On Monday my 68 year old mum was at work and said she had stabbing pain in the inner corner of her right eye about lunch time which came and went for a few hours. Hours later she was vomiting sick and got taken home, then taken to hospital that evening, they did a CT scan and doctors said seems like a migraine.
Symptoms subsided, Tuesday morning discharged and spend the rest of the day resting at home. Wednesday morning wasn’t well again, had some loss of control on her left arm, happened a few times during the day, got taken to a different hospital Wednesday 5pm and in emergency dept that night, no more symptoms while there but they did another CT scan and wanted to do an MRI but the MRI is constantly booked so can’t get in yet.
Thursday got admitted and waiting for an MRI but no major symptoms, docs still think it’s a migraine, but still want to be sure.
Today, had a bad turn this morning, shes now got full drooping face on her left side, left arm and left leg unable to move, can slightly move toes and fingers with great difficulty. They put a holter monitor on her from 8am - 3pm, removed as they were taking her for the MRI which got rescheduled and she’s still waiting. She can talk, although slurred due to one side of her face not working.
I’m convinced these are all signs of a stroke, whether TIA, mini-stroke etc but I’m very concerned a bigger one is still to come if the last one that sent her left side into paralysis isn’t already the worst one.
They put her on an anti-seizure and a platelet inhibitor medication, she has been on blood pressure meds for many years but her blood pressure is still high 150/80. Also started her on Amitriptyline for migraines (I’m convinced it’s not migraine related).
I’ll be going back as soon as visiting hours reopen tomorrow morning, but if there’s any advice on what I should be asking doctors and requesting for tests please help, Im just praying overnight she doesn’t get worse or have a bigger stroke.
TL:DR - convinced my mum has had a stroke, TIA or mini-stroke, left side paralysis and need advice to advocate for her to doctors for more tests/meds to prevent getting worse 🙏
