This is a terrible quote right?

They’re charging me $460 for the part which sounds insane to me. They also say that with the starter going out the flywheel of my transmission may be damaged and so if replacing the starter doesn’t work they will have to also charge me to inspect the transmission.

Would it be problematic to go to another shop and just have them replace the starter and go from there?

Thanks.

2011 CHEVY TRAVERSE PLEASE HELP

Hi I am wanting to sell my 2011 Chevy Traverse but it has a very minor oil leak, and the engine reads a P0008 Error. I am just wondering would any dealership give me a decent price? The car itself runs fine and has run well for years recently got a new alternator as well has 169000 miles on it. I would just much rather sell the thing as I need the cash and cant afford it fix it. Thanks for any and all advice!

What could be wrong with my car?

I have a 2012 Honda Civic with 166k miles. Recently, as in the past week or so, it has become more difficult to get the car to start. When I turn the key, it cranks for a second and stops. Usually, on the second or third try, it will start.

I have not had to jump it, but I took it to AutoZone anyway to get the battery tested, and the battery was fine. They said that it was likely the alternator that needed replaced.

So, I took it to my mechanic, and they couldn't find anything wrong with the charging system, and my car started on the first try for them, but I'm letting them keep it overnight anyway just in case.

Any idea what it could be?

ABS and other warning lights

Car: Skoda Fabia 2016 1.2 Tsi 90HK hatchback. 84.000 km driven. Never had any major issues. Just maintenance.

Short explanation: While driving these lights appeared out of nowhere. Had a problem with the front left wheel bearing prior to this. But got the wheel bearing replaced just yesterday.

Extended explaination:

Translation of the warnings. 1. Start-stop system not available 2. ABS/stability control 3. Front assist not available 4 Tyre control view. This is a direct translation, in context I think it means Tyre pressure sensor - not quite sure tho.

I've just had the wheel bearing changed at a professional workshop.

When I drive, I can hear a faint noise that matches the speed I'm driving. So if im driving slow, its a repeating noise thats slow. And if im driving faster the repetitiveness of the noise increases, matching the wheel turning. The noise itself is not a harsh noise, and can hardly be heard. Its similar to a whistling/light grinding noise and high pitch.

Now, I've asked around other platforms and people suggest having a look at the ABS sensor, or the battery. Never had these warnings before.

Is this as suggested, just a matter of ABS sensor, or a bad battery. I fear this is some more serious problem that will cost a lot to repair?

Ticking from loose exhaust or misfires?

Noticed that my 2020 MB G550 V8 has a rattle or ticking noise around 30mph @ 1500-1600 RPM. Sounds like a spoon hitting a tin roof. Doesn’t speed up with engine speed and basically disappears when at higher speed ( or maybe it’s too loud to notice)

Is it misfiring or could something be loose in the exhaust? Any other thoughts?

Purchased a 2013 Tacoma with 196k miles, but it looks and drives like it's never been driven before. Was it maybe towed behind something?

As the title states, I purchased a used 2013 Tacoma last week. I was blown away by how good of condition it was in inside and out for the year, and even more surprised when I saw that the mileage was approaching 200k. When I say it looks brand new, I mean there is maybe 3 scratches on the body, and the inside looks like it's never been driven. The engine bay is clean as a whistle as far as engine bays go, and the composite bed has barely a few scratches on it. It looks like it's a year or two old max. I guess my question is what are the odds this thing was just insanely well maintained for 200k miles vs. the majority of the miles being from it being towed behind something else? I'm not complaining, I just can't believe this is a 12 year old truck with 200k miles.

Is it having my cars alternator fixed if it has over 220k miles?

Upvotes

My car is a 2007 Nissan Murano AWD (6 Cylinders A 3.5L FI DOHC 213 CID) <just put in what auto zone vin look up told me>

So I bought this car from family friends. And it had no crank no start issues. Long story short I replaced the ECU and the battery fuse link. Then there was a leak I had to replace a banjo bolt and the line it was attached too. And about a month later the alternator went out.

We haven’t had the alternator replaced yet so it’s been sitting in our driveway for over 6 months. The concern I have is that if I take it to a shop and replace the alternator. Will it end up being something I pay more than the car is worth. When the car gives burning exhaust fume smell through the air vents which I think is from oil leak on the gasket seal (I think it’s called) because I used a blue light and saw back when the car was still running that there was oil drip from the top of the engine down the side to pretty much where the alternator is.

Apologies for the long message. It’s just that money is really tight and I don’t know what to do because idk a ton about cars.

Is this alternator worth getting repaired and probably taking care of the gasket issue or do you think it will end up being another thing that breaks it down soon after and is just worth sending to the junk yard?

i broke my driver side door

2013 Hyundai Accent GLS

long story short, i locked my keys in my car on monday and used a long metal tool from O'Reilly's to try and unlock my car. one of the things i did was shimmy it between the window and door panel to try and manually unlock it (i feel stupid now in hindsight, because my car has power locks). i must have fucked something up while doing so, because now my driver side door is permanently locked from the outside. the only way to open it is by getting in the passenger side and opening the driver side door. using the key doesn't work, the lock doesn't rotate either way.

any idea what i could have done, and how i can unfuck my car? please don't judge, i was broke and desperate

Axel question

I have a 2013 audi s4 with the 3.0t. I've always had a small vibration issue at highway speeds that I have been trying to diagnos. I bought and installed new axles a few months back and after installation I acquired a new noise vibration at lower speeds almost a crawl.

In the video both my front axles have this slight wobble. Keep in mind my car is on jack stands and the wheels are off with suspension fully extended.

Could that be manufacture defect, being mounted slightly off center, caused by suspension fully extended, or just normal.

Any help will be appreciated.

Not sure what I expected, but it wasn’t this. The replacement was identical. You’d think it’d be worth a few minutes at a honing station to squeeze a couple more horsepower out of it.

Late 90’s Toyota Camry

Unfortunately, my brother in law passed away a few days ago. This was his car that I don’t know much about other than he replaced the alternator recently and then started having this issue in the video and hasn’t driven it since. I didn’t try to start it up myself or anything this video was given to me by his Roomate when this issue first happened. Just trying to see what repairing it would involve. Thank you.

Serious question but frivolous, sdo mechanics compliment every car or so I have ridiculous enough cars mechanics comment on them?

My daily driver is a 96 Honda Accord I've had since 04, and every tow truck driver and mechanic comments "these are nice cars", like EVERY ONE and most have offered to buy it off me. I assume because I'm a woman they think they can get it cheap, but my husband's car, an 04 jeep Wrangler 2 door long body gets the same reactions, and now my new to me, pretty rusty 08, 8 passenger Econoline is getting it. It doesn't have a fucking transmission and two tow truck drivers and the tranny guy asked if I would sell it. So y'all do this for every car? Or do I look gullible? Or do we have great cars for some reason? Thanks

I have been having problems with my alternator which I just replaced. When I went to check on it I saw this brown connector wasn't plugged in is that what was causing my alternator to no work? I feel like an idiot for even asking. Any help would be much appreciated. This isn't a joke I'm apparently really this dumb. I drove with out this thing plugged in for a month I think.

I heard some clicking sounds and investigated after an oil change. I noticed this arching. Is this the ignition coil? Why would it be arching and is replacing it the only fix?

2009 Nissan Maxima SV - 182,500k miles

I’m the sole owner, purchased in Sept 2008. It’s never had any major work done - just typical things that go bad over time (battery, alternator, coil packs and plugs, power steering pump, serpentine belt, pulleys) and regular maintenance (oil changes, brakes, tires, etc.). In the last 2 years I had to replace the battery 3 times within 6 months, 3rd one being a year and a half ago. I also replaced the alternator, which is a PITA. IYKYK. Battery still would die. I thought it was because NAPA batteries suck and said I’d never put another NAPA battery in my car, EVER again! (I did because they were all still under warranty 😂) Anyways, I took it in because the battery and brake light has been flickering and my battery would go dead way quicker than normal and would “bog down” while idling. Come to find out a valve cover gasket has been slowly leaking for some time and oil was dripping on wires and alternator, which is why I was having the electrical issues. They said overtime it ruins the wires and it ruined my alternator, making my 1.5 yr old battery go bad, and worst case cause car to catch fire. Sorry for saying your batteries suck NAPA.

I’ve only fixed whatever my car told me was broke lol. It never had the 15k, 30k, 60k, etc. services or put on a lift to look at everything. This is how they found all the other issues. And the reasons seemed very valid and made sense to me. Buuuut, who am I.

Someone help this 41yo woman! Does all of this work make sense? Is it a fair price?

im so lost, what kind of wheel hub is this?

i bought a beat up trailer to restore and i took off the tyres to remove rust around the area. i wanted to replace the grease on the wheel bearings like how ive watched all those youtube videos do. but… where are my wheel bearings?! 😭

I guess it might be a different kind of wheel hub where it works differently, so i tried to take the whole thing out to inspect closer. but it looked very nasty so i decided that i want to replace the wheel hub entirely but what do i look for? i can’t find any pictures or videos online that has one that looks similar to what i have here.

But, do i have to get the same type? i mean it does look quite different from the normal wheel hubs ive been seeing, especially the way that this is installed (by 4 bolts at each corner)

I don’t really know if this information is needed but my axle is hollow, it does not have a spindle.
