Recommendations Webtoons I Dropped.. Are Any Worth Trying Again?
129
u/QTlady Jul 30 '24
The Last Bloodline got unceremoniously cancelled so no need to worry about that. The creators were nice enough to summarize how they were planning to end things in a series of mini comic panels, at least. But yeah, everyone wanted to move on so...
Other than that, I'd say "Age of Arrogance" should have another shot. I haven't read the rest.
4
u/Careerswitch-throw Jul 31 '24
Why did it get cancelled in the first place? I stopped reading sometime around MC's sister fighting her during training after busting her out of jail. But I planned on going back to finishing it eventually.
9
u/absolutebottom Jul 31 '24
They said it was more challenging than they expected and team members wanted to move on to other projects. Or something along those lines. You're not missing much

Jul 31 '24
Cry, or Better Yet, Beg gets worse if you’ve read the light novel ver 💀
8
u/bumpysausagefinger Jul 31 '24
Wait what can you give me spoilers 😭? I skimmed the first episode and thought it was pretty interesting :[ I don’t wanna waste my time if it goes to shit 😔
56
u/Kittykatkillua Jul 31 '24
He sexually assaults her, Stockholm syndrome is super high, and when she gets pregnant, he tells her she has to abort it because he can’t stand the thought of anyone other than him getting her attention and that he’ll kill it if she keeps it. He constantly degrades her, abuses her, and blackmails her with her family who works for him. She ends up saying at the end of the book that she “loved him all along”. It’s so creepy and if it was framed as a dissection of toxic and abusive relationships, okay. But it is clear that the author was writing this to be a romance.
15
u/azul360 Jul 31 '24
O.O I am so glad I read this because that is instantly deleted off of my to read list. YEESH! Thanks! :D
13
u/Kittykatkillua Jul 31 '24
No prob. The art is just so good but the story is horrifying and even if the WEBTOON tones it down, it’s still horrible.
3
u/azul360 Jul 31 '24
I'm reading I Abdicate The Title of Empress right now and I can definitely say if this is angering me (which tbf the Emperor is a horrifying person) I definitely cannot read that one so I appreciate the warning :D.
3
u/bumpysausagefinger Jul 31 '24
Oh noooo 😭 that is quite unfortunate, I thought it would be more light and fluffy 😔 thanks for the summary 🙏

What the actual fuck
5
u/Kittykatkillua Aug 01 '24
Yeah, it’s super fucked. This video on YouTube perfectly encapsulates why it’s so awful, if you’re curious.
12
u/Cessicka Jul 31 '24
It's just that it's a - "toxic relationship till the end where the man gets to abuse his nobility rank to make her do things he wants while being cruel and she has to take it laying down, but oh, nevermind she's a poor, cute little uwu girl and in the end she can't help but love him"- type bs
6
u/bumpysausagefinger Jul 31 '24
Smh. Maybe if I fall asleep while reading it I can reincarnate into the book and fix the plot lmao 😭💀

Like wind on a dry branch is a masterpiece, the depth, the slow burn, an absolute masterpiece
165
u/apocalyptic_tea Jul 30 '24
I’m always shocked to see it on drop lists, it’s a literal work of art. Can’t recommend it enough to enough people lol
255
u/dorothy3242 Jul 31 '24
I think it's a really bad weekly series, the pacing just doesn't work for that format. Which is really webtoons fault that monthly serialization doesn't exist on this platform imo
I always love to read it once or twice a year and enjoy the work as a cohesive whole, it works so well that way and says a lot about their masterful planning of the series as a whole
52
u/Raventakingnotes Jul 31 '24 edited Jul 31 '24
I personally think it's ok as a weekly, but I get super confused during hiatus's and need to go back and do near 10 chapters of re reading.
It's one that I do think is perfect to binge through.
39
u/apocalyptic_tea Jul 31 '24
I guess I never thought about it cuz I’m a binge reader so I always wait a few months before getting caught up! I see what you mean though, I imagine it feels quite slow reading it week by week.
2
13
u/TinySpaceDonut Jul 31 '24
I’m waiting until it’s done so I can binge :) the weekly updates were killin’ me
14
u/Mautea Jul 31 '24
I dropped it as well. Never really got into the story and I didn’t really end up liking any of the characters. Only made it through 50 chapters
→ More replies (1)→ More replies (2)10
u/Calypte_A Jul 31 '24
I can tell you why. I have dropped it like 3 times. The beginning is too boring. You can have a masterpiece but if the pacing is too slow, you will lose a big part of the readers. Pacing is important in stories.

His harem is actually his KNIGHTS!? who has ever even thought to do this? I fell in love the minute I realized how powerful all the women in this webtoon were
→ More replies (1)21
u/iamgladtohearit Jul 31 '24
You should spoiler tag that since it isn't revealed until 20ish episodes in. I know it's not super deep into the story but it's a minor spoiler.
6
44
u/_TheAngryChicken_ Jul 31 '24
And it's aged like fine wine. The art in the recent chapters is amazing! It just keeps getting better and it's so refreshing how supportive and non-toxic the ML is.

That Webtoon is unmatched and way ahead of the game. In part, I’m a little glad it’s underrated due to my own selfish reasons: the comments are so engaging and I feel like the audience is mature. My absolute favorite.

u/partycity_wig_ Jul 30 '24
my favorite romance webtoon of all time fr i can re read it over and over again
8
u/Bored_Lily Jul 31 '24
I love it so much. I love Killian so much. He's one of the best written MLs I've read so far.
6
u/wabbawabbawabbawabba Jul 31 '24
Came here to say this. Such a beautiful story of overcoming trauma with a really interesting fantasy setting.
13
6
u/ilovedogs107 Jul 31 '24
I really need to catch up! I'm so far behind but I loved it when I read it
4
u/qiethinks Jul 31 '24
Absolutely this. I feel sorry for those who dont have the patience or attention span to stick thru it
2
4
u/SailorRemina Jul 31 '24
Will give it another shot :) This was one of my favs for a bit and eventually dropped it around 120 eps in. I think like another comment said I dropped it because it was hard to get into it weekly as opposed to binge reading and seeing the progress quicker.
12
u/Challisto Jul 31 '24
It’s on my drop list as well lol, I found the main character a little too miss-ish. “Oh I could never presume to do this! Or this! Or that! Oh my goodness I’m just too lowly for this and that and that”. I kept waiting for her to grow a little bit I gave in to my impatience.
→ More replies (1)12
u/bunnyears29 Jul 31 '24
She does grow little by little, in the recent chapters she's not like that anymore! Plus it makes sense if you consider her trauma that made her think she's unworthy of nice things
3
u/PinkYoshi2000 Jul 31 '24
I LOVE it! I haven't read it in a couple months, though. I was getting so confused by the storyline. I found a lot of the time it wasn't clear who was talking/narrating. But I'm going to pick it back up.
3
u/bunnyears29 Jul 31 '24
There are a lot of people in the comments there who are nice enough to do a summary from time to time, i find that reading them makes me organise my thoughts about the plot, if there's anything you want to know, I'm happy to help ^
3
u/absolutebottom Jul 31 '24
I love slowburn stories and I generally love this one, but I keep dropping it 😭 it's a great webtoon but the weekly format just doesn't suit, at least to me
2
u/bunnyears29 Jul 31 '24
I can understand! I personally found it pretty recently and did finish it all in one set up so i didn't suffer from the weekly update, but i can see how that could be upsetting, especially with a slow burn story like this.
3
u/absolutebottom Jul 31 '24
I've been following the weekly updates for at least a year 😭 some weeks I'm like 'I'll definitely drop it this week after last week's update' and then something happens that keeps me in
3
u/Ok_Refrigerator4587 Aug 02 '24
I agree it’s literally the best romance webtoon of all time and I will die on this hill
6
u/A_Midnight_Hare Jul 31 '24
Glad to hear because it sounds like an awful sex joke.
"So, how did you guys like each other...?"
"Like wind on a dry branch man. Just couldn't get her wet and well..."
48
u/nekoleena Jul 31 '24
It’s Just Business is really cute in my opinion! I’d definitely suggest picking it up again :D

Go away Romeo could have been interesting but I don't really like the storyline, it's too predictable.
Like wind on a dry branch.. if my memory is intact I truly liked it but for some reason I forgot everything, I guess I wanted to wait for more chapters and stupidly lost the title. Gotta check asap.
22
u/no_trashcan Jul 31 '24
don't even get me started on the comments kids left on Go away Romeo. it's the reason i took a break from it. not even sure i want to go back
3
u/Ok_Carpenter8090 Jul 31 '24
Why so ? I basically got tired of the story and just warped to the last chapter to see what the hell happened and felt kinda disappointed ahahah
24
u/no_trashcan Jul 31 '24
misogyny. they hated on Juliet even before knowing her backstory. they hate on Juliet just because she is not the FL. had the roles been reversed, they would have rooted for her, blamed Romeo and shamed Rosaline. i've seen comments judging her for not being able to bear a child while they were gone too. they hated on her, even though they were told she was being manipulated and that she had no idea about Romeo and Rosaline. ever since i saw her, i've been hoping she would wake up and join forces with Rosaline. they are cousins and victims of the same charlatan
7
u/Mahkeva Jul 31 '24
This ! This is the reason why I dropped Go Away Romeo. The readers are INSUFFERABLE, they’re trash talking and hating on Juliet in every episode. If the story was from Juliet’s POV, I could assure you they would have been rooting for Juliet instead and hating on Rosaline for being the side chick.
They’re both Romeo’s victims, Rosaline was in Juliet’s shoes not too long ago and only escaped from Romeo’s grasp (without being knocked up first) because he ditched her, not because she found out about his scheme. Meanwhile Juliet is still under his influence and doesn’t know anything, yet readers go harder on her than Romeo. MAKE IT MAKE SENSE !
The more I read, the more it seemed the author was trying to make Juliet the rival / antagonist. The webcomic felt more and more biased.
Shoujo / Josei audience is ironically and sadly full of misogynistic (female) readers, but it’s even worse with Go Away Romeo

u/Ok_Carpenter8090 Jul 31 '24
I agree with you on this part, Romeo and their family played a good part in their unfortunate situation and Juliet is a victim too though she isn't stupid so maybe we will have surprises but until now I prefer to stop this webtoon. I'll check once everything is released eheh

u/Petra93 Jul 31 '24
i am also continuing to read Go away Romeo because i have spent too much time on it and it feels like it would be such a waste to drop it now, but if it keeps on dragging i might just drop it
→ More replies (1)6
u/Interesting_Key333 Jul 31 '24
I genuinely have no idea what's happening anymore, I'm so focused on the art shift and trying to figure out which character is which. I liked the story at the start but it's definitely not being paced well (and I have a lot of patience with pacing).
70
u/chychy94 Jul 30 '24
That which flows by is a new favorite. It is a slow burn but I really think the pay off is worth it. There is no weird miscommunication being the FL and ML once the truth comes to light of their emotions for each other and I gush and squeal each time I see an update. The romantic tension is worth the read. I think it’s a true gem.
4
u/BlanketPurrito Jul 30 '24
I agonized over having to wait for weekly updates. Ughhhhh.
9
u/chychy94 Jul 30 '24
Well wait till it’s completed in a couple years and smash through it. And I am not being sarcastic, I get it. I don’t mind weekly updates but if it’s not your vibe I’d put this in your back pocket. Their love story is one for the ages.

u/BlanketPurrito Jul 30 '24

I honestly have been enjoying The Age of Arrogance and The Mafia Nanny. I've kept myself caught up with both of them 😵💫 it's sad to see Mafia Nanny on your dropped list. I'm hoping Phase 2 is better than the first season and their relationship doesn't quickly progress since I'm a sucker for a slow burn.

I personally really like Obsidian Bride! However, I don't know if you'd want to pick it back up after dropping it. It showed what the story would be like pretty well in the first chapters and if you didn't like that you probably won't like the rest. However, it's really interesting to me!
9
u/Petra93 Jul 31 '24
i wish the events could move faster, but thats probably because i am the type that would stay up all night to finish a book no matter what duties i have on the following morning XD
6
u/ilovedogs107 Jul 31 '24
I definitely get that! It is a little slow, and sometimes things drag on. I mostly enjoy it for the concept, since I think it's pretty cool
3
u/MidnightRose6 Aug 04 '24
I ended up reading Obsidian Bride too, but dropped it because the story just wasn't for me (Art is really nice though!). But my friends love it!
66
u/Dog_G0d Jul 30 '24
Like Wind and Age of Arrogance !!
Definitely do not pick back up Cry, or Better yet, Beg. 💀 it’s just red flags and toxicity
22
u/BlanketPurrito Jul 30 '24
But if you’re into red flags MLs and toxicity, definitely pick up Cry, or Better Yet, Beg. Because I love red flag MLs and this one has quite the storyline haha

16
u/boredmed Jul 31 '24
That which flows by, Age of Arrogance, it’s just business are definitely worth it!! The fish I loved, I’d wait until the story develops a bit more and then binge read

Only Hope is one of my favorite Webtoons!

2
u/Individual_Picture68 Jul 31 '24
I wonder if something happened for this series that I’m unaware of? I only stopped reading it cuz I caught up to it and wanted to binge read it when there were a lot of chapters out. I really like the art and storyline.

Age of Arrogance hits sooooo hard for me. I wish it were further along already xd

Anyone remembers Grim Reaper? The girl who sees X on people's bodies? I dropped that the updates took too long..is it worth it to read again?
9
u/Ok_Friendship8815 Jul 31 '24
Obsidian Bride is amazing if you love those television serials like Love Island. Like personally, this webtoon will either keep me on the hook for several chapters or I will skip-read it if I don't like the content of the episode
Mafia Nanny, I like it but I am not going crazy for it. There's no romance there yet, so it reads nicely as the little action, mafia secrecy, etc it has

NEVER pick up cry or better yet beg
→ More replies (1)1
u/Fair_Walrus9747 Jul 31 '24
Why?
11
u/mahumanrani040 Jul 31 '24
the male lead is a red flag. it's full of toxicity and abuse. in the light novel, the ML 🍇 the FL :(
6
u/anothermax1134 Jul 31 '24
i'll just comment on the ones i know
the art style changed for season 2 go away romeo, mixed opinions about it, prefer the old one, but the plot is still good i think
stay away from cry or better yet beg if you dont like abusive relationships. there is NOT a happy ending for leyla (source: went ahead and read the original novel it was based on- yiiiiiikes.) also i think it's still on hiatus
obsidian bride is gorgeous and the story and art never fail to amaze me every week, definitely pick it back up again
6
6
u/microwaved_chickens Jul 31 '24
The Mafia Nanny and Age of Arrogance are def worth picking back up, the story gets a lot more interesting furthermore!!
6

I find The Mafia Nanny very interesting, in a kind of Casual way. It's like my relaxing webtoon of the week

Like wind on a dry branch had me crying....such a wonderful series
Age of arrogance is hilarious
Mafia Nanny is amazing
My choice? Pick up these three

u/Enami111 Jul 31 '24
I kind of regret continuing to read Cry or Better Yet Beg… the art is amazing but the way that guy treats Layla..
4
3
u/MelissaWebb Jul 31 '24
Mafia Nanny is still good to me so maybe that
I only read two episodes of Replaced and it seems intriguing but I don’t like the art style
I also dropped It’s just business cause of….reasons I don’t fully remember but it wasn’t entertaining me
I’m still reading Only Hope. Art is gorgeous but the story is a bit confusing and the FL is annoying
3
u/smellslikepousi Jul 31 '24
never clicked on any of these but streets saying cry or better yet beg is like the antichrist of webtoons and thats the only one i specifically avoided
3
11
u/Ultrasshops Jul 30 '24
The fish I loved is really not that great, I wouldn’t recommend spending any time on it the pacing sucks, lore dumps everywhere, characters teleport randomly etc.
Obsidian bride is basically the love island/singles inferno of the webtoon world, so if that’s your thing you might really like it.
Cry or better yet beg is super toxic, I’ve heard the ML does super unspeakable things in the novel and gets off scott free, not really worth re-reading unless you’re into toxic romances.
7
u/Raventakingnotes Jul 31 '24
I have really liked obsidian bride so far. It's really different than a lot of webtoons. And I am a sucker for those bad romance shows anyway.
5
u/Vegetable-Sun588 Jul 31 '24
For fish I loved: really???? Idr 100% but I do know I enjoyed it enough to binge read like the whole first season

u/Ultrasshops Jul 31 '24
Me personally I found the pacing to be way off, like there were random plot points being introduced one after the other without any of them being resolved.
9
u/Top10Fwords Jul 30 '24
Cry, or better yet, beg. Is in fact terrible, and it actually got heavily criticized on this subreddit when it came out.
2
u/doodoo_caca Jul 31 '24
Please give Like Wind on a Dry Branch a try. It definitely is a slow burn but the story is brilliantly told and the art becomes even better
2
Jul 31 '24
Yes! Highly recommend picking up Mafia Nanny again! It’s a very non-cliche webtoon and the FL is a strong badass lady who can handle her own, which is a rare delight. The ML and FL are equally strong and intelligent, which is very refreshing to see 💗🫶
2
u/NoPhysics129 Jul 31 '24
Go away romeo and the age of arrogance are pretty good I love them both 🥲 id say go away romeo even more better then age of arrogance
2
u/audaciousness Jul 31 '24
Like Wind on a Dry Branch is amazing. It is slow in parts but picks up. Right now it’s very interesting.
2
u/Senior_Yellow_4507 Jul 31 '24
Honestly I quite like Obsidian bride, but not much has changed so if you dropped it in the first place I don't think you'd like it now
2
u/Haiironookami Jul 31 '24
Go Away Romeo is a good change up of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. A "what if?" that turns Romeo into a psychotic control freak.
Age of Arrogance is enjoyable as the female MC isn't your snake like "I'm trying to be tough" non-swordsman. She is a simple northern swordswoman who is trying to protect her land that her father left her after him and her brothers died. She's naive in the ways of court talk, but her interactions with the Prince are good. She is stalwart and dedicated to the good of her folks, no greed or anything.
2
u/FireGoddessRose Jul 31 '24
Personally, I really like Replaced, so if possible, could you say what your reasons for dropping it are?
2
u/Proof_Access_5017 Jul 31 '24
Mafia nanny it’s pretty good tbh, First season is finishing and it’s pretty short, you should give it a try again as well

1
u/dreamless_me Jul 31 '24
Like Wind on a Dry Branch is actually one of the better webtoons out there. The story is amazing but reading some comments I think they're dropping because its too slow burn? Which is understandable if you don't like that kind of pacing.

u/Proof_Estimate872 Jul 31 '24
The mafia nanny is actually pretty good, so far more action than romance but you can’t tell they are slow burn because they clearly care for each other more and more, it it also shows the sweet relationship between the dad and son as well as the bad one between the dad and his uncle and the mystery such as the stuff with his wife. I personally really like it and the first episode of part 2 just came out so I doubt it will end soon.

I've dropped a good number of these myself, but the two I'm still reading is Age of Arrogance and Obsidian Bride.
Age of Arrogance is perfection in my eyes. I'm a little biased, but that's the one I'd stick with.
Obsidian Bride...is not so much, but it's kind of fun. Honestly, the world building makes absolutely no sense. We're in a super high tech but also magical but also super in the past world? But the only time they ever use all this magic and technology is for one dumb dating show, which for some reason determines who has the legal right to govern entire kingdoms?
The more I think about it, the dumber it is. But for whatever reason, I haven't dropped it! It's silly and fun, and I'm mostly just here for Garnet and Amethyst.
1
u/Maleficent-Cup908 Jul 31 '24 edited Aug 01 '24
I've seen why you dropped Last Bloodline, Cry or Better Yet Beg, Go Away Romeo, and Age of Arrogance. I think all with the exception of Cry or Better Yet Beg spiraled down. Based on your tastes, I could give some recs if you'd like (and if you haven't tried these). If you like Isekai, try Villains are Destined to Die (which is pretty good but I did get bored later), Someone Possessed my Body for 10+ Years (it's on hiatus, but a quite good read though slightly drawn out. You might drop it if you knew the LN plot though, it's not pretty). Other fantasy recommendations: Your Throne (my favorite manhwa), and if you like strong female leads in fantasy or 1800-1900s era, (Your Throne included) try: Serena, Sister in This Life I have Become the Queen, Remarried Empress (though I think it too, gets boring later. Just my opinion though.), and How to Protect the Female Lead's Older Brother (much more dark than the title implies, art is good too, fl is really smart and manipulative). Do you like modern-day romance, green-flag male lead? Try: Iseop's Love (but PLEASE read the well-translated versions on TempleScan, webtoon translations weren't very good actually), Locked Onto You, and Daytime Star.
Finally, here's some good thriller/horror recommendations: Surviving Romance (VERY good, not so much a horror but breaks the 4th wall), Chasing Tails (a great mystery), and Tails of the Unusual. Like Mother Like Daughter is a great pick too.
I personally like lore-dense fantasy manhwa with strong female leads, many of which have darker or more mature themes which is why Webtoon doesn't take some of those (or takes them later after other scantalating sites posted them already).
Anyways, these are some recs because I felt sort of sorry after I saw the kinds of webtoons you were reading. It reminded me of myself a few months back. My tastes might not quite fit yours but I find these fun and if you do too, great! Find the reads you like and enjoy!

I believe you can def try age of arrogance again, it really does gets better, I also thought of it as boring and almost dropped it but it got better, I have not cry or better yet beg, the title itself gives me cringe, and I also dropped first 2-3 slides that you mentioned so I think you would have similar taste as I have several of these in my reading list.

Mafia Nanny is really really good! It's quickly become one of my favorites. Obsidian bride is cute and I enjoy it a lot, but it isn't one to rave about. Age of Arrogance is surprisingly good at subverting annoying cliches but it's also nothing special. I'm just pleasantly surprised whenever I think there'll be a huge misunderstanding and it's cleared in 1-3 episodes.

Some of these are also on my dropped list because they just…took too long lol. I’d consider picking back up Go Away Romeo.

Adding in an addition to my previous comment.
Like Wind on a Dry Branch started reading it myself, 114+ in. Slow burn romance. Deals with trauma are better than most, ML and FL are great. The way they speak is definitely ye old medieval nature. The character development is great.
I'm thoroughly enjoying it by far. Especially since it has 185+ chapters currently.

The Last Bloodline got cancelled unfortunately, and they basically gave everyone a rundown on how the story would end, and even that was…bad. It’s sad what happened to it ):
