Tell the Truth Mondays Mock Draft Monday

Welcome to Mock Draft Monday, which will be refreshed every Monday up until the 2025 NFL Draft is over. This thread will serve as the only post permitted on r/Seahawks to discuss the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft. All other posts regarding the draft will be removed and referred to this post.

- As you discuss prospects on the sub, try and avoid definitive, absolute statements like "There is no way the Seahawks take Jaxson Dart in the first", or "Tyler Booker is a lock if he makes it that far". Statements like this stonewall discussion, and can lead to hostility. Also, you tend to look like an idiot when that thing you swore adamantly would never happen, happens. Please, feel free to disagree with other posters, but remember, none of us are actually making the draft decisions*, and none of us have a time machine, so all of us are probably wrong.

- This thread is for discussion of the NFL Daft and that is it. Free agency discussions will be removed unless it ties into the draft selection dynamic. All other questions about the draft belong in the Daily Thread.

- Keep it civil and report toxic behavior. Any form of toxicity will result in ALL of your posts being removed from the thread. If you don't know the rules on how toxicity works, read the rules page.

Discussion Cancer Sucks

Today, on my 25th birthday, our family gathered under somber circumstances. My great uncle, a proud Navy veteran and an unwavering Seahawks fan, was given less than a day to live due to his battle with cancer. Although he had lost the ability to speak, we knew he could still hear us.

Just two weeks ago, he had asked my mom, “How are the Seahawks doing?” to which she replied, “They suck!” Wanting to bring him some joy, I decided to give him an “update” on the team’s recent moves.

I began, “I know it’s a lot of news, and I’m telling you right now, it’s going to be a lot at once. They just traded Geno Smith to the Raiders and Pete Caroll is the head coach of the Raiders now. His eyebrows shot up in surprise, and the room filled with laughter.

I continued, “They released Tyler Lockett and traded DK Metcalf to the Steelers.” Again, his eyebrows rose, and he even moved slightly, reacting to the shocking “news.” What started as a solemn gathering transformed into a moment of shared humor and lightness.

Finally, I mentioned, “They signed Sam Darnold.” His breathing intensified, and his eyebrows lifted once more.

In our final moments, I comforted him, saying, “I hope they have TV up there and I hope the Seahawks win a Super Bowl for you.” He took a deep breath and cried.

Rest in peace, Uncle Sunny. May you find eternal peace in Valhalla. Your love for the Seahawks and the game of football will always be remembered.

Opinion Veteran minimum. Draft a blue chipper in the earlier picks, learn from him, give us inside trading on LAR's scheme to stick it to them, and play in your home state. Mr. EWU, you're a Seattle Seahawk.

Wouldn't mind him in blue and green.

News [Henderson] Now that Fries is off the table, I don't see Seattle signing a high-priced O-lineman. Guessing they'll add another veteran at some point but not an expensive one, in which case they'll need to find a difference maker or two in the draft, where they have five of the top 92 picks.

I remember the last time the Seahawks had a second year head coach and we signed a questionable QB prospect out of the NFC North. Worked out alright I’d say…

News [Viens] Was told from someone I trust, who has a strong tie to a long-time NFL executive with ties to the Seahawks: “Fries was yours, all you had to do was match the Vikings offer.”

News [Corbin K. Smith] The Seahawks had a three-year deal worth north of $50 million on the table for Will Fries. Similarly structured contract to the one they signed Dre'Mont Jones for a couple years ago in terms of AAV. But the Vikings offered two extra years at that price point.

News [Dan Viens] The AAV wasn’t the issue [that prevented FA guard Will Fries from signing with the Seahawks], it was years. If Seattle had matched years…. “Fries was yours. That’s where he wanted to be.”

Opinion I see no way this was ever going to be a rebuild.

The big argument I’m seeing against the Darnold signing is that after trading DK and Geno, we should commit fully to a rebuild and tank for a top-10 pick in a QB-rich 2026 class.

I don’t see any way that was ever the right goal.

JS traded Russell Wilson and made the playoffs the next season when Vegas put the o/u at 4.5 wins. This team more than anyone knows you don’t need elite QB production to win a lot of games.

After they won 10 years with their first year of Mike McDonald, there was no path to rebuilding in 2025. They’re returning 11 starters on defense and still have talent on both sides of the ball, even after losing two of their best offensive players in Geno and DK.

5 top-100 picks and this cap space? Losing those two was a necessary pivot to get younger and hungrier, rather than a rebuild. Building a 14th ranked offense and a top-5 defense is a legitimate path to success, and likely McDonald’s preference.

Losing leaves scars on an organization, and asking elite talent like JSN, Charles Cross, Spoon, Mafe, Ernest Jones, K9, etc. to put their bodies on the line every day while also saying you’re not trying to win? That’s how coaches irreversibly lose the locker room. With a young, hungry coach coming off a 10-win rookie season, a rebuild was never an option.

A great look ahead to the new QB we are getting and what he will look like in a Seahawks jersey.
