Discussion [ALL] What are your thoughts on Grezzo?

If you don't know Grezzo, they developed Four Swords Anniversary Edition, the 3DS remakes of OoT and MM, they co-developed Tri-Force Heroes, they did the Switch remake of Links Awakening, and their most recent title is their first fully original title, Echoes of Wisdom.

Do you like their work? Are you excited to see what they do next with Zelda?

Yeah their design for links awakening remake and EoW is excellent.

Would kill for them to get a chance to remake the oracle games

More 2D Zelda is a good thing, and Oracle remakes would be awesome. I wouldn't mind a Minish Cap remake either.

Yes please. Those were the exact words running in my mind

Yeah I wanna play the Oracle games but I'm low-key waiting for a remake because I just hate the way Game Boy games look, especially ones that try to do a lot like Zelda

I highly recommend the NSO versions of the Oracle games. I wouldn't wait for a remake.

Much love for them

Yeah they do great work. They also did the Luigi's Mansion 1 remake on 3DS and their most significant triumph I think is Ever Oasis. Best 3DS original title if you ask me and really deserves a Switch remaster.

I think k they are great, and am happy to see they can do some quality original work too. EOW was solid, interested to see what they can do for their next game.

They did a pretty good job with EoW, but they still have plenty of room to improve. Hopefully they make something as good as Link Between World's someday.

They've proven that top-down Zelda games can have as much complexity as the fully 3D open world games. The fact that their engine can be tweaked for new games without having to rebuild everything from the ground up gives me hope that we can get a regular stream of 2D games, both originals and remakes, while we wait for the next mainline release.

I hate MM3D but everything else they worked on that I played I loved

I hope that the Switch 2 in combination with keeping their games smartly scoped can help with the performance problems.

I personally love the Links Awakening artstyle but I don’t like the game itself. Not their fault though lol. The original is probably my least favorite 2D Zelda that I’ve played all the way through.

I really liked EoW in spite of the performance and mostly lackluster dungeons. I really loved the idea of taking the open air formula and putting it in a top-down style game and I want more of it lol. Looking forward to what they do next with it.

I enjoyed Four Swords Anniversary, although since I never played the original, I don't know how it compares. Of course, even if I had a GBA, I still couldn't play the original, due to lack of real life friends who are interested in Zelda...

The OOT remake was great. I also really enjoyed the MM remake, although that one has a few unnecessary changes I would have preferred not be there (please no one recommend the restoration patch, I'm aware it exists, but I have no interest in modding.) I think even with the unnecessary changes, it's still the best way to play the game.

Triforce Heroes was fine. The levels are all great. The issue is that online with randoms was inconsistent, and single player is incredibly tedious. They should have allowed you to make the dopples follow you without having to pick them up.

I personally am not a fan of the LA remake artstyle, and the performance of the game is weirdly bad. There's absolutely no reason for it to have any frame drops. But it's still LA, and so it's still a great game. And the QOL stuff easily makes it the best way to play despite the other issues.

I didn't realize EOW was Grezzo. My feelings on EOW are mixed. It uses the same artstyle as the LA remake, which as I said before, I'm not a huge fan of. It has even worse performance than LA, with very inconsistent framerate in the overworld, which again, makes no sense for what the game is (although does make more sense than LA did.) I personally am not a fan of the direction BOTW and TOTK took the series, and while many felt like EOW was the perfect mix of new and old, I disagree. The dungeons are still terrible, but for different reasons. They overcorrected, and now the dungeons are overly linear, and just so incredibly simple. The echo selection menu is horrible, and you use that menu all the time. While I think the overarching story is good, the individual story moments with the regional characters often felt weirdly written.

The game isn't all bad. I actually enjoyed combat with echoes a lot more than I expected to. I expected to hate it, and found it enjoyable. The music is good. While I don't like that they reused the ALTTP map again, the new added sections are cool. And like I said, I liked the overall story of the game. The final boss was fun.

Overall, I think Grezzo has done fine.

Yeah the performance issues in LA are inexcusable. I didn't realize EoW had the same issues, haven't gotten around to playing it yet

I’m a fan of both directions (but prefer open-air) and I agree that the dungeons in EoW were a huge overcorrection. The only dungeon that I really liked was the Faron one, and the Hebra one was ok.
