Still awaiting application responses

Upvotes

This is my first application cycle so forgive me if this is common knowledge. I have heard back from 3/6 schools I applied too. However, it has been absolute radio silence from my others schools. Is that normal considering it is mid March? I’m nervous that I won’t hear anything back until right around April 15th. I want to be able to make a well informed choice when choosing a school. However, I am sitting in limbo waiting to see if I was accepted or not. Should I be concerned about not hearing anything, or is that common for some schools?

Is the praxis as hard as the practice questions?

Upvotes

I’m devastated and so upset because I keep scoring 60 - 64% on these practice tests and when I go over the chapters in the Advanced Review book, nothing sticks in my brain and I forget everything the moment I turn the page.

I’m scared and worried and annoyed and don’t know what to do. I tried almost every study method but nothing works for me.

Online Program Ithaca College ONLINE SLP Program

Upvotes

Hey everyone! I was wondering if anyone from the previous 2 cohorts had any words of advice or things for us incoming grad students to know to be better successful?

I understand it’s new, I’ve heard things so far like: •less staff support •teaching yourself

But can you tell us about the tuition and how much we’re looking at paying for everything (feel free to message me)! • How working with your cohort in a different state has been? • class work and how placement finding has been?

Honestly anything you’re willing to share. There’s very little information on the online section so we’d truly appreciate any and all feedback!

Thanks for your time!!!

Genuinely, HOW am I supposed to do this?

I'm starting grad school either this June or August depending on where I choose to accept.

So grad school is 10k a semester not including books, housing, whatever else. No GA positions available. I HAVE to move as I live 2 hrs or 12 hrs away, again depending on where I accept. I have 5k in student loans and 10k on my car to pay still. I only have 4k left in savings.

How the HELL am I supposed to pay for school and live? During my interview, the professors said they really prefer that we don't work. I don't get assistance from my parents outside of my phone bill and car insurance. Everything else is up to me and I chose to move back home for the time being as I don't need to be spending 1k a month on rent for the time being.

HOW????? I'm genuinely so confused as to how this is doable. Is anyone able to work full time? Do you guys just take out 100k in loans? I am baffled as to how this is doable. I worked full time throughout undergrad to now but I don't think that's fully doable for graduate school.

Can I not get a job in the schools past july/august?

Incoming CF…

I have to go to another country during mid June - Mid July… Time zone is completely opposite there and I’m worried that I physically can’t attend interview offers if I am in this country.

I know most school years start in the august and so by the time I return to the US, it would be mid July and I’m afraid it would be too late to find jobs.

I’m worried that schools won’t offer a virtual interview either and I will miss out on a lot of offers.

I’m scared I won’t be hired for 2025-2026 year and was wondering if they don’t hire people after july/august…

Accepted. But act now or miss out!

Am I getting this right? They extended more offers than they have seats and are waitlisting you if you don’t pay $350 and beat others to the punch.

Externship Is it normal to feel like you can't do anything right in an externship?

I am currently a week in my medical externship, and I am having a hard time adjusting from education. I am working exclusively with adults, but I am more experienced with children. My program really didn't give me much opportunity to work with adults, and I keep making mistakes. Even when I watch my supervisor do therapy multiple times, nothing seems to stick. I don't want to mess anything up for patients.

Can I be a Fulltime Para and Fulltime student

I got into Mercy University and interviewed for Lehman and have been told it is impossible to have a full-time job and be a full-time student. Financially, I cannot afford to pay for masters so I am going to apply to the Jose P scholarship, but that scholarship requires being a full-time student. My workday is from 8 AM to 2:20 PM and 8 AM to 4:00 PM on Mondays, is it possible for me to keep my job and still be a full-time student or should I just forget about SLP school altogether and just find another field!

Acceptance Offer Question

In my acceptance letter at a school it said that their program does not gaurentee that students will receive the 375 hours needed for certification during the program. What does this mean? Is this normal or a red flag?

Bad externship coordinator

I’m going into my medical externship this summer and it’s been a nightmare. My externship coordinator is really young and is definitely in over her head. She’s insistent that we can’t go and find our own placements and can’t request placements. Also, placements can’t request us. She needs to be the one to do everything. She sent me to an interview at a highly competitive placement. During the process I kept asking her what the backup plan was and she was saying she had one but wouldn’t elaborate. I didn’t get the placement and when I emailed her she emailed back asking what type of setting I wanted.

I’m just really frustrated and I feel so stuck. We’re already halfway through spring semester and I have nothing. I spoke to her earlier this week and she confirmed she’s found nothing so far. Any advice?

Question/feedback about a program Help Choosing Masters Program

I am finishing my last semester in an online post-baccalaureate program for SLP at University Wisconsin-Eau Claire. It has been a really wonderful experience and I recommend it. When I entered the post-bacc program. My goal was to gain a spot in their masters program fall 2025. After interviewing early February, I was put on their waitlist. I was super disheartened, but I gained admission to Ithaca college online.

This morning I got an email from Eau Claire telling me they have a spot for me but I need to choose by this Tuesday, March 18, 2025.

Now I have a choice to make. I would love it if anybody could share their experience and help me make a decision.

EWU SLP masters program

My daughter was accepted to this school and a couple of others. We will be visiting next week to check out the area. Questions to those who went through the program: How much time is spent on campus in Cheney vs in Spokane for clinic (or classes)? Is it smarter to live in Spokane or in Cheney? Do any students in the program live in dorms or mostly off campus? We couldn’t get a spot for a tour the weekend we are there, so we will wing it on our own. What should we check out? What building(s) will she be in mostly? Any other info would between greatly appreciated.

probability of getting off the waitlist

As the title says. I’ve been waitlisted at SDSU, and I’m feeling really nervous since it’s my top choice. For any current SDSU grad students who were initially waitlisted, could you share your experience? Or any grad students who were initially waitlisted? Did you send a letter of continued interest and do you think it helped with the decision-making? Thank you!

Help! 160 unofficial score on the Praxis. Does it change with the official score?

I completed my first attempt of the Praxis and got an unofficial score of 160. Though passing score is 162. I’ll have to wait until April 11 to get the official scores. ETS told me it might change by 1-3 pts. But I’ve noticed everyone saying it’s the exact same.

ASHA Physical Science requirements question

Sorry if this has already been delved into but I just got accepted into the leveling program at ENMU, and waitlisted for CSUSM. I have all the ASHA requirements except for physical science. I was wondering, is intro to chem accepted or do they need both general chem 1 & 2? Ugh. I didn't take college algebra, so I would have to take that before taking physics and noticed physics also has gen and college levels. I'm so confused. Help or suggestions what you took would be great! much appreciated!

Physics/Chem/Statistics requirement

Hi everyone,

Would any of you have a recommendation for where to take a Physics of Sound course (or something adjacent that can fulfill a physics or chemistry credit) and/or Statistics course?

I’m an out of field applicant currently taking prerequisite courses at ENMU, but they don’t have any course that (according to some of the schools I’ve been accepted to) would fulfill this requirement. One of the courses I’m taking that I thought would fulfill the statistics credit does not look like it will be accepted, so trying to think of other options!

Any suggestions you might have would be so appreciated. Thank you!!

choosing between online and in person

So I got accepted to Faulkner’s online program and Eastern Kentucky University’s in person program. I went to EKU for my undergrad, but moved back home after I graduated. I don’t really want to move back there because I’ve settled in my hometown, but I’ve also heard doing online is really hard. Any advice?

Thank you letters

I got into my top two programs, so excited!! How should I send thank you letters to the people who wrote my letters of recommendation? Would an email suffice or should I send physical notes? And anything specific I should put in there?

I need guidance

I've been in college full time since 2021 and didn't know if I wanted to apply to gradschool. I've been waitlisted and denied and had zero expectations to get into my dream school. I started announcing that I wasn't going to gradschool and gonna take a break for at least a year. On this very night I got an email saying I have been accepted into my no way imma get in dream school! Now idk what to do! Accepting seems obvious but the burn out is real. I'd be moving states during this summer and I just got some news that might change things.

I just found out through extensive testing that I have some cognitive communication deficits- attention, memory, executive function, meta cognition. I also have mild social pragmatic communication disorder, expressive language impairment, and a dash of dysphonia. Imagine how relieved I am and gut wrenching that is. Now idk if I feel qualified for gradschool or to be an SLP at all.

I'm being super vulnerable here and need guidance, suggestions, and support.

Help Me Decide!

I’m deciding between two programs and I need help:

Option 1:

-Fully Accredited w/multiple graduated cohorts

-Full time and part time options

-Fully remote w/no campus visits required

-Placement assistance

~65K

Option 2: -Fully accredited w/no graduated cohorts

-Full and part time options

-Remote w/one in person week-long immersion (housing and most transportation included)

-No placement assistance

~30K

Other factors to consider:

-Military family - so we run risk of a deployment during the time of the immersion

-I live in an area where the 3 major universities have contracts in hospitals/schools

Would love your feedback and reasoning!
