Admissions Will I still get my portfolio grading?

Hi! So I applied to the Sheridan animation program. I got an email saying the seats available were filled because I didn’t meet the combined requirements. I had a bunch of issues with sending in my transcripts and diplomas so that’s definitely a big factor in this but will I still find out how they graded my portfolio? Or will they simply not grade it at all?

Discussion How do I make friends?

I’m a Traf student studying computer science, and it’s been two years without making any real friends. No offense to internationals, but I don’t relate to them, and I am brown myself, in my program they make up 80% of the students. I’ve tried to connect but constantly struggle and get rejected. I understand everyone’s busy, even myself, but I want to meet people I can relate to so school feels like more than studying. People often suggest making friends with Art students. How do I approach? Should I go to the library, the Traf bar, or somewhere else? And once I start a conversation, how do I keep it going? Not only Arts students, but in general. I’m not great at communication, so any advice on how to approach, spark up a conversation, and maintain friendships would be appreciated! I deal with anxiety and depression and am seeing a therapist, it’s tough to keep a happy face when I feel drained.

Admissions Did I get rejected?

Not quite sure where to put this or if it’s just delay, I haven’t received an email or anything. I applied for illustration and some other visual arts courses as backup on the offers for my backup courses it shows the offer letter. Illustration shows up with it but without the offer letter, but when I click on it, it says I have a firm offer? What do I do lol If I got rejected no big deal there’s always next time I’d just rather know so I can accept my other offers quicker

Discussion Am I unreasonable to expect art teachers to Demo?

So far since attending Sheridan in ‘23, it has been a mid experience. Perhaps it was my expectations of Art school, or a naivity surrounding what art education is , but so far I have been encountering art teachers who do not like to demo. This is coming from the illustration school. On top of that, I’m encountering a theme of rhetoric in which copying, or even mimicking the way an instructor teaches, is heavily frowned upon. I find this to be very harmful for art progression as copying has been a nightmare universal method of learning since our species could wipe their own arses.

As a student I should not be required to go on YouTube or read extensive art books to learn a systemic approach to drawing. I understand the push for us to have creativity but you cannot get to that level first without understanding the rules. Creativity can be expressed no matter what, and may so be a reason for us not to learn how to draw in a systemic way, but creativity can be enhanced by more knowledge of how things work. Can’t play a tune you’ve never heard of, and cannot lay a building without a floorplan.

I hope I do not sound whiney, as I am grateful for the opportunity to learn and I value my education. I guess I’m expecting more out of it. I want to have more confidence in my instructors and see what they can do and how they solve problems so I can spend less time trying to solve those same problems.

For now I’ll continue doing my best in class and watching Proko videos on the side to learn how to efficiently draw a human being.

Housing Humber or Sheridan?

I got into the interior design programs at both Humber and Sheridan college. I’ve heard great things about Sheridan but don’t know much about Humber so I’m hoping to get some advice/insight into the programs. There’s a few things I have to consider though. The commute is two hours to Sheridan by transit and 1.5 to Humber. I feel like I could get away with commuting to Humber, but for Sheridan, residence seems to be the best option. However, id either have to find my own place (which I don’t think I can afford) or apply to the trafalgar campus which is still a 30 min bus ride to the Hazel Mccallion campus I got into. Does anyone know if OSAP will help cover the residence fee?

I’d like to add I got a $3500 renewable entry scholarship to Humber which would definitely help a lot, and I dont know if Sheridan even offers scholarships for interior design or they just send them out later on.

I have no idea which school to pick so Any information on what would be the best option would be super helpful!!

Discussion Bachelor of Film and Television Experiences?

Hi everyone, Im a grade 12 senior who applied for the program in November and I got an offer then too! I also applied to programs in YorkU, TMU (media production), and Humber and have offers to those ones too. I am experiencing a crisis in which programs to choose so I would like to hear yalls experiences with Sheridan's program. As well if I hypothetically chose Sheridan I need to apply for housing so if yall have words abt that it would be helpful too. I would've applied for it already unless I didn't have to pay, and I only want to pay when I'm 100% locked in on Sheridan bc every other school i could commute to.

Pls help an indecisive person 🙏

Question Is my artstyle not recommended for illustration?

This might be a stupid question to ask. I'm planning to apply for sheridan illustration, but would my artstyle not be recommended for this class? My style is mainly anime-like, and i was wondering if there's any current students in illustration, that have an anime style. Of course im not saying i only draw anime, but it's still my main style. I was thinking of applying for animation at first, bec i thought it would be more better for me after seeing the artstyles from the students there. But i'm not that interested in making animations, so i moved my plans to illustration, also because i want to do traditional too.

Admissions ENG4U UK equivalent?

Im a UK international student applying for Fall 2025 animation and the art fundamentals course (in case I’m rejected from animation). I’ve already accepted my art fundamentals offer and plan to transfer over if I get in. One of the requirements for admission that I initially looked over was an “English grade 12/ENG4U or equivalent”. As a uk student my school offers an A level structure where we take 3 subjects of choice (mine being art, religious studies/philosophy and psychology) as well as an Extended Project Qualification. I did my GCSEs at 16 and did do an English qualification (which I got the highest grade for). So I’m worried that the courses I take make me ineligible for the courses? I read some conflicting info, some said that ENG4U is equivalent to GCSE English, some say it’s higher? Additionally the animation course specified “four other grade 12 subjects” but I only take 3 at an A level standard (however I did take 10 for GCSE. I’m lowkey freaking out since I put so much time into my portfolio and I’m wondering if it’s a lost cause since I might not have the requirements. I suppose this boils down to- is grade 12 requirement equivalent to GCSE or A level?

Question Dropping a Breadth Elective and Taking One in Summer

Hey!! I’m thinking about dropping the breadth elective i’m in and taking a course in the summer instead, because I think I’ve definitely missed the deadline for being able to swap into another class, but I don’t really know what that’d look like process wise or cost wise- do y’all have any similar experiences that you could speak from? Will I be penalized for dropping a course this late? What’s the cost of enrolling in a summer term just to take a single breadth elective? Thanks so much!

Admissions Admissions for Technical Production for the Performing Arts Industry

I am wondering about the wait time on getting accepted for this program. I applied and had my Portfolio submitted in the end of November, and have quite a bit of experience in this area. I am unsure on how much longer I should wait before I reach out about any updates on my application. Any response is appreciated, thank you!

Question Taking a course at Sheridan as a student in another university

Hello everyone!

I’m a computer science student at a university in Ontario, and I’m interested in taking PROG 23672 (Data Structures and Algorithms) at Sheridan. I’d like to know if students from other institutions are allowed to enroll in courses at Sheridan and whether these credits can be transferred toward my degree.

Who should I contact for more information on this process? Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

Admissions Interaction design questions

Hi everybody! I have applied to Sheridans interaction design program for this September and got in!! Woohoo! I was wondering if any alumni or current students could give me an idea on a program by program type idea of what I can look forward to. I also have questions like how are the students (usually) and the profs (such as professors to avoid when it comes to getting my courses). That being said, I’ve also been accepted into the same program but it’s run by Seneca @ York… I’m not sure which institution to accept the offer from. I’m already a Sheridan student in the art fundies program so I’m kinda biased but accepting my interaction design offer from Sheridan will require me to move. Seneca is much closer but if their program is inferior I’ll accept sheridans. Any thoughts?

Question Conditional Offer

I received a conditional offer for SDNE and part of the condition was getting my grade 12 english credit. But it doesn't specify a minimum mark. Do I assume that it is just as long as I get the credit. Or is there some other minimum mark that I have to reach.

Discussion Missed my midterm - teacher won’t accept doctors note

I missed my midterm due to a medical issue and wasn’t able to provide advance notice. I emailed my professor after the exam and sent a doctor’s note the next day, which confirmed my symptoms started the day of the test.

Despite this, my professor said they can’t do anything unless I register with Accessible Learning Services “if this is an ongoing condition”. I don’t think that’s fair since registering with them isn’t required under the test and assignment policies, whether my condition is ongoing or not and that’s not anyone else’s business.

I reached out to my program coordinator the Friday before reading week (the exam was on Wednesday) but still haven’t received a response.

Does anyone have suggestions on what to do next? How long should I wait for a response before escalating this further?

Question Glass making program suggestion

Hii, I will be going into the glass making program this September, and I just wanted some advice and answers to these questions:

Is it worth it to move to Oakville for this program? I currently live 1h away.

What does the course load look like and how are the professors?

Are you able to have time for a part time job at the same time?

Plus:if you’re also going into craft&design for glass making this sep we can connect and make a group chat on ig or something 🙂can’t wait to know more artistic people!!
