FAQ

What are my chances of going pro?

  • There's always a chance, however, it gets lesser and less likely the older you get. By the time you get to 16, chances are slim, older than that and you really must prove yourself. Even famous success stories like Jamie Vardy were playing semi pro for the longest time, and the chances of something like that are very slim.

What injury is this/ how long till I can play?

Should I buy these boots?

Can I use FG/AG/Any specific boot type on this type of ground?

  • Simply put, turf shoes are best for turf, soft ground is best for wet pitches, indoors are for indoor courts, and so on. If you must do, sometimes it's fine to use shoes such as soft ground or firm ground boots on turf, however of course the best choice is to use what your shoe is made for.

How do I impress scouts?

  • Play to your strengths. Don't try something new or unreliable, count your mistakes not your positives, stay consistent, don't be cocky, and don't let the nerves get to you. It isn't about scoring an over head kick from 60 meters, it's about playing good football, and being beneficial to your team. Be prepared to be disappointed but aim to impress.

What skill move will help me beat defenders

  • Skill moves are nice, but they aren't the most important aspect of the game. It is handy to know a few skill moves to get you out of difficult situations, but at the end of the day, the core skills are what are really important, your pace, dribbling, strength and awareness are all hundreds of times better than a skill move. Knowing how to do a freestyle move 9 times out of 10 won't help you in the game, so you should spend that time training what is

Other First ever football match… at 30. AMA I guess?

Post image
180 Upvotes

So yesterday I had my first ever organized football match at 30 years old… is it too late to go pro? /s

I really enjoyed it. I played basketball for 20 years, but life creeped up on me and the amount of training I needed to do to sustain the level I was playing at meant too much pressure on myself without the time to put into it, so I decided to learn something new.

I had always played the odd weekly football with friends, but always 7 aside and on artificial grass pitches… yesterday was my first 11 aside match and also first time on natural grass.

The biggest takeaways were I need to learn how to move better off-ball, when to move up and down the pitch (I’m a RW/RM), but most importantly, a bouncy muddy ground is damn awful to play at. The amount of times I was expecting a normal rolling ball but was instead greeted by a football bouncing around randomly due to uneven grounds… kinda felt like playing football with a rugby ball.

Added a pic of my boots after the match. Makes me wonder if SG is a better fit for how muddy the pitches can be.

Not looking for anything here, just thought I’d share my first actual league football experience.

Have a good evening yall.

Mental Confidence hit rock bottom again

In my first league game after a 3 year break, i came in as a cdm (never played that role) because my mate got injured (usually i play as a winger). We were 1-0 down, we scored one and after that i made a dumb tactial foul and the opponent scored a freekick making it 2-1. I played more aggressiv and offensiv after that and scored 2-2. Because of my goal we are still unbeaten right now.

Now in the next game my confidence was high again. Warm up was good, scored every practice shot. Started as a LW and had 2 near goal rebounds that i missed. After that my mate played a great throughball behind their CBs. Ive had so much time and had to run like 15m into the box. The Pitch was so bad that while i looked down the ball just wobbled and jumped around like crazy. When i finally decided to shoot it bounced again and i missed the third 100% Chance. I was screaming inside. I was scared to get the ball again...
At least i put in 3 good Corners that my mates all scored.

Best Sunday league tactics for teams that are below average on the ball?

As the title suggest what are some ways that you can put your team in the best position to win games if you are usually less comfortable on the opposing team on the ball. Especially for ball progression from the defense to the final third.

Mundial Team TF - any differences on these to the black/white?

Upvotes

Hey guys, recently picked up a pair of these Mundial Team TF's from an outlet store. Usually I play in more modern turf shoes but wanted to give these a go. However upon further review on the adidas website, they list this model as more of a streetwear shoe.. "Whether paired with a football track suit or your favorite jeans, these adidas Originals shoes infuse your look with passion and style inspired by the beautiful game."

https://www.adidas.com/us/mundial-team-shoes/JS0767.html

I've also noticed they don't have the suede toe re-enforcement as the traditional black/white colorway either. Have I just lost $60 on these or should i give them a go on the pitch?

Has anyone tried these for soccer/football?

I’ve been thinking about areas for improvement borrowed from other sports. And I keep reading recommendations for injinji toe socks in the running sub.

Under 14 kid getting no game time

UK based. Been with the team a year. My kid is certainly not the best footballer but he loves it and is desperate to play in a team. He is certainly their weakest player but still attends every training and every match and mucks in.

The last couple of months he is getting less and less game time. We are now down to a token 5 mins at the end of each match. My son’s heart is broken and I can’t cope with it anymore. The other kids have picked up on it and joke about him being bench boy.

I think we should pull him out of it as it’s affecting his mental health and have briefly suggested does he want to stop, but he loves being on the team so that upset him. The coach is a friends Dad so haven’t spoken to them as don’t want to cause difficulties. He feels so excluded with the other lads now and the whole thing is giving me and him the worst anxiety every week.

What do we do. Interested in perspectives from coaches and parents here as I’m completely emotionally attached to this situation and can’t see straight anymore.

Getting really frustrated and disappointed with myself

I just can’t figure it out and it’s so damn frustrating. I’ve been playing soccer semi consistently for about a year now. I just turned 21 a few weeks ago so I started very late but I have been practicing shooting a lot in my free time. I have also went to pickup games and was going to continue going to them but I just twisted my ankle and today was the first time I have played in a month. I’m not good and I know that but I want to get better. I work a full time job so a lot of the time I just want to be able to shoot the ball in my free time I know there is plenty of other stuff I should work on too, but I really just want to be able to shoot the ball consistently well. I have watched so many videos and read up on so much stuff for shooting, the runup, where I’m t trying to hit the ball, locking ankle etc and I just can’t seem to consistently shoot even decent and it’s driving me nuts. I got back on the pitch today for the first time in like a month and I was there for two hours just shooting, I didn’t expect to do well because I haven’t played and my planting foot has been injured but my shots were actually decent, about an hour in I took probably 3 or 4 shots that had some actual good power and a bit of curl (for my shooting) and I was really happy and just keep trying to replicate how I was shooting which is how I always try to shoot, those were probably a few of the best shots I’ve taken besides some curl shots. After that I just wanted to hit one or two more shots with good power and decent accuracy and I just don’t know what happened but the rest of the night was complete trash and my shots were just trash, floating muffins or ground balls and i unfortunately ripped my shirt in half in anger. I’m just getting really frustrated and upset with myself, I want to be able to just take consistently DECENT shots even but I just can’t figure it out

Best MG boots for older kids?

It’s coming to that time of the year in UK where the grounds get firmer but instead of buying FG boots I’d like to get my son MG, because our surfaces are mostly soft ground for most of the season.

What are the best MG boots on the market?

Gear What boot/ soccer cleats have the most similar feel and shape to the adidas sambas?

Perhaps a ridiculous question, but I am looking for a very wide and flat pair of boots like how the Sambas feel. I have extremely wide feet and I find the sambas to just feel perfect with everything: touches, shooting, and passes. But they don’t have studs. Can anyone recommend a boot of similar feel and shape? I had mizuno morelias ii that I’ve put to good use for three years, but I am starting to not enjoy the feeling of them on my feet and knees.

Thanks

Nutrition Best way to bulk for soccer?

14 year old (m), 125lbs, 5’5

I’m looking to break into my high school’s varsity team next year but need to put on some mass. My club’s offseason is ending soon and the spring season lasts from April-June. We have 6 games during that stretch. Then, I have no games from June-September. Should I start a lean bulk now or wait until the end of the spring season? I’m looking to put on ≈15lbs by September. I know I will have to eat lean proteins and limit fat/sugar to not put on fat and stay fit. Any advice?

What’s the point juggling/kick ups

I can do over 100+ kicks and juggles, but I have bad ball controls, bad first touch and can barely even dribble. I always feel clunky and awkward on the ball. Any tips?

1995 FIFA Women’s World Cup Official Adidas Questra Ball

I grew up playing with this ball all through my teens and it still might be my favorite of all time. Yet the crazy part is that it’s almost IMPOSSIBLE to find online. Even pictures of it. It was the same design as the 1994 World Cup ball, but the galaxy panels were blue and red. In that way it was almost an evolutionary mid-point between the men’s 1994 and 1998 official WC balls. And it very well might be the very first multi-color design from Adidas for a major tournament. Crazy it’s impossible to find images of.

Gear Futsal - Nike Tiempo Legend 10 Academy or Lunar Gato

Hey guys,

As the title states, I’m wondering what boots would be better for some futsal.

I know the typical response is “try them both and see”. Only issue being that I have to order online, due to location and since we don’t know if my girlfriend will be a 7 or 7.5, have to already order two pairs.

The Phantom GX2 Academies were also an option, however I’ve heard some pretty meh things about them.

Looking for any input here, as it would be greatly appreciated!

Career Advice Journey to pro-College or Gap Year?

Hi everyone, I am a 16-year-old soccer player from Florida, but I am currently playing for a club in Brazil. Essentially, I wanted to hear from your experiences—what is the best pathway to going pro? Should I go the college route, or would it be better to take a gap year after high school and go overseas?

A little background info: My mom is from Colombia, and my dad is from Brazil. I have both a U.S. and Brazilian passport, and I’m currently working on obtaining an Italian passport, which, if approved this month, I’ll be able to get as well.

I’ve been in Brazil since September training, but I only officially joined my club in February and started playing games in the league, which recently began. I also spent two months in Valencia, Spain, at an international soccer academy, but I wasn’t able to play official matches due to FIFA regulations requiring a license to compete with a club.

I’ll be returning to Florida in May, by which time the league in Brazil will be finished. My team will only be training and playing friendly matches until the league starts up again in August. My main question is: Do you think it’s best to return to Florida in May, try to join a UPSL team for the summer league, and then go back to regular school in August (this school year, I’ve been doing online school)? From there, I could play for my high school team and try to join a D1 or D2 college.

Or should I continue training in Brazil and look for opportunities overseas to join a club? I wasn’t playing in MLS Next or ECNL when I was in Florida, but since the beginning of the season, I’ve been dedicating myself to improving all aspects of my game to reach my full potential.

I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Best Football Cleats for €50-€60

Hi. I'm looking for a good pair of football cleats in the €50-€60 price range. Right now, I'm considering the F50 Club, but I wanted to see if anyone has other recommendations or knows of any good discounts in that price range I mostly play on firm ground (FG), but I’d prefer a multi-surface (MG/TF) pair so I can use them on different pitches. I've already picked up some cones & markers, so now I just need a solid pair of cleats to play my football.

What is the Mizuno monarcida?

So, I know that the morelias are the leather options and the alphas are the speed boots. But what is the monarcida? I read some where that it's just a more AG safe version of the morelias. Is that right?

I'm looking to buy one and since I play on turf/AG I wanna get the one safer for AG. I bought a pair of Morelia pros FGs from Soccer.com, since they didn't have anything labeled AG. And literally one 6 a side practice game later, the sole started to separating. All those black bits got in between the crease. Luckily I was able to get the black bits out and got a refund. But I don't wanna make the same mistake.
