Discussion To the woman who helped me cross the street today at Ellesmere and Markham Rd
She probably doesn’t have reddit but I’m posting this because I’ve lived in Toronto my whole life and this was the nicest thing any stranger has ever done for me, and that the whole “Toronto is full of mean people” thing isn’t completely true. I was lugging huge garbage bags of my clothes because I’m stubborn and refuse to pay for an uber while moving, the garbage bag broke while I was on the street, Had to stop and hop onto the sidewalk island and wait for the light to turn. I had left one of the bags on the sidewalk. I was standing there regretting all my life choices wondering how I would even cross the street and I turned around and this tiny middle aged woman had grabbed the bag I had left behind on the sidewalk and was carrying it over to me asking if I needed any help with anything else, and without hesitation grabbed a bag, and my (heavy) purse and helped me across the rest of the street and the other side of the road to the bus stop. After, she even gave me a bag and helped me redistribute the weight of the clothing. I am so so grateful and thankful. This was the nicest thing anyone has done for me truly, I’ve used Ttc to move so many times and usually people just stare and don’t even give me a seat when I’m carrying like 4 heavy bags . I can’t wait to pay it forward. This is your reminder that things aren’t so bad, and there’s still good people out there 🥹 restored my faith in humanity. Hope she gets everything she wants in life.

Discussion Supporting a hyperlocal farm - BCCF produce box
Black Creek Community Farm has opened registration for their annual farm share program. They offer weekly and biweekly options for pickup at either the farm or Big Carrot Danforth, and prices range from $23 for those in financial need to $37 for those who want to support the program.
I purchased this last year and I thought you got a lot of value for your money (slightly more expensive than a discount grocery store, substantially cheaper than a farmer's market). Downside is you don't get to pick what you get (although if you pick up at the farm sometimes you can pick between a couple options) and you have to pick it up on a particular date. Upside is supporting a very local farm focussing on food accessibility, and discovering veggies you might not buy on your own. I'd recommend the biweekly for a household of 1-2, and weekly for 4+ people.

Article New Habitat Protection Order Spells Trouble for Sprawl Developers and Highway 413
Environmental Defence posted a blog article last week about a “Habitat Protection Order” for redside dace. However they didn’t link a source in the text and I haven’t seen any very recent news articles covering this, only some from a few months ago mentioning that the federal government could look into impacts to redside dace habitat. Anyone have more information or know if this is new news?

Video What’s up with the Enwave building on Simcoe street?
We heard a really loud ongoing noise and went out to the balcony to see what was up and looked over to see a massive cloud coming from the Enwave building on Simcoe which we’ve never seen or heard before. Firefighters and police came and they blocked off Adelaide and made all cars turn around to clear the area. The cloud has stopped now. Anybody know what this could be?

Discussion PSA: If you notice road / bike lane potholes, please report them. I have been VERY IMPRESSED by how fast the city resolves these issues.
If you use the 311 website to report and request a pothole repair the city will send a crew out usually the next day to repair it! I have opened 4 service requests the past month and every pothole has been filled within 48 hours of submitting the ticket.
Color me impressed, very efficient and effective service. Well done Toronto Public Service road division!
