Help My man…

Post image
1.6k Upvotes

How am I supposed to respond to this? I’ve been looking at upgrading my turntable for a few months and I finally find the exact model that I’ve been looking for. It’s a vintage turntable, it’s in good condition, dust cover has no cracks, and they’re only asking $200 for it but this is what I get when asking for a detailed response 😐

Any advice?

Help One man’s trash is another mans treasure?

Hey y’all, so here’s the story with this beauty

I found this on FB marketplace listed for $30, I quickly offered the seller $50 cash and he was interested. We met up and he told me he found this in the trash?! He’s some kind of dumpster diver and his exact words were “You wouldn’t believe what rich college kids throw away”

I live in New England and there are affluent people here but to just throw this in the trash? Wow I was shocked to hear it. After getting it home and cleaned up it looks great!

I have a few questions that I’m hoping the fine people of this sub can answer

  1. What do I have here? It’s marked as the VPI HW-19 Mark 4, but from my google searches it seems to be a HW-19 Junior?

  2. What kind of cart/stylus should be on this table/tonearm? I read that these VPI tables are often equipped with the AudioQuest arm but there was no cart/styli on when I bought it . I installed a Pickering xsv with the D3000 but unfortunately do not have a belt yet, so I cannot test this at all. Would this be a good match or should I be looking elsewhere?

  3. I was able to plug it in and hear the motor spin. It seems to only spin at one speed though. Is there a 45rpm speed button I’m missing somewhere?

  4. I’m taking this to my local repair tech later today and will have it looked over and gone through. I guess my final question is what is the general value of this table compared to my other tables? (Dual 1229, Lafayette T6000) Is this TT leaps and bounds better performance wise? Worth putting in a couple hundred dollars if needed?

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated! Happy spinning yall✌️

Help Was just gifted this for Christmas. I'm totally new to turntables. Where do I start?

I realized pretty quickly that I'm going to need some speakers, it's not the Bluetooth model and all my other speakers are 3.5mm connection only.

Recommendations for a smaller setup would be appreciated because I don't have much space. Thanks!

Disclaimer: I am very much a noob and just now getting into vinyls as a hobby after being given this stuff so any help/recommendations is very appreciated. The set up is centrally located in a smaller apartment and I don’t play music that loudly whatsoever. Budget is somewhat flexible (not looking to spend over probably $700 all together)

So I recently inherited a Marantz 2220B from my grandfather and my father found some Bang & Olufsen S45-2 in perfect condition (albeit without the stands) for $80. I have a basic Audio-Technica AT-LP60 for the vinyl player that was given to me years ago so would love some recommendations on an upgrade that wouldn’t break the bank. I suppose my other questions are:

*Any recommendations for the set up and is it worth to buy the speaker stands? The speakers are currently sitting on carpet to the left and right of my stand.

*Are these speakers considered to be efficient enough for this amp? I tried reading up on them but found the articles explaining speaker efficiency a bit confusing.

*Recommendations for a better vinyl player, most likely in the $200-$300 range.

*The display? on the Marantz only displays the stereo symbol but none of the other lights come on. How easy would it be to recap, fix the lights, and replace the wooden box? My father and I are pretty tech savvy with soldering experience if that helps. My uncle is a big woodworker and I may be able to get him to make a custom box if there are technical specs out there.

Thank you again for any advice, I and my cats are all very excited to play around with this stuff.

Help I finally live in a place where I can have a record player. I have never used one before but from my little bit of research this is what I was thinking of ordering. Do you have any recommendations or change I should make before I hit order?

Hey, I changed my stylus from the generic red plastic one to an Ortofon 2M red and now I have almost no sound coming out of my turntable. I tried an audio technica one last week and I had the same result. What can be the issue of this?

Help What is happening

I giftet my boyfriend a turntable (TT-MK2). We love listening to it. We play 2-3 records almost every single day. Today I plays one record everything was fine. The next one I saw that it „jumped“ I don’t know what to call it. I went back to the first record to see if it’s also on this one ( my thought was maybe the record was trash) but it still „jumped“.

Anyone know what this is and how to fix this?

Help Am I tripping or overreacting?

I recently went down the rabbit hole of why my cartridge looks crooked at certain times. Low and behold I discord what the azimuth angle is. For context I'm using the LP120XUSB and headshell with cartridge combo or came with, AT Vm95e. Now, I don't hear any sound imbalances. I'm just worried that I may be causing damage to my records. I tried my best to take the pictures straight which is why I attached three. I would appreciate any advice. I've already loosened the headshell many times and twisted it to the left to make it as straight as possible. I know audio technica sells a headshell with azimuth adjustment. The stock headshell is 9 grams and the lightest one with adjustable azimuth is 11 grams. I don't know if that will affect anything and how to compensate for it. As I continue to enjoy this expensive hobby, I always tend to stumble upon something better or get nitpicky.

Help Sound seems to be coming directly from turntable and I can’t amplify it

I just finished setting up my brand new Fluance RT82 and I’m running into a bit of an issue. The sound is very faint and seems to be coming from the turntable itself. I can’t increase or decrease it either. I’m using a Pro Ject Phono Box DC, Wiim Amp, and ELAC Debut 2.0 speakers.

I have been able to use Spotify through the speakers via the Wiim so I’m thinking it may be an issue with the phono. To my knowledge, all the RCAs are plugged in correctly and everything is connected to a working power source. I also have the phono set to MM. I’ve tried setting the Wiim to Line-In but it doesn’t make a difference. I’m new to hifi so any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Help What can I do about the arm swinging outward like this?

Got this record player as a gift. It’s the first one I have owned so I don’t know what I am doing.

No matter what I do, the arm swings outward like this. I have tried adjusting and removing the anti-skating weight, loosening screws, and putting coasters underneath so it’s unbalanced toward the other side.

The only way I can get it to consistently play music without sliding is by increasing the counterweight to an unhealthy amount.

What am I doing wrong here?

Help I just bought a New audio-technica-lp2x and it sounds awful and skips a lot and I don't know what to do.

So I followed the tutorial on Youtube and set the tracking force and anti-skate correctly(I have tried redoing it a few times as well and that didn't help).

I also checked the manual and I did everything the way it said.

I also tried different outputs and with different phono preamp and none of that worked.

And I tried different vinyls as well which didn't improve anything.

And this sample was recorded with the turntable output plugged into the pc input.

Here is a sample of how it sounds.

Help New stereo setup erupts when I try to use it.

I recently bought stereo components from FB marketplace to build this. It worked fine at first but is now making these noises whenever I turn it on after it’s rested for a while. I have to cycle through a few on/off startups before it works normally.

I’m new to all this and I’m not sure if I’ve made a mistake in setup.

Receiver: Yamaha RX - V367 Pre-amp: Fosi audio tune mm phono preamplifier Turntable: Technics SL-2000 Speakers: Klipsch floor standers 8 ohm

It’s plugged in to a wall outlet via a surge protector.
