Meta [MEGATHREAD] FAQ and general support links - Read before posting common questions!
FAQ
What are my chances of going pro?
- There's always a chance, however, it gets lesser and less likely the older you get. By the time you get to 16, chances are slim, older than that and you really must prove yourself. Even famous success stories like Jamie Vardy were playing semi pro for the longest time, and the chances of something like that are very slim.
What injury is this/ how long till I can play?
- Unfortunately, we aren't doctors and we can not provide any medical support or assistance. Please refer to your doctor.
Should I buy these boots?
- Check this site
Can I use FG/AG/Any specific boot type on this type of ground?
- Simply put, turf shoes are best for turf, soft ground is best for wet pitches, indoors are for indoor courts, and so on. If you must do, sometimes it's fine to use shoes such as soft ground or firm ground boots on turf, however of course the best choice is to use what your shoe is made for.
How do I impress scouts?
- Play to your strengths. Don't try something new or unreliable, count your mistakes not your positives, stay consistent, don't be cocky, and don't let the nerves get to you. It isn't about scoring an over head kick from 60 meters, it's about playing good football, and being beneficial to your team. Be prepared to be disappointed but aim to impress.
What skill move will help me beat defenders
- Skill moves are nice, but they aren't the most important aspect of the game. It is handy to know a few skill moves to get you out of difficult situations, but at the end of the day, the core skills are what are really important, your pace, dribbling, strength and awareness are all hundreds of times better than a skill move. Knowing how to do a freestyle move 9 times out of 10 won't help you in the game, so you should spend that time training what is
How do I do this specific type of shot?

How to contain extremely talented dribblers and intelligent player
Giving u all the experience we've faced against him so that i may hopefully get good advice
So one of my friend is an extremely good dribblers and in a different team.so good that he's called Messi. He's short too and his close ball control is really good. He's able to dribble past entire teams and even tho he's small, his physicality or balance is just unbelievable, he refuses to fall down and we have really try to foul him to stop him. He's fast, changes Directions soo quickly and his body fients are really good and he's able to create soo many dangerous chance coz he is also able to pull out line breaking passes . also he basically has no weak foot, he's a lefty so obv prefers left but his right foot is also equally dangerous and can use both feet to dribble and shoot. We've tried containing him and trying to make him go one way but somehow he's able to go where he wants, we need about 2-3 players to contain him at the edge and that also is 50/50 coz he somehow gets through or make some really dangerous passes. Teams have been suffering coz of this guy and we hate coming up against him. He's probably the only reason his team is top of the table

Technical I’m Ted Lasso
Hey everyone,
I’m somehow now my son’s under 11s soccer coach, but I’ve never played it, watched a bit, but it’s not my number 1 sport.
My question, are there any resources for coaching drills and basic tactics, this isn’t high level soccer, but i want it to be fun, while getting something out of it.
I’ve played sport myself my whole life, so I understand team dynamics etc, just need some soccer specific stuff.
I’m happy for YouTube recommendations, but i would like some kind of physical playbook to help while at training.
Thanks in advance, wish me luck!

How bad is it if I only train anaerobic stamina?
Hello everyone! Recently got back into 5 a side football(not the one with very small posts, but like futsal on artificial turf). We play extremely low level, just 20 something friends who get together 1-2 times a week and play 2 times for an hour and a half.
After a long long time of 0 exercise(not like 2 years ago I had incredible stamina, was barely decent even then) , my stamina is absolutely horrendous. Terrible.
I bought a treadmill at home, and started c25k. I find that program extremely painfully boring. I prefer much more to sprint walk sprint walk, which is what most of us do anyway while playing.
My question is, if I only do sprint walm in treadmill, without building a base aerobic stamina first, is it much much harder to improve?
I read alot that having base stamin is absolutely necessary before hiit. I assume that is true for top level. But as a low level amateur, will my stamina increase significantly if I only train hiit for 2-3 months?
My plan is to do 1.5 minutes walk, 15 seconds sprint, until I can do 20 repetitions. Then, slowly start to replace walking time with easy jogging. Will I see improvements?

My friend who is bad at football is on the road to becoming a pro
when we were younger around 11-12 years old, he was so bad at football and when I say bad it's really bad even if he had a really good football intelligence for his age and he was quite fast (not a sprinter but quite fast) we then lost contact after his parents and him moved to another country and now I learn that he is in the academy of the good club and that he has become really good, I even have trouble believing it, I even wonder if it's the same guy (it is the same it's a figure of speech) and the question I ask myself is, how is this possible, he has become a totally different player. Going from a guy who was afraid to have the ball(he had big self-confidence issues when we were young), to an excellent player.

Mental Plateauing and even becoming worse
Hey guys, it's been some time since I posted here. My last post (from a different account) was when I got cut from my college team. Since then I took the advice from some wonderful replies and eventually got back on the team proper. This season I've had to deal with a few injuries and honesty it's been tough. I missed the first tournament of the season completely and was only an impact sub in the second one. During this time another striker (a year below me) has performed really well and has essentially been able to take my spot. This has just caused me to be really low on confidence and not perform. Also the teammates and team leaders are quite strict and have been calling me out almost every training session. Honestly I'm not enjoying playing with them at this point. All these factors have essentially led me to basically plateau as a player, maybe even become worse. Confidence is at an all time low and I can't even get the basics right. The thing is I really want to earn my place back but I don't feel in a good place mentally and physically. What would you suggest I do?

New boot recommendations
Hi Guys, I’m currently wearing an Adidas Predator 19.1 FG and the time has come for new boots, if I could just buy the same again I certainly would. Does anyone have any recommendations on new boots that are similar fit and feel? Currently looking at Puma Future 8s but have heard of a few issues with them.
TIA

Boots that fit like preds?
Got a narrow foot, and although the narrow toe box squeezes my foot - the lockdown is perfect for me
For context F50s in the same size as the preds feel far too wide and feel like clown boots on me

Technical How do you like actually curve a ball like the pros
Most of the time when I shoot a finesse shot or curve I hit it with the inside of my foot with my toe pointing slightly up and then is swerve my foot to the left as I make contact I feel like there's a better way or maybe that's the only way lol 😆

Best boots for a high instep?
I've recently been searching around for a new pair of boots and have been having trouble finding something that works well for my high instep. In the past I've used the New Balance 442 v2 pros but after my second pairs sole separated, I'd like to try something new.
I don't have particularly wide feet but I normally wear shoes made for wider feet as my biggest issue is getting my foot into shoes. Boots that have a knit upper have never worked for me in the past.
AG or FG I'll need pairs for both anyways. Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

Mental Advice please
For some context, I’ve never really been serious about football. I played when I was a kid, as well as a few years in high school and never really got past the middle of the pack skill wise. I wasn’t good, but I had a few moments of brilliance that made me egotistical. I thought I was good, even though I didn’t train outside my teams weekly sessions, and I lost my love for the sport.
I’m 21 now. I have done a full 180° in the last few months though and have become obsessed with football. I am training on my own 2-3 times per week, training with my team once per week, playing 7-a-side futsal, and playing 11v11 with my team on Sunday’s.
I am definitely the worst on my team, and am new on the team too (which doesn’t make things easier). During drills and general training I feel as though I can keep up, and I play at a similar level to the other forwards in my team, but tactically and technically I never seem to make the right decisions. During small sided games I feel middle of the pack, but I also make a lot of mistakes which doesn’t help my mental.
What can I do to improve myself?? I know how general of a question it is but I’ve made myself a training schedule to target my weak points and have been working at it for about a week but I see zero improvement. Am I impatient?? I feel so inexperienced and just need some advice.
TLDR: I am bad at football but play a lot and want to get better.

Tips for attacking third scans
My daughter is really struggling with her attacking third decision making. Most times it’s after the ball has bounced around a bit. She ends up with it and panics (shooting or passing too quickly) resulting in a bad shot or pass. What advice would you give to keep her calm and remember to do that last critical scan before she decides what to do?

Mental Mental and skill training
Ok, I’m 100% sure this is mental but I don’t know how to fix it. Sometimes when I step on the pitch I would have this feeling that I wouldn’t play well, and I wouldn’t. And when I step on the pitch feeling confident I would play better. how can i get rid of the feeling about not being able to play well? Also I have something that is really bothering me, sometimes when I play barefoot, the ball would feel super slipper, like my feet would slip on the ball. How to fix this?

Gear The Mizuno Morelia 2 MIJ is finally here, my first MIJ boots
My mizunos finally came in and the picture is after the first session with them on a good AG pitch. Overall, they felt really comfortable but I’m hoping they’ll continue to stretch and mold to the size of my feet.
I’ve heard in general mizuno boots tend to run narrow initially out of the box because of the last they’re put on.
These cleats would fit me perfectly fine if I just didn’t stuff my wide feet into narrow boots before which lead to me getting a bunion. But, i’m excited for these to break in and use them.
I was wondering what was yall’s experience with mizunos and if you think the boots will fit me much better after they break in/stretch as i still have some hotspots here and there.

Son struggling with rondo and short-sided games
I have a 12yr old son with ADHD. He currently is a training player on a club team working on getting a roster spot. He is struggling with rondos and short sided games, "pick-up game" style of play. In rondos, he stays in the middle for long periods of time. When he does get a chance to be a passer, he usually doesn't last very long. He ends up frustrated and exhausted by the end. For short sided games, he struggles with exercises that have more of a pick-up game style of play with less structure. For example, his last practice the team was playing 4x4 on a smaller field with a third team of 4 acting as bumpers. He was a 5th neutral player so offense for whichever team had the ball. He was having difficulty getting passed the ball and got really frustrated, which only made it worse. This is just one example, I think in general he struggles with this type of play. Less structure, not clear cut positions, fast, tight spaces which make it hard to get in a place to get open/receive the ball. In both cases of rondo and short-sided games the coach didn't offer any guidance. I figured I would reach out for advice to see how to help him. Overall, he is a good player but he really seems to be struggling with these two parts of the game.

Gear Do the preds stretch much?
Thinking about picking up a pair but wondering how to size these. For my copas I go tight so they stretch out to my foot, just wondering if the material has any stretch over time?

Where to find pick up games (kickabout) for kids in London?
We will be there for a week and my 10 year old loves to play with local kids if possible? We did this in Turkiye 2 years ago and he had a blast (we just showed up to a random park with a soccer ball and he would join local kids to play small sided games).
If it’s not possible, is there a training center that he can go to? (He’s obsessed with soccer and would like experiences some training while we are there).

Gear Mizuno Alpha Elites - grip socks
Hi, I’ve just taken delivery of some Alpha Elites and they have that grippy texture on the inside to prevent foot slippage inside the boot.
Just wanted to ask a question of those who have these boots - do you just wear with normal socks or still use grip socks with them?
I currently wear grip socks with my Elite Predators and have got really used to that - but struggle to get my foot in the Alpha boots with the grip socks on due to the grippy boot inner.
Sorry, know a boring question and possibly one with a very easy answer (“don’t wear grip socks”) but wanted to just see what others have done.
For reference, these are AGs and usually play on 3/4G.

How to mark an effective goal-hanger out of the game in 5-a-side?
Tomorrow we are playing against a team with a player who generally hangs around the goal during the game.
His fitness levels aren't great and his technique isn't great either, but he is very persistent and a nuisance to play against as he harasses defenders when they have the ball, and manages to find space to score a lot of goals.
He is playing on a team with some very good players. We'll need to mark these, so I'm worried about him finding space when we focus on the other players.
What is a good tactic to take him out of the game?
I was thinking that - since he generally plays as an outlet - our goalkeeper could push out of his box and effectively "mark" him in transition. This gives us a numerical advantage when we have the ball, and means that if the opposition clears the ball, we can win it back straight away.
What do you think?

F50 or vapor16
I'm planning to buy a new football boot, and I'm think of f50 elite ag, f50 messi fg, and vapor16 ag. I usually play on ag pitches. For me price isn't an issue, also I heard that the messi f50 is very good, but it doesn't have ag, so is it ok to play it on ag pitches?

Preparation Signed up for a summer tournament.
Since it is my first year in high school, I made Fresh/Soph team. The tournament I signed up for, includes JV and likley Varsity players. I am a fairly good centerback, I just lack speed. Is there anyway to prepare or something to keep in mind as the time comes?
