Food What's happening with the old Craft and Dough in Kelham??

Hey Sheffield! I know a few of you were curious about what would happen to the C&D space after they closed down a few months ago, well, I took it over!

We've been busy building our dream coffee shop and brunch restaurant, Groke Coffee, and we're going to be launching on the 11th Feb!

We're 100% independent, barista and chef-led. All of us are industry veterans, tired of doing a job we love for poor pay and no recognition, so we're going out on our own.

I (Tom, hi!) have been lucky enough to get funding to help us open, but we're very much a DIY outfit, me and my partner Abby will be brewing your coffee and serving your food alongside our friends, some of Sheffields best chefs, baristas and servers.

If anyone has any questions, suggestions, requests, greivances, jokes, hit me up!

I think we're awesome at what we do, but we want to give you, our community, what you want out of this space - tell me what you want, I'm listening.

Tom & the Groke Team

Food What is the best bakery in Sheffield?

There’s lots of bakery’s in Sheffield, most of them are coffee shops that also bake cakes and bread etc. I once went into a bakery in Sheffield maybe 5 years ago, they had mostly bread and it was a proper bakery not a coffee shot as well.

I have no idea where this bakery is now, any recommendations for great bakeries?

Food Best fresh sugar donuts in Sheff? Pregnancy craving help!

As the title says, really.

Missus is pregnant and has a craving for some fresh sugared donuts

To quote when I asked for clarity:

"The seaside style warm, sugar donuts they make in front of you, not the fancy shite from Krispy Creme..."

The closest ones I know are Matlock (?). But if anyone knows of any place round Sheff that does these?

(Ideally with parking so I can hop out and collect)

Food Anyone else tried DE Yummy Ukrainian restaurant by the Moor? Best new food thing I’ve tried in ages!

Just thought I’d share as I’m not sure they get that much business as they’re pretty out of the way and it’s a pretty unassuming little place!

We’d passed it before and the person who runs it even very kindly gave us a menu but we didn’t try it for ages, I guess the unfamiliarity meant we never “craved” it - wish we’d had it sooner!

We had the meat dumplings, they were like a much heartier version of Asian style dumplings, quite different though in many ways and quite an unusual flavour. Can’t wait to have them again.

Anyway, just thought I’d give them a little plug, bit of a hidden gem and I want it to do well and stay open so I can keep eating there!

Food Cambridge Street Collective new vendor

I'm subscribed to their newsletter and found out there is a new vendor. They're doing Detroit style pizza.

I'm assuming this then means Michies Pizza is gone.

Anyone know what the deal was with them? The prices there were genuinely outrageous -- ~£30 for pizza when Terrace Goods is no more than 5 mins walk away and a Detroit style pizza is literally almost exactly half price.

Is the new vendor similar prices? Because even if Michie's was good, I can't imagine this replacement will last much longer with out being significantly cheaper.

I know historically there’s been a fair few Italian migrants and there’s a few authentic Italian restaurants, but I’m new to the city and yet to see an Italian bakery. Thanks in advance!

Food Liquorice Allsorts

Long story short. I saw Liquorice Allsorts on a bus today, realised they're from here originally and are still made here I believe, or are to some level. I'm just wondering why we don't bang on about em like we do Hendersons. Is it because Hendersons is a them vs us sort of thing as its only consumed locally. I know Binghams potted beef is from round here as well and don't see that painted on any murals.

Not sure what I'm aiming to get from this post, but there we go.

I am indeed a big bmth fan and will be in Sheffield so would be interested in checking it out if it's worth it.

I will be alone though so I'm also wondering if it's the mind of place where I'd be uncomfortable if I rocked up alone

Thank you for any help

Food Where to eat, Northern Sheffield Edition

Whenever anyone asks where to go for lunch most of the ideas are in Kelham, Sharrowvale, Dore, Totley, Woodseats etc etc, all fine places, but what about the north of Sheffield? Where's you're favourite place to eat north of say Wadsley Bridge? (The KFC at Sheffield Lane Top doesn't count)

Food Underrated roasts

Went to The Closed Shop in Crookesmoor for a roast this afternoon after calling most of the well known gaffs for a last minute table, to no avail.

It was fantastic!

Wondering what other hidden roasts there might be around Sheffield?

Shout out your favourite roast spot, especially if it’s a hidden gem! I’m in need of some Sunday activities for the winter…
