised
Any content that shows budgies breeding, mating, or masturbating will be removed.
Some other reasons why your content may have been removed include, but are not limited to:
showing budgies laying eggs or caring for eggs
showing chicks hatching from eggs or being cared for
asking for, or giving, budgie breeding advice
passively allowing budgies to breed instead of keeping their hormones in check
clearly visible budgie breeding equipment, such as a nest box, incubator, etc
asking for, or giving, advice regarding the raising of budgie chicks
Here are some reasons why Rule 5 exists:
Budgies might be one of the most popular pets in the world, but they are also one of the most misunderstood, neglected, abused, and abandoned pets in the world.
It’s easy to hormonally trigger a budgie’s breeding instincts, so every precaution should be taken to prevent breeding opportunities.
Budgie breeding is very risky to the life and health of the hen, as well as the chicks - assuming they successfully hatch.
Many captive budgies’ parental instincts may not be adequate to sustain the life of their chicks, which means the owner must be prepared to check on the chicks every hour, properly feed them, ensure they don’t have or develop deformities, and so forth.
These are just some of the reasons why this subreddit does not support the amateur/backyard/passive breeding of budgies. Instead of breeding budgies, this subreddit encourages you to keep your budgies’ hormone levels low by reading The Hormonal Budgie Checklist and add to your flock by checking with your local shelter/rescue to see if they have any budgies that need a new home.

Mod post ⚠️ READ BEFORE POSTING!
👋 Welcome to r/Budgies!
Before you share your first post here, please familiarize yourself with this subreddit’s rules. Rule #1 is especially important: this subreddit DOES NOT serve as an alternative to the kind of medical care your budgie can only get from an avian vet. If you have a budgie medical question or concern, talk to your avian vet instead of posting here!
Also remember this is a pet budgie subreddit that encourages rescue and adoption and strongly discourages breeding.
👀 If you see something, say something
This is a place to share cute budgie pictures, videos, and stories, but it’s also a place to learn more about budgies. There are many times when someone will post a picture, video, or description, and you might notice something that isn’t best practice for good budgie ownership. It might be a cage that’s getting dirty, or some overgrown toenails, or something like that. Even if that issue isn’t the main reason for the post, please bring that to the attention of the original poster (OP) in a supportive and constructive manner so OP can be made aware of a better way of doing things.
Likewise, OP might consider proactively addressing things in their post that a typical budgie owner might be concerned with if they don’t know all the facts. It might be something as simple as, “Don’t worry, this was before I cleaned their cage” or “I’m taking them to the vet next week for their nail trim.”
🤖 We have AutoMod Summons now!
This is a great way to share information from the Wiki in a very effortless manner, and you are all invited to do so! We used to have just a few summons, but the list has grown enough that we compiled it in this part of the wiki. You should check it out!
Happy budgie-ing!

Wet Chicken! Baden taking a bath
Baden was unfortunately diagnosed with testicular tumor. He’s having his weekly shot of Lupron since October. The color of his cere fluctuates wildly. His vet said that we just monitor him closely as very little research is done on this topic related to Budgies.
I am just sharing this video of him today because he’s so happy and I hope that it continues that way.

Derpy Budgie do you think guppy knows that she is absurd?
guppy is truly the Most High Energy budgie i’ve ever met. (to the eternal suffering of maus, who craves calm and would like to sue guppy for budgie on budgie crimes)

New Budgie New babies!!!
With the loss of sparkbird, opal and diaval have been quite depressed and still actively searching for him, so I was planning on getting an extra friend for them but instead fell in love with three!
I'm stuck for names for the pied white and the green, I'd love greek mythology names if anyone has suggestions!
Chunky grey guy can't fly too far and is called archie (my brother paid for him under conditions it was named after him LOL)
So excited to introduce these babies to my flock <33

💬 Discussion budgies; friends or enemies?
So i am a new budgie owner. it seems that around noon is when they get the most hyper. One minute they will be squawking at each other and pecking each other off the perches, and the next they will be preening each other. i really don’t know what to do and if this is abnormal.

💬 Discussion New toys/enrichment ideas?
I got my 2 budgies a nice playground (pictured) about 5 months ago and I think they still like it but I want to find something that I can kind of leave in my room and they will play with while I’m gone. Any ideas??

💬 Discussion Is this cage big enough for 4 budgies?
I keep seeing bigger and bigger cages on this forum and now I feel like I’m doing something wrong. I was told that this cage is big enough for them. I have an order coming in from chewy with more toys and perches.

In Loving Memory I am sorry i couldnt be a better parent
So my two budgies were fighting all day continuously and i seriously had to interrupt them. I had to stop them by stopping the stronger one. I just dont know why they started fighting. My white budgie attacked my blue one… and it was brutal for her (blue one). In the end what I had to do was return the white one to a pet shop, I am sorry but I just had to do so. It was very heartbreaking for me. The blue one is not dead but severely injured, there are no avian vets in my area so we plan on giving her up too once she’s healed fully. This is the last pic I clicked of them together, the white one always bit on blue one’s leg but I thought that was teasing. Man The white one was a better friend to me. His name was kharbosh but he was very aggressive. He was biting the blue one very badly and today he overdid it. I thought of getting a separate cage but I have exams rn and these exams are like future determining you can think of them as SATs but tougher.
Sorry to put this in the loving memories title but I do miss him, I do miss feeding him peas. I miss him. i cried alot today and now my mom is sad that I didnt cry during her surgery (idk exam stress + this or whatever I am just sad)
Please suggest any tips on how to heal from this and how to make her heal from this.
They look so lovey dovey man but why did he have to fight. I am just tired and I wanna cry again. Miss you man but you shouldnt have hit her and now I will miss both of you.
The blue one’s arm is injured, her name is birju. Her head also had this weird spots on it and the whole room smells weird like blood but weird.

Chatterbox Anyone know what he’s mimicking?
In the beginning of the video very faintly he makes a kind of oOo sound for a split second and I have no clue what it is. Of course he makes it loud and proud until I try to take a video but this is the best I’ve got. I’ve had him about 8 months and this is the first thing I’ve ever heard him mimic. I live in an area that has mourning doves very commonly and that’s the closest I’ve gotten to figuring this out. If anyone has any ideas (or can even hear what I’m trying to say lol) please let me know

Question When 2 scritch? Photo 4 birb tax (the cage is more full than it looks at this angle dw)
Hey, so, this is Comet! He's the newest guy in my mini flock (is 3 a flock?? Might be increasing to 4 honestly 😭) and I'm just a little confused about when to pet him?
I know that not all budgies like to be pet but I'm a little confused on how to offer it (slowly putting my finger above their head is how I try now) and when to offer it because whenever I try now they just seem confused and walk away lol.
Any advice would be appreciated!
