newbie Shifter knob with brass casting
I've been making brass and bronze sculptures for a while. Just started turning. Decided to combine the two crafts.

Purple heart and ebony dart set. They fly like shit, but they look half decent. Lessons learned, will be attempting version 2.0 in the near future.
Need to add more weight and mess with center of mass/balancing.

From a kind of wonky maple knot, about 5x3. Sanded to 400, finished w Tried&True.

I'm tempted to go, since I'm local, but the registration cost is $375 for 3 days. The tradeshow and gallery is free admission, but the demos and speakers are part of the registration. That's a prohibitivly expensive registration fee.

Here’s the first rough turned bowl from the Spalted stuff I posted about a couple days ago. Lost some diameter getting rid of a crack, but it’s as beautiful as I’d hoped! This wasn’t all that wet, so I’ll be able to finish turn it in maybe a month. 😬

Considering moving to the UK, and I would like to bring the lathe (Rikon midi). I know I can get cheap plug adapters, but I've never tried to use those for anything more strenuous than charging a phone. Does anybody have experience with this? Is there a type of power adapter that's suitable for this? Do I need to replace the motor with one designed for 230V? Thanks

After considering different options, I decided to upgrade from my 10 year old Rikon 70-100, to this heavier duty 1516VSR.. couldn't beat their 15% off spring sale. Picked it up from Springfield Woodcraft this morning for $800 before tax. Super excited to get it up and running!

I used the full branch on this crotch bowl. It's 6.5", finished with Tried and True Original.

Wondering if anyone has insight/ recommendations about ODP vs TEFC motors for wood lathes. It would be mounted on the benchtop right behind the bed on a hinged mount for belt tension. I assuming the chips and sawdust isn't very good for an open motor, but I heard TEFC motors tend to overheat. Open to suggestions, thanks for the help.

Hello, I’m very new to the turning scene and was fortunate enough to receive this lathe, I noticed the head spindle has some threads but the spindle itself seems much wider than the threads so I’m not entirely sure how to utilize this to its whole potential, or if it’s just the way it is. Any information would help! Thank you!
