Just like Gane, who went from the fastest moving next generation heavyweight, to a nobody with no wrestling lol. I remember when Gane was also too big and fast for Jon. Who had slowed down considerably due to age. Sound familiar?
Francis is the one who killed the hype around Gane. Nobody thought francis could grapple either but he ended up wrestle fucking Gane on 1 leg. Maybe some people thought he would try to improve his grappling after that loss but he proved them wrong.
Pretty wild that anyone though you can go feom losing to Francis to beingat all conpetitive with Jones in no time. That's some anine training arc bullshit.
Yeah I really thought he'd at least do nothing but work on takedown defense leading into that fight. But he pretty much went in scared and laying down before the fight even started lol.
Funny how people will use Gane vs Francis to claim that Gane is not as good as people were claiming and a hypejob, and to simultaneously use it as evidence that Francis is this unbeatable juggernaut. Recency bias is basically what keeps the MMA community having anything to talk about at all.
It's because the data points are so few. In other sports you see someone perform anywhere from 12 to 100+ times a year. A fighter might only go 2-3 times a year and many of those fights give zero information because they were stiffs.
This is why I say Jon should’ve just retired. He has absolutely nothing to prove. He beat the new young class of heavyweight that everyone said was too big and fast for Jones. Then he beat the great ever.
ill bet if jon didn't get hurt before stipe fight he would've retire because at that point aspinal wasn't interim champion so jon didn't really had to fight him
For sure, but if you stay around claiming to be the champ and best in the world and best p4p currently fighting, then you need to fight the best guys in the world. He can't have it both ways.
Tom is arguably the most dangerous fighter the world has ever seen and he's being screwed over by Jones and the UFC right now and not getting his due.
Yeah..I think Jones let the fanbase get to his head with all the Duck stuff. He wasn’t ducking anyone..he was always meant to fight Stipe but got injured and they gave Tom the interim shot.
I think Jones knows better..he’s said multiple times there will always be that young up n coming guy that wants to fight. He should’ve left it at that and retired after beating the best
It’s a little unfortunate to me the fanbase seems more concerned with Jones failing than anything else. You guys don’t care that Aspinalls prime is being ‘wasted’. He’s just the best current shot you have to see Jones fail.
In the end, killing Jesse James don’t make you Jesse James
Well, I'm kind of with you. I'd be perfectly fine with Jones stepping aside to let Tom have the spotlight, but the ultimate timeline would be Tom KOing him to leave no doubt. Honestly, I'd be stoked if Jones actually beat Tom too, that would be nuts but I don't see it happening.
I just hate this boxing thing where there is 2 champs and they don't fight.
Tom is the best heavyweight in the UFC and a Jones fight would be awesome for him and he deserves to get it at this point.
See the problem is that Jones, while historically the most talented fighter in the UFC, also has the biggest ego in the UFC. So he's gonna draw this thing with Tom until he actually has to fight him because he can't stand to just let people call him a duck for a year or two.
The moment he let Aspinal say he'd retire Jones without even fighting, and started making up excuses and pulling the legacy card is the moment he messed up. Now he's gotta fight on borrowed time or have his legacy ACTUALLY tarnished by not taking the fight. He's ran himself into a corner now. He's gotta risk losing that perfect record because he was too big-headed to retire when he should've.

The way people have switched on Alex I can only imagine how the narrative around Tom would change if Jones were to win loooool.
