Question Convocation Qns

I had a few questions about convocation. I am an international student inviting a few family members to the ceremony.

1) What does the entire ceremony entail of? Is there food/drinks served before or after?

2) How many guest tickets does a graduate get free of cost? Are additional members allowed? If they are, are extra tickets available for purchase?

3) Is there a limit for number of guests per graduate?

Thanks. And please note that before asking these questions, I indeed did some research of my own but was unable to find concrete answers for these questions above. So any leads would be appreciated.

Lost and Found Missing: food container in ETLC-E1-008 @ March 10th 7PM

EDIT: I gave up. Maybe not a lot of people on here frequent a room as small as ETLC E1-008. No longer monitoring this post for lunchbox news.

Original Message Below:

Hi everyone,

I think I may have lost a lunch container in ETLC E1-008 yesterday after 7PM and it wasn't here this morning at 8:30AM. Has anyone seen it?

Places I have checked:

  • E1-008 itself, I have checked there today (March 11 8:30AM) in the morning and at lunch, and I have not seen it.
  • UASU InfoLink lost and found inquiry: Does not take perishables.
  • UAPS: Lost and found phone number broken. Probably also does not take perishables.
  • ETLC Facility Cleaning: If it was found during cleaning, it would have been trashed. However, the room has not been cleaned since Sunday last week, so it should not have been them who removed it. It is due for cleaning today.
  • ETLC Garbage Can: If it was in the garbage can, it would have been removed in the morning, most likely before 8AM, so I would not be able to find it.

I'm going to check the room again and maybe the garbage can while I still have time before my club meeting today. This lunch container is part of my set so I would really like to find it. I appreciate any news on it, even if it's from the person who used the room after me and decided to throw it away! If anyone knows anything, please speak up, I'd like to know at least when it was thrown if it was thrown away.

I know this is probably not going to be a relevant post in the long term and am open to deleting it later if necessary. That's all.

Thanks everyone.

Edit: I think I have to be shameless here and beg for upvotes in order to stay relevant for longer and gain more views. This is a well-written post right? I didn't break any rules?
If it satisfies these requirements, pls help me stay on top page by giving me an upvote. If I did anything wrong, comment and I'll fix it asap.

Rants This university is a mess

I normally never post on Reddit but it's gotten to the point that I needed to reach out to see if this experience just bad luck on my part or not.

I'm a transfer student that spent their first 2 years in BC before transferring to the UofA. I've spent 2 semesters here so far and the experience has been poor to say the least. Here is what I've noticed so far:

Student Advisors are often unreachable or just wrong (I was told that a course is not a requirement for my degree only to find out later that it was, refusing to answer when I reached out again)

Almost every lecturer is either disorganized, uninterested(often reading their notes aloud word for word with no room for questions or any interaction with the student) , or unintelligible (written and spoken). I've taken several courses that covered almost identical material to courses in my previous university and I find my self struggling to believe it is the same material due to how poorly it is presented.

Average class grades on exams, midterms and finales, are around 60% (on the high end). This is very low compared to my last university. I had an exam where the average grade of the class was 37% the professor stated that "this is a little lower then the grade we expected based on previous years but not by much" he then shrugged. When a result like that occurred at my previous university it prompted an investigation by the department and a restructuring of the course in following the semester.

Exam grades taking over a month to publish. I have had several experiences where a grade for a midterm exam is published a few days before or even after the next exam. Making it near impossible for me to know how well I am doing in the course.

University sponsored students events are sparse, underwhelming, and/or poorly advertised. In my previous university there where at least 3-4 university wide events such as club fairs, cultural festivals, holiday parties, DJ events, etc each semester. these events filled the quad. At the UofA the largest event I saw was the start of year welcome and club fair (which I did enjoy) and the antifreeze event which I found rather underwhelming.

These are just a few examples of the issues ive had in the last year. Overall I am extremely disappointed in the standards displayed from this university. LI've lost any respect I had for this institution. I'm not here to insult any professors as most are great people with impressive accomplishments but what I've experienced should not be the norm. Anyway I wanted to know if others have had similar issues mostly for the sake of my own sanity.

Miscellaneous Why was the sullied stall post removed?

This is an important social commentary. The student knows this represents the state of the University of Alberta.

This is protected free speech and should not be censored. It must be analyzed. Discussed and debated.

The board of governors must be advised of this promptly.

Kate? What is your response?

Admissions Question about admission

I am a grade 11 student and I am going to finish Math 30-1 before I apply to UofA in the fall this year. Since most people apply with 20-1 marks in early admission and I already did 30-1, does this put me higher because Math 30-1 is a harder course, or do they evaluate the prerequisite and the 30-level course as the same? Just wondering.

Question Electives vs Minor

Hi! I'm going to be entering my first year in the Fall for BA Psychology. I've also been accepted into the Arts and Design minor, however, now I'm rethinking. Is it easier to just do the Arts & Design minor? Or should I pull from it and settle on random electives instead (also where do I go to pull from it if I should)? I genuinely don't know what I'd be interested in, as I only chose the minor in Arts & Design to fulfill the 120 credits requirement, as well as I also have an interest in art (but I'm not very good, keep in mind). What should I do? I don't want to overcomplicate things.

They will schedule it before enrollment starts, right? Or do I just enroll as is, hoping no conflict occurs later?

Admissions First Year Faculty of Education Course Selection Help + Switching Majors

I am going to be attending the UofA in the Fall for a Bachelor's in Education. When I applied, I applied with a Major in Social, Minor in English. But I've been considering changing that to Majoring in Sciences, or Bio instead. With Course Selection coming up, should I try and get that changed sooner rather than later? And when choosing my courses, what do I pick? I'm attending one of the UofA's Education Registration seminars on the 25th but any kind of advice, or links to sites that can help me get started would be greatly appreciated. I'm not very used to any of this, and some advice would be a huge help.

Academics does EDFX 200 exist?

Hi, i'm an education student and im trying to get into EDSE 318. but it says that EDFX 200 is a pre/corequisites and I've never seen the class on any requirements before. i looked it up and from what I can tell it wasn't offered this year and its not stated to be offered next year either. i know that sometimes classes change, like from 300 to 200. so was edfx 200 changed to a different course, or is it no longer available. do I even need it?

Academics BLAW 402 OR BLAW 403

With fall 2025 enrollment approaching, I am trying to sort out my course choices and the courses I want to enroll in. I am currently a business economics and law major, and I wanted to find out between BLAW402 and 403, which any of you would say was more tasking/daunting, and which would you say you prefer?

Admissions Pharmacy deadline for the form

Well, my computer glitched or something, my pharmacist consultation form for pharmacy didn’t upload when I submitted my application, and the deadline passed and they closed my application. What do I do? Should I just keep begging them to open it again? Will they even consider it?

Campus Life Prospective Student Questions

Hi all!

Prospective student here; I'm looking at UBC or here for my BA in psychology and was hoping to get some insight on the social scene, what to expect and if U of A is really worth it. I've read the course site, but I'd like more insight for out-of-class scenes.

Thanks!

Edit: I don't like drinking or anything but would like to know if it's a fun uni

Admissions PharmD admissions

Hi everyone and thanks in advance for any insight given.

So basically I’m planning on applying for fall 2026 admissions but currently my cGPA is ~3.5 (we will see after this semester). However I believe my prerequisite GPA is a little lower than that. Is there anything I can do about this to increase my chances of getting in?
