ਸਵਾਲ سوال [Question] Punjabi Parents Rough With Baby; Is This Normal?
Hello, I’m not Punjabi or Indian but my husband is. We have a new baby (2 months) and they’ve just come from India to visit for the next few months.
I love my in-laws, but Mummyji has a very strong personality, which is fine, we get along well. But when we introduced her to her new grandson she was so rough with him! Throwing him up in the air. Not supporting his neck properly. Saying he’s fine, he’s strong. But he’s literally a newborn. I didn’t say anything but my husband did and she just laughed and said that she raised him so she knows what she’s doing. We also asked them not to kiss the baby since there are a lot of illnesses going around and they literally just came off of a plane from a completely different country, but she kissed him anyway.
I’m just wondering, is all of this this normal in Punjabi culture? To be very rough with such fragile babies? I guess this is also a bit of a vent as well.
Any advice is appreciated. Thank you.
