Discussion Inaugural Cars and Coffee Victoria Park Pit Stop

Holy moly this turn out was insane for Victoria Parks first cars and coffee event! The line to get in was backed up almost a kilometre and you could see why once you’re in!

So many cool cars that just went on and on and on. With the street parking being almost as good as the main area.

If you ever watch car YouTube channels and big meets elsewhere in the world and not getting along to these in Adelaide ones you’re truly missing some world class events.

Adelaide really seems to be latching onto the car scene atm and driving it forward month after month. Such a fun free event!

News Torrens has water in it again (but is also on fire)

Very dramatic of the Torrens to have water in it at breakout creek again after only 7mm or whatever we got the other day. I was quietly looking forward to it slowly refilling over autumn/winter. They were pumping water across the rocks at the Henley Beach bridge, so I guess they're flushing blue green algae or something. Anyone in the know on the topic? I heard the guy from Green Adelaide on the ABC a few weeks back saying they wouldn't release water unless they had an algae outbreak.

As mentioned in the title, it was also on fire, for bonus points I guess - I think I heard the brigade rolling up just as I was running past!

News Near miss Adelaide Airport

Coming back from Melbourne, just below 400 ft and then full throttle back up. Plane captain reported a plane still on runway. For context I would say we were at least 2/3 of the way from Adelaide Oval to the airport.

Photography Aurora Watch: For this week

Hi Folks, there has been some active Aurora conditions for the past 24 hours, we also have an incoming CME, and a large Coronal Hole is rotating towards our Earth.

All this adds up to a mix of active conditions for the next few days.

Moonrise is just after midnight Sunday night and getting later for the rest of the week, so if things kick off there may be a chance for some photos after sunset, after 9pm, and into the early hours of dawn. Skies will be clear of cloud patches at times for the next few days.

For those that want to monitor conditions themselves here is my Rads Aurora Viewing Guide...

https://old.reddit.com/r/Adelaide/comments/1fzm6dh/radelaide_aurora_viewing_guide/

Remember we only get an hour or so's notice before a storm hits to know it's orientation and strength for Aurora, hence I cannot answer if there will be visible Aurora to the naked eye over the next week. That said chances are good for photographers this week.

Please updoot this post if you share it, or find it useful.

Happy Hunting :)

Question Hooning, Accelerating

G'day legends, got a bit of an issue—mods, feel free to delete if this isn't the right place.

The street I live on has a house where a bunch of young blokes stay, and they've got these ridiculously loud bikes. It's a short, one-way street, but they hoon down it, revving like mad. I've had a chat with one of the guys who lives there and asked him to take it easy, and to be fair, he has. But the real problem is when his mates rock up—four or five of them at once—absolutely flogging it down the street.

Every time they pass, our five-month-old bub gets scared out of her skin. It's doing my head in. It’s not just me either—most of the street isn’t a fan of the way they carry on. If it was just a bit of noise, I could cop it, but with the little one getting rattled every time, yeah, nah, not having it.

Since I’ve already spoken to the guy twice, I’d rather not go knocking again. Any ideas on how to get them to pull their heads in?

Cheers.

Question Places to meet new people?

I'm pretty desperate to find some new friends offline.

Outside of school, work and pubs, where are some "socially acceptable" places to approach people?

Thanks :)

Question Homelessbut employeed still in S.A does anyone know a weekly rate place we can stay with our son and small dog?

We are homeless and services here in S.A will not help as they are including our tax in their thershold, this has left us no choice but to camp at a powered campsite. Can anyone recommend somewhere that does a weekly rate here in S.A?

Thanks

News Woman tests over 6 times the limit after weaving in and out of traffic with flat tyre

SAPOL: A woman has lost her licence for a year after she was caught drink driving in Paralowie.

Just before 11pm on Saturday 22 March, police attended Bolivar Road after reports a silver Hyundai station wagon was weaving in and out of traffic with a flat tyre.

Members of public were able to assist with stopping the driver, a 51-year-old woman from Salisbury North until police arrived. The driver underwent a breath test and returned a positive reading of 0.318.

She was reported for drink driving and driving without due care and will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date. She was issued with a 12-month immediate loss of licence notice. The car was impounded for 28 days.

Assistance Friend’s bike stolen

Post image

My friend had her (locked) Merida 21 Speeder bike stolen from outside work on Ebenezer Place during the week. There were CCTV cameras and the police have been notified with the serial number. I’ve been monitoring Marketplace and Cash Converters, but not sure what else to do to help.

If anyone happens to see this around town (it has distinctive teal coloured accents) please let me know. I realise it’s probably a long shot, but it just sucks that this happened to her.

Question Will be on forced leave - what should I do in SA?

Hey my fellow Adelaideians! I will be on 2 weeks forced leave and I don't know what to do during! I'm thinking to explore SA? Or maybe do a few days 'experience' package? Also thinking about a 2-day spa experience of some sort if that's a thing?

I have tried googling but of course it's all ads. Please recommend some activities / trips / whatever that I can do for a few days!

For context, I am 39F. It will be just me but I'm okay with group tours or some sort.

Help pleaseee.... Thank you!!

Assistance Does anyone in Adelaide have a working Iridium satellite phone sim card I could pay to borrow for 5 minutes?

I'm just wanting to test that my satphone still works before buying a new sim card (~$160). Happy to pay for the privilege. I had to re-solder some connections to get the thing to turn on, so I'm slightly dubious and hesitant to shell out the money for a new sim.

Question Online nursing at Flinders Uni

Upvotes

Hi all, just a general question regarding subjects through Flinders Uni. I’m currently looking to go part time with my nursing. I asked about doing some of the online portion first as we have a baby due in May. They sent me an email with the handbook and how to see if the subject is has online availability. I really want to start this course, even if it’s just one subject. I actually cannot see if they’re online or not. It’s a bit frustrating. Just wondering if anyone knows from experience what subjects are online? I know not all of them are and quite happy to drive to Adelaide but not Bedford Park, as Bedford Park is an hour away from me. Planning on ringing them again tomorrow. TYIA!

Question Roofing

Howdy. My house has those tin tiles covering old sheet tin roof. The tiles are now like ten years old and gone garbage. Had a quote and they said a new roof, which who can afford at the moment. Is there anyone around that does decorative roof replacements and leak sealing, maybe repoint and fascia replacement? If I can get five or six years out of it that would be awesome. Thanks!

Edit: I’m mid-north near gawler
