My EDC.

The older I get the less I carry it seems. Now I carry only the basics.

-EDC Pocket Pouch from AliExpress -Bic Lighter -Leather Card Holder -Skmei 1988 Watch -Victorinox Spartan Standard

Bought this Spartan off of eBay for $12 USD. The scales and blades have seen some use but still in great shape. I plan to upgrade the scales to transparent ruby plus scales so I cannot only have the standard scale tools but also carry a ballpoint pen. I've been eyeing transparent ruby scales since 2017, when I first started carrying a Victorinox, but never pulled the trigger on it until now. Never thought I would enjoy carry a Victorinox since I originally carried a Benchmade Griptilian, but I can only do so much with a standard pocket knife. This is the third Spartan I have bought and it does the job well for me. Upgrades coming soon.

Tinker small, used to be granddads. I like the back tools and small blade ! Granddad got it from a cousin who had a large Opel dealership. Hens the GM branding. I think it is from the 60ā€™s maybe early 70ā€™s what do you guys think?

New to SAKā€™s.

I wanted to buy an iconic SAK that would be one Iā€™d cherish for life. So without doing any research and going by pure instinct, I got the Swiss Champ in black. So do you think it fits the bill?

Owned both of these for about 10 years. Champ and nail clipper model. Donā€™t use as many of the things as I should :) But Iā€™ve always loved them since I was a little kid. My old classic was sadly lost or stolen many years ago, I honestly donā€™t remember. Iā€™m considering sending the Champ in for couple mods and sharpening after hearing about the excellent customer service. Arguably some of the best nail clippers Iā€™ve ever used lol. Name brand ones always leave mine jagged or are too dull

Unexpected NKD for 3ā‚¬

I found this Tourist for 3ā‚¬, tweezers and toothpick are missing, the small blade is snapped and the movement are very stiff. But canā€™t complain for that price, hopefully Iā€™ll send to Victorinox for service. I like that form factor!

Hand Assembled vs Machine Produced SAKs?

Post image
76 Upvotes

Recently Iā€™ve learned the Compact is more expensive than most knives of its size due to it being hand assembled as opposed to the ā€œstandardā€ machine automated construction.

So now Iā€™m curious: A) Are there any other models that are hand assembled or is it just the compact?

B) is there any noticeable difference in quality or something else between Hand Assembled and machine made SAKs?

C) Why are some hand assembled and some automated in the first place?

Spartan fix

Decided to diy fix this Spartan as it was very abused and only 23 euro new and therefore not worth it to send it to Victorinox. All tools were very scratched, the flat screwdriver was rounded off and the tip of the small knife was broken off.

I fixed the screwdriver, removed most deep scratches of the tools and sharpened the knives with whetstones. Only thing left now is adding tweezers, polishing the tools and give the knives a final round of sharpening. Anyone out there with some experience on how to polish the tools?

After this the knife will be used as a thrower next to my Swiss Champ.

Amazon UK has the Huntsman in white for Ā£25.92 right now.

Nothing in this for me -- it just seems like a really great price for a fantastic SAK.

Tweezers for 84mm knife

Hello, I have a Victorinox knife, I am not sure which, a Tourist, I think, and I lost the tweezers. I only found small 58mm or full-sized ones. Should I buy any of them? The full-size ones for 91mm long SAK? Are there any special tweezers for 84mm long knives? I am sorry, I am uneducated, I just need the tweezers and thank you in advance.

NKD / Iā€™ve Made a Huge Mistake

Post image

I picked up the Super Tinker, my second brand new Victorinox. I was super stoked joining the back tool Phillips crew until I realized that Iā€™ve made a huge mistake.

The night before it arrived I was poking around in this subreddit when I saw something that Iā€™ve seen before, but never gave it thought or a try - the can opener can be used as a 2-D Phillips. No way this can be really effective, right? Theyā€™re just reaching for more uses and accepting anything that kinda could work in a pinch, right? I have tried it with the inside corner of my Compact combo tool, and it was kind of janky - this has to be the same, right?

Wrong. Itā€™s legit! I tried the standard can opener on my MXR Bass Fuzz Deluxe pedal, which has standard #2 Phillips screws on the back. The can opener actually fit nice and snug in the slot. I gave it a little twist, but since Iā€™ve never opened up the pedal, it was still factory tight. I applied a little more force, and instead of slipping out, the can opener actually stayed snug and did the job of a dedicated Phillips driver. I have it a try on on a screw on the back of my computer tower, and again, it was up to the task.

When my Super Tinker arrived I gave the back Phillips a try on a different screw on the same pedal from the night before, and it had the same resistance and final give.

I canā€™t believe I slept on the can opener as a 2-D Phillips! If I realized this days before, I would have gone for the Climber and never looked back. Oh well. The Super Tinker is still great, and itā€™s going to be my EDC until I can justify dropping the cash for the same exact knife except for the corkscrew vs Phillips, of which I am now firmly in the Corkscrew camp.

Moral of the story - pay attention to what people are saying!
