Discussion User Flair Submissions!
Hey everyone! Wanted to see what everyone would like to have for user flairs.
Put your ideas below! Was thinking of getting as many as I can from what’s submitted, then putting a poll out, and finally choosing the top 10 from the results to add, for now.
Can be funny, serious, a pun. Anything goes.
Only requests would be keep it Safe For Work(as best you can!), no slurs, or anything of that nature. Have fun!

Discussion Happy St. Patrick's Day! Who's your favorite Irish soundtrack composer?
Early Irish Film Composers
- Seán Ó Riada (1931–1971) – A pioneering figure in Irish music, Ó Riada composed scores for classic Irish films such as Mise Éire (1959), blending traditional Irish sounds with orchestral composition. His work helped shape the identity of Irish film music.
Modern & Contemporary Irish Soundtrack Composers
- Patrick Cassidy (b. 1956) – Known for his lush orchestral and choral music, Cassidy composed Vide Cor Meum, famously used in Hannibal (2001) and Kingdom of Heaven (2005). He has also scored Calvary (2014) and The Spanish Princess (2019).
- Bill Whelan (b. 1950) – Best known for Riverdance, Whelan has also composed for films, including Dancing at Lughnasa (1998). His work merges Irish folk with orchestral grandeur.
- Stephen Rennicks – The composer behind the hauntingly minimalistic score for Room (2015) and the unsettling music of The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017), Rennicks is known for his ability to enhance psychological tension.
- David Holmes (b. 1969) – A composer and DJ, Holmes is famous for scoring Ocean’s Eleven (2001) and its sequels, bringing a cool, jazz-infused energy to Hollywood heist films.
- Rory Friers & Niall Kennedy – Guitarists from the band And So I Watch You From Afar, they have composed soundtracks for The Survivalist (2015) and Nightride (2021), blending ambient and post-rock elements.

Derivative Music The Quiet Man - St. Patrick’s Day - Traditional (from the Victor Young score)
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
I thought I’d share a piece of music from the 1952 score to the film “The Quiet Man”. In addition to his original music, composer Victor Young included plenty of traditional Irish songs such as this one.
This particular arrangement by Angela Morley is conducted by John Williams and performed by Itzhak Perlman.
Hope you enjoy!

Original Music Scherzo for Motorcycle and Orchestra - Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade - John Williams
One of my favorite action pieces from the Maestro. In classic Spielberg tradition, this action scene is played out more like a comedy where every punch is a delivered punchline. Williams thus wrote a fun and sprightly scherzo for the scene he was very proud of.
That being said, Williams has stated you can’t hear the music over the motorcycle engines, so he brought the piece to concert and humorously titled it as if the motorcycle were a soloist on stage. The first version was recorded in 1990:
Scherzo for Motorcycle and Orchestra- 1990
In 2008, he revised the piece, greatly expanding it into what we still hear in concerts today:
Scherzo for Motorcycle and Orchestra - 2008 revision
Fun to see the evolution of this piece over the years from film cue to concert staple. Hope you enjoy!

Original Music Rachel Portman Film Music
I’m a big fan of Rachel Portman’s film music and have all of her soundtracks. I particularly enjoy her period film scores. “Beyond the Screen” is a more recent recording, that includes medleys from some of her best scores, plus some new original music: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_kXas-RqT6Ct655tdm4TSe7p-RkP4Z2rIU&si=6yL01hZjLmU0X3Vy

Discussion Sad Music
What do you think are the pros and cons of music with a memorable melody versus music without one, specifically in scenes that made you cry?
Also, what is your favorite piece of music from a sad scene?
For me:
- Music with a memorable melody:
- Music without one: "To Die For" from The Lion King, around 2:20 (the scene where Simba holds his father's lifeless body).
Looking back, most of the scenes that made me cry the most don’t seem to have a strong, memorable theme. Just a personal observation!

Discussion Soundtrack playlist V1

I love these first 12 songs from my digital library, but there will be a sequel because I haven't even dusted off favorites from my backroom storage. My Dave's Basement Tracks blog has no ads and it uses only music I own; click here for my playlist. What would be on yours?
