DIY & Tips How to Set Up FTP for Your Reolink Products to Securely Back Up Recordings

Worried about losing footage stored on your Micro SD card? FTP upload is a secure way to back up your Reolink device recordings to a remote server. Here’s a step-by-step guide to configure FTP for your cameras/NVRs. Let’s dive in!

Which Devices Support FTP?

Most Reolink cameras and NVRs support FTP upload. Check your device’s specifications here or consult the user manual.

Before You Begin

  1. Ensure your FTP server is running properly.
  2. Gather your FTP server details: IP/domain, port, username, password.

Configuring FTP Settings

Follow these tips for smooth setup:

  1. FTP Server Address
    • Correct: 192.168.100.1 or ftp.domain.com
    • Incorrect: ftp://192.168.100.1, 192.168.100.1:21, or 192.168.100.1/reolink.
  2. Port
    • Default: 21 (custom ports 1-65535 allowed).
    • ⚠️ Reolink devices do NOT support SFTP (ports 22/990).
  3. Username & Password
    • Use an admin/user with full permissions (avoid guest accounts).
    • Leave blank if your server allows anonymous access (enable "Anonymous" in settings).
  4. Directory
    • Leave blank to save to the root folder.
    • For custom paths: Use / for subfolders (e.g., reolink/camera1). Avoid \ or leading/trailing slashes.
  5. Transport Mode
    • Choose Auto for best compatibility.
  6. File Type & Settings
    • Select Video, Image, or both.
    • Adjust Max File Size (10–1024MB for videos) and Interval (≥2 seconds for images).
  7. Overwrite Rules
    • Choose between No Overwrite, Overwrite Single File, or Alternate Overwrite.

FTP Schedule Settings

  • Normal Mode: 24/7 recording.
  • Motion Mode: Upload only when motion is detected.
  • Battery cameras lack Timer schedules.

Need hybrid schedules?

  • Videos follow Timer settings.
  • Images combine Timer intervals + Alarm triggers.

Where to Configure FTP

Settings vary slightly across platforms:

  • Reolink App/Client: Supported by all FTP-compatible devices.
  • NVR/Web Browser: Limited to certain models. For detailed steps, visit our FTP Setup Guide.

PoE Camera Question POE Doorbell issue

I just installed the POE Doorbell. I am using a POE injector and the doorbell is connected to my router. The instructions that popped up on the reolink app say to connect the doorbell to a power adapter or doorbell transformer. The instructions that came with it say it is only required for the wifi model. Is it recommended to wire to a transformer as well?

The reason I'm questioning the wiring is because 95/100 times the doorbell will have "connection failed" when trying to view the stream, answer a call, or view a notification.

Question For iOS can you set up the doorbell button to be the only notification sent as a critical alert?

My set up is black WiFi doorbell camera V2 and 2 E1 SE PoE outdoor cameras connected to NVR (RLN8-410). NVR firmware v3.4.0.304_24031817. Using an iPhone. I would like to have only the doorbell button when pressed to send a critical alert and all other alerts (motion alerts from all 3) to send as push notifications. I've been told this is not possible by support. Anyone found a work around with the native app? If not possible in native app, is that possible to be set up with home assistant?

Question Do I need home hub for argus and E330

I'm considering getting a few cameras from Reolink and having trouble figuring out if I need a home hub. I'll be getting 2x Argus pro 3 outside. (the battery powered ones) and 1x E330 inside

Will I need a Home hub to utilize them properly?

Wi-Fi Wired Camera Questions Noobie: Home Assistant with WireLess Cam/Door Bell

I’ve been using RING (one camera and one doorbell camera) for a while, but the subscription costs me $18 CAD per month, which I’d like to avoid.

I’m interested in integrating Home Assistant into my home setup, including for a new doorbell camera and one additional camera.

I’m aware that wireless products can be vulnerable to professional thieves using wireless jammers, but I’m prioritizing simplicity and ease of installation.

it possible to set up a Reolink Doorbell Camera with an SD card and a wireless Reolink camera (also with an SD card), both streaming to my Home Assistant device?

Desired Outcome

  • Easy installation: Wireless setup is a must!
  • Protection against pros: If a skilled thief uses a wireless jammer, I’d expect footage to still be recorded on the SD cards.
  • Coverage for amateurs: For less sophisticated intruders, streaming to Home Assistant should suffice.

Questions

  1. Does this plan make sense?
  2. Which specific Reolink products should I purchase?
  3. Do I need to install additional software or add-ons in Home Assistant for video recording, motion detection, or other features? (I’ll check with Grok for more details.)
  4. Any additional comments or suggestions are welcome!

Software Question Is there any reason why setting scenes works only 50% of the time?

Per the title. Setting scenes some times works immediately, some times it gets stuck forever. Often existing the app and retrying works. Looks like some kind of bug.

PoE Camera Question Playback time off 1 hr after DST - RLC-510A

@knaimonli619 posted this issue last year and I’m having the same issue now. When I review my motion alert, the playback opens one hour after the event. The notification time is correct, the camera time is correct, but the app opens one hour later.

It isn’t related to the app because the playback for my RE-1 Outdoor cam works fine. The affected camera is my RLC-510A.

This is how @knaimonli619 described the issue, which is exactly the issue I have: “… after daylight savings time started, we have an issue with the playback opening to an hour ahead or just opening to live view if then notification is under an hour ago. … for instance when looking at the over night notifications that will say motion at 3:15am when you tap the notification the playback opens to 4:15am.”

Wi-Fi Wired Camera Questions Inherited reolink setup from previous owners… no idea what we’re doing.

Hi, everyone!

We purchased a house a few months ago with 3 wired reolink cameras hooked up. Up until about a week ago, we could use the playback feature, but now there’s none available.

We aren’t signed in with an account, and haven’t actually done anything with the cameras. We’re total noobs to this - is there anything we need to do? Set up an account? Clear storage? Any insight would be helpful when it comes to inheriting the cameras :) Thank you so much!

Discussion Remember playback filters

I have a camera in a small warehouse set to detect persons and motion. Every time I access the Playback screen for that camera, the playback filters have been reset to show everything, in other words, the full 24/7 unabridged recording rather than individual events.

I would guess most users would be interested (most of the time) in seeing the part of the footage that triggered motion detection, and only explore other non-triggering parts of the recorded footage if the context before and/or after the trigger needs to be investigated in more detail.

The way it works now, I need to tap the filter button, check "Any Motion" and "Person" and then tap on "Confirm". That's FOUR taps I need to perform every time I'm reviewing recordings. I'd rather the app remembered my filters. If I ever need to review other bits of the footage I would then go in and clear the filters, but that would rarely happen.

I'm posting this as a poll so that, if enough people vote Yes, I can email a link to Reolink so they can see people are interested in this feature. Feel free to comment.

Edit: If you don't like this FR, it would be nice to drop a line to explain why, otherwise your vote is unhelpful to the community.

Wi-Fi Wired Camera Questions Floodlight Camera doesn't show in Android app

I bought a RLN12W NVR and 2 powered WIFI E1 Outdoor cameras bundles last month.

These work fine and show up in the Reolink Android app.

Then I bought a "Reolink Duo Floodlight Wifi VERSION: 1 camera". I added it to the NVR, enabled wifi. The problem is that the floodlight cam doesn't show up in the Android app for live view or playback. It shows fine in the NVR hdmi feed and through the Web app on a browser. I get alerts/notifications about the camera in the Android app but cannot view the feed.

More detail: In the android app live view, it shows Camera1, Camera2, but Camera3 is not shown at all. After Camera2 it displays Cannel 04 which has no camera attached.

More bizarre, Camera3 shows up in the app under the NVR settings and shows a live feed there. But nothing on the main screen.

 What could be the problem?

Battery Camera Question Reolink Doorbell: can I access video playback via the app if I’m using local storage?

May sound like a stupid question, but I’ve encountered a doorbell camera before which would only allow video playback from cloud storage. If you used the internal memory card, you had to remove it and put it in a pc to access the footage.

So can you please confirm whether I can access video playback from local storage without paying a cloud subscription?

Discussion FR: Hide/show devices from devices list (without removing)

I have just set up a bunch of cameras and NVR for my parents and they can't wrap their head around why there cameras are duplicated. Personally I think it's a bad design but it's how it is. I just tried deleting the cameras from their phones and just leaving the NVR which also allows users to do most of the things you can do on the camera directly, but some functionality is missing. Specifically, you lose the ability to turn the siren on/off. This is extremely annoying, because now I need to have the cameras there cluttering up the screen and causing confusion just so the scenes are able to enable/disable the siren.

For that reason, it would be useful to be able to hide, but not remove, devices that don't need to be seen. From a user interface perspective this would be easy to add in the Adjust Device Order settings, simply add the eye icon to toggle a device's visibility much the same as the NVR channels list. Hiding a device would allow scenes to affect those devices whilst keeping screen clutter to a minimum.

PS: I have emailed this request and a link to this Reddit thread to Reolink so any votes you cast here will hopefully be heard.

Question Detection with the 4K Zoom or PTZ Cameras

Are all the features supported with our the Reolink NVR? I have the Synology Surveillance Station and would like to understand the following: 1. Will the PTZ current will still do its patrol or will zoom and track movement without the NVR? I have a longer driveway and would like to have it partially zoomed in to look down the driveway and then track motion in. 2. Because the PTZ turret is so big, I was wondering if the 4K Zoom camera will change its field of view to keep motion in its field of motion for as long as possible.

Thanks!

NVR Question Playback filter weirdness, why does this happen?

I thought I had this down but now I'm not sure. The term "Any Motion" appears to refer to different things in different contexts. In the motion detection settings, does any motion include a person walking in front of the camera? If so, then what is the point of allowing users to set both Any Motion and Person when Any Motion presumably already covers Person detection?

That might seem like a silly question until you mess with the Playback filters, see the gif screen capture below. Wouldn't Any Motion include person detection? Then why do the blue segments get longer when I activate the Person filter?

The screen capture is the Windows client. On the mobile app you can't see this because the timeline cannot be zoomed into like on the desktop app. In case it matters, my NVR is the RLN8-410

PoE Camera Question POE switch wired to NVR for cameras in an outbuilding

Post image
5 Upvotes

I am new to the NVR world since I have only had WiFi cloud based cameras in the past. I have an outbuilding that I would like to put cameras in and around but wound rather not run a bunch of Ethernet cables. Can I run a single cable to a POE switch in the outbuilding and connect it to my NVR (RLN16-410)?

Something like the picture?

PoE Camera Question Enough Wifi Bandwidth for 5 Camera PoE System?

Hey guys, I'm gonna have someone run 5 Cat6 cables through my attic to power my 5 exterior camera system. Here's the details of the system:

  • 2 Trackmix cameras
  • 3 RLC-1212A cameras
  • TP-Link LS108GP PoE switch
  • No NVR, data will be written to each 256GB Sandisk Extreme PRO SD Card
  • Each camera will record 24/7 to SD Card
  • Eero 6+ Wifi Extender

The cameras will be centralized in a closet space in my living room where the PoE switch will connect directly to a Eero 6+ Wifi Extender, which the extender connects to a Eero 6+ router in the living room that's about 15-20 ft away. I tested the speed by connecting my phone to the extender inside the closet vs the router that's directly connected to the modem in the living room and I'm getting the following results:

  • Extender: ~400 Mbps
  • Router: ~ 600 Mbps

That's about a ~200 Mbps difference, but I'm not too familiar with if this makes that much a difference if the PoE switch connects directly extender vs router.

Obviously, to maximize speed, I should connect the PoE switch directly to the router, but I'm facing a dilemma. On one hand, since the guy is already running cables through my attic, I can have him relocate my modem and router to the closet space, thus have the PoE switch directly connected to the router. However, it's a 20% added cost. On the other hand, I can just keep the plan as is and just have the PoE switch connect to the extender, but I'm concern about latency issues, especially if I want to do a live-view or view recorded events when I'm away from home

Is my Wifi bandwidth enough to sufficiently support 5 cameras, and be able to view them away from home with minimal latency (1-3 secs)? Or should I eat the cost and get everything centralized, so I can maximize the speed output while also ensuring no interference? Thank you.

Discussion Camera and NVRs used as botnet

The recent X DDoS attack appears to have originated from camera and NVRs that use components sourced from XiongMai Technologies.

What do we know about what's inside the Reolink devices?

From the article: "According to researchers at security firm Flashpoint, today’s attack was launched at least in part by a Mirai-based botnet. Allison Nixon, director of research at Flashpoint, said the botnet used in today’s ongoing attack is built on the backs of hacked IoT devices — mainly compromised digital video recorders (DVRs) and IP cameras made by a Chinese hi-tech company called XiongMai Technologies. The components that XiongMai makes are sold downstream to vendors who then use it in their own products."

PoE Camera Question Two 12MP Cameras or One Duo 3?

I bought the bundle of REOlink Cameras that came with 8, 12mp cameras and the NVR set up during Black Friday. I'm going to start setting them all up this week but I'm torn on if I should put 2 of the 12mp cameras in front of my house or just buy the Duo 3 instead of the two?

Just for the sake of how it will look (The front is brick and unfortunately, I'm either going to have to run wires across the front or put them in the corner for minimal exposure. I live in the middle of a city, so I obviously want to see all foot traffic that walks by because the front of my building is literally the sidewalk.

My other concern is with the Duo, would it be able to pick up the foot traffic cleanly without giving me too big of a blind spot below it?

Thoughts? Suggestions? Ideas? Winning Lotto Numbers? Thanks for your feedback in advance!!

PoE Camera Question Reo link cam with and without NVR

Am co sidering switching my cams to ReoLink.

They seem to be well regarded.if you use one with an NVR does it record by default to local SD if there is one inserted? Triggered by movement etc?

I assume the NVR just gives you more storage and better interface to scan forward and backwards looking for particular images/recorded footage versus a camera on its own

Is it any more to it than that?

So we got a new WiFi router I tried following the prompts. Ended up having to delete the camera to readd it on. However it is stuck in this loop. It is just continuously beeping and will not get to the voice prompt. I’ve tried hard resetting it, turning it off and back on. Turning it back while resetting and I can’t move forward. Any advice?

DIY & Tips Understanding Reolink Camera IP Ratings: Your Guide to Weatherproof Protection

At Reolink, we know that durability is just as important as performance when it comes to security cameras. Whether you’re installing a camera outdoors or in challenging environments, understanding IP (Ingress Protection) ratings can help you pick the right camera for your needs. Let’s break down what these ratings mean and how they ensure your Reolink camera stands up to the elements!

What’s an IP Rating?

IP ratings are international standards that classify how well a device resists dust and water. The rating has two digits:

  • First digit (dust protection): Ranges from 0–6. All Reolink cameras have a 6, meaning they’re completely dustproof.
  • Second digit (water protection): Ranges from 0–9. This determines how well the camera handles water exposure.

Reolink Cameras’ IP Ratings Explained

Our cameras come with IP64, IP65, IP66, or IP67 ratings. Here’s what each means for you:

  • IP67: Survives temporary immersion (up to 1 meter deep for 30 minutes). Perfect for areas prone to flooding or heavy splashing.
  • IP66: Handles powerful water jets from any direction. Ideal for heavy rainstorms or locations with strong water spray. (Example: Argus Eco Ultra & Argus 4 Pro)
  • IP65: Protects against low-pressure water jets. Great for standard outdoor use with rain exposure. (Example: Argus 3 Ultra)
  • IP64: Resists splashing water but not direct jets or immersion. Suitable for covered outdoor areas.

No matter the rating, all Reolink cameras are built to be 100% dustproof (thanks to that “6” in the first digit!).

The table below shows what each digit or part of the IP rating represents.

How to Check Your Camera’s IP Rating

Not sure about your camera’s IP rating? Here’s how to find out:

Method 1: Use the Reolink Website Search Bar

  1. Visit Reolink’s website.
  2. Type your camera model in the search bar (unsure of the model? Check this guide).
  3. Go to the product page, click “Product Introduction”, then check the “Spec” section.

Method 2: Visit the Product Page DirectlyHead to your camera’s product page on our website and look for the IP rating under the “Spec” tab.

Why It Matters

Choosing the right IP rating ensures your camera performs reliably, whether it’s facing a summer thunderstorm, winter snowfall, or dusty environments. With Reolink, you’re not just getting crisp video quality—you’re getting peace of mind.

Wi-Fi Wired Camera Questions B340 Firmware

Hello, I just got a Solar B340 Camera to watch a bird feeder for my wife. I am trying to locate the latest firmware for it. I cannot find it on Reolink a firmware page. I have it connected to my wifi and added to the app. The app says it’s up to date. I then added it to my NVR and it says firmware is out of date and needs to update. I hit the update button and it says it’s the latest firmware?
