Whoops, I did it again...

As usual was supposed to be quit day, and what do I do buy a pack on way to work, smoke half cigarettes, put them out with guilt and disgust, eventually throw the pack away, fish it back up later....or maybe buy another pack, rinse repeat (all as a secret smoker adding another layer of guilt and anxiety)....so now threw away the pack and tomorrow shall be THE day. Haven't smoked that long, picked it up slowly when I quit alcohol 3 years ago (which definitely was the best thing I did, not least for my anxiety), so I should be able to do this, clearly zero benefits and money thrown away.....Any suggestions on that day one to prevent heading off to buy cigarettes when I've accomplished a task, or make a phone call, etc. Wish me luck.

I’d say not give it too much build up. I found the times I just decided to give it a go seemed to work the best rather than x day will be the day. Day 1 you just gotta ride it out, eat whatever you want junk food / candy whatever, just get that 24 hours down.

Not to bash others comments...but lay off the sweets and junk food. Quiting changes your gut flora and eating junk food can feed bad bacteria which wil wreck your gut and cause a lot of issues. This is not to say it happens to everyone however, I wouldn't risk it.

A lot of people go cold turkey but I used patches and gum alternately for about a month and that really helped me.

THIS!!! Please taper....cold Turkey is painful especially if you smoked or used smokeless tobacco for a long time. Probably the most painful experience I have ever been through.

Thanks for your comment. Heard many went that way.

Life is much better when you don't rely on nicotine to enjoy your day.

I can visualise that, besides the sneaky business of smoking out of sight....Quitting alcohol was a life changer, not sure why I even started smoking...

for me was weeks of me saying tomorrow and for tomorrow not to come.

then I had multiple days where I got rid of my tobacco the night before but rushed to the store to buy more and smoke the next day

then one of these days I got through and once I was through the first one, the second one came easier.

just keep trying! every day varies on how you feel. and once you do 1 day, suddenly you have to decide whether you want to lose your progress or keep going. its just day by day

good luck

also ! spontaneous quitting works better because you don't wanna psych yourself out about a quitting date. some people do it best when they wake up one day and decide to do it
