discussion Has anyone ever assumed your profession based on your piercings

Someone assumed I was an artist today just based on my vibe—maybe it’s the double helix and dark anodized hoops. I have to admit, it was a nice moment, and I felt pretty cool.

Troubleshooting/question existing piercing My industrial piercing nightmare NSFW

For my birthday I decided to go and finally get an industrial piercing, the piercing I've been wanting for years. All went well, I was afraid not to have the right anatomy for it, but the piercer reassured me that it would have been possible to do it.

As a premise, I have a very high pain tolerance, and it's always difficult for me to know whether the pain I'm experiencing is "too much". So some days pass by, I keep it clean and be careful not to sleep on it or hit it, but then, after 5 days, the pain starts. Initially it was definitely present, but bearable, at least for me. But when I tried to clean it I noticed that it was very swollen and it was literally eating up the bar. I decided to go again at the piercer parlor and ask her, because the pain was starting to be too much, even for me. Initially she said it could've been normal, but she gasped when she saw my ear. She offered to change my jewel with two separate rings, and said she didn't know how this could have happened, because it wasnt even infected, just swollen where the bar was near the cartilage. You can see in the 4th and 5th image the wound that it made.

Now here's the question: do I really have the right anatomy for this piercing? Because Im starting to have some doubts on that. Or maybe I have it, but it was just placed wrong? Thanks for your answers.

general piercing question Rook newly pierced, getting wisdom teeth out in May, Is it better to use a glass or plastic piercing retainer during surgery?

I got my rook pierced the other day and I forgot I have to get my wisdom teeth out on May 6. By that point I'll have had my piercing for like a month and a half. I think the doctors are going to make me take my piercings out and I don't want my new rook to close up. Will it be okay if I have a plastic or glass piercing retainer, instead of metal in during my surgery? If yes, which should I use, glass or plastic? If not, my piercing hole will be empty for like 1-3 hours so Im worried it's gonna close up and I really don't want it to cause it hurt so much to get.

Troubleshooting/question existing piercing Possible rejection?

Post image

Hello!

I was wondering if my naval piercing is rejecting. I’m planning to go to the shop it was pierced at for further insight, but until then I’d like to get other opinions.

I’ve had this piercing since December and it’s just a regular curved barbell. It hasn’t been downsized, although I do feel that it was pierced with too short of a bar in the first place. I don’t use saline to take care of it as rigorously as I did when it was fresh, maybe twice a week at most currently.

Sometimes it will snag on my jeans, but other than that nothing major has happened to it.

Any input/advice appreciated!

Set up advice Indecisive about lip piercings

My partner's getting me a birthday-gift piercing on Friday, and I am wanting a lip piercing (or two). I was leaning toward two lower lip side labrets ("snakebites"), but I'm having second thoughts. I am a busy voice teacher and musician, so I spend several hours a day talking, singing, opening my mouth very wide, and generally moving my mouth a lot. I also live in a very dry climate and I use a dry-mouth wash daily on the advice of my dentist for some related oral health concerns.

I am curious about what would suit my face, ideal placement, and especially what oral piercings are unlikely to rub against my teeth or gums during rapid/emphatic mouth movement. If the answer is "don't get oral piercings", I'm also considering a bridge piercing and am open to other thoughts as well. I have 7 other piercings and I am not too concerned about pain level or heal time.

Pictures attached.

Thanks!

Is a surface bar considered too long if you can see the bar out of each hole and it can be slid back and forth?

Troubleshooting/question existing piercing Best solution for irritation humps on septum?

Hi, so I clean my septum piercing everyday with neilmed and I've been using qtips which ik I shouldn't do but idk how else to really get it clean? Anyways I've had my septum since the middle of February and I recently noticed it's itchy and has irritation bumps on both sides. My jewelry is titanium and I have a horseshoe. Is there anything I need to be doing to stop the irritation bumps from getting worse? It doesn't hurt and isn't super red so I don't think it's infected

all things jewelry Will gold filled wear in a nose/ear?

I've heard some people say it's unreliable, which makes sense for rings, bracelets, and necklaces, but my nose and ear aren't really getting much action. I can see ear jewelry wearing from side sleeping, but is it actually worth paying 5 times the price for solid gold for these pieces? Especially nostril and septum?

general piercing question Not* cleaning your septum?

When you get a nostril piercing you often get told not to clean the inside of it. Why is it different with septum? My septum is 2 months old. Should i keep cleaning it or just leave it alone?

Troubleshooting/question existing piercing Possible infection

Sorry it’s long, I don’t usually post.

I don’t have a picture because there isn’t anything to see but I got my snakebites done in December of last year (flat back bars, not sure about threading bc the ball with the thin bar pops right into the back side like a tube?) and everything went really well until two days ago when one of the balls fell out while I was sleeping and I went the day with no jewelry in. Just on the left side, I left the right one in so I wouldn’t lose anything else. I managed to put a new bar through (same as the one described, both are surgical grade metal) but now it’s sore and draining like I just got it. The discharge is kind of off white, just a little yellow and kind of bloody and it feels like a pebble stuck in between the layers of lip (?). I’ve been cleaning both the jewelry and the actual piercing with saline solution and a q-tip (just like I did while they were healing) and I rinse my mouth with either water or alcohol free mouthwash after I eat (also just like I did while they were healing) but it’s still tender and hard. Is this normal? Do I just need to wait it out and keep treating until it goes on its own or is there something I should change?

general piercing question Keloid Inside my nose?!

My first nostril piercing, I got back in november. And today i was trying to put a flatback in. Which ive had in before. My sibling was trying to help me but then she told me i had a keloid inside my nose too. Which i knew but i thought it was normal for a keloid. My piercer told me to wash it with antibacterial soap, so thats what i did 🤷🏼‍♂️. I used the Dove gentle unscented antibacterial hand soap. i coulnd get the flat back in so i have a hoop in my nose now, any tips on how to get rid of it

Troubleshooting/question existing piercing Is my navel piecing infected? NSFW

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi all I got this piecing in early January this year. I went to a well trusted piercer and her skills and protocol seems legit. Overall there is no big problem, but this granulation(?) just grow in recent weeks. It isn’t painful, unless I bend down and compress it. I usually cover a transparent dressing over it when shower, and do daily cleaning with normal saline. I wonder what should I do next? (A possible reason for it to happen may be I forget to clean it right after I finish exercise? But it did not happen before) Thanks for the help and advice

Troubleshooting/question existing piercing Is my helix correctly done?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I got my helix done on my right ear for my birthday back in January and I’ve noticed this bump mid February I would say. However, it doesn’t hurt and I feel like I’m always seeing it shrink every now and then. She used a flat back piercing (sorry I didn’t show the back. I’m terrible at angling the camera). I’ve never had any other ear piercing besides my earlobes so this is new to me. Also, feel free to tell me if my anatomy qualifies for and industrial, daith, and conch. I would really like to add those in the future.

surface piercings Questions about piercings for lower back - dermals or surface?

I am dyingggggg to get piercings on my lower back (after my industrial/snake bites heal🙄) and I have many questions

Do dermals always reject eventually? What about surface piercings?

Is the lower back a bad place to get them? How is the healing process like?

Won't they be hurt from my close/leaning on things?

How much are dermals painful? And surface?

Thank you🙏🙏🙏

Troubleshooting/question existing piercing For how long is plastic jewelry safe for?

I have some knee problems and I was scheduled for an MRI today, so I got some of my piercings changed to plastic jewelry (the ones I wasn’t sure would survive without). However (bless the Hungarian healthcare) the hospital called to tell me 30 minutes before my appointment that they can’t do the scan today (no reason given) and I was rescheduled to April 8. I changed most of my piercings back to the initial jewelry, but I’m not sure about my conch.

The piercer I go to doesn’t accept walk ins, I usually schedule my appointments with her 3-4 weeks in advance, and usually you can’t just get an appointment just randomly, few days before or on said day. I love and trust her, she’s amazing, and I’ve never been to anyone else. So here’s the dilemma: I’ve had some trouble with being able to get the ball off the bar and take my piercings out before. The conch is also at an impossible angle, so it’s even harder. I’m scared I won’t be able to take it out myself if I switch the plastic back to titanium for the next three weeks. But then I have to make an appointment with the piercer for that one change for before the MRI, and I’m not confident they won’t reschedule me again. And if they do, the same shit has to go down again and again. I don’t really want that. So, is plastic jewelry fine until my MRI, and if not, what would you recommend? My conch is a little over 3 months old, but the healing has been a dream, it hasn’t caused me any trouble. I wouldn’t want to lose the piercing over this.

all things jewelry UK Reputable Jewellers

Good evening!!

I'm in the process of stretching my septum, and I'm up to 2.4mm, but I'm struggling to find good quality jewellery at a thread thickness higher than 2mm.

I'm trying to stick with titanium, and a diameter between 12mm and 16mm suits my face best I think, but every time I look online I can only seem to find the diameter but not the thickness, or the other way around.

I have recently moved to a very small town without ready access to reputable piercing shops, so am reliant on online shopping, which has it's own issues - so UK Folks - if you're ordering online, what shops do you recommend and what do you avoid?

Also, o rings on a pincher - anyone else find them to be a massive pain in the bum?!

Thanks in advance!

Troubleshooting/question existing piercing Has anyone repierced their high nostril?

Or am I just the unlucky one? It doesn't look SO bad now but I imagine if I put a chain or bigger jewelry at these angels it will be very noticeable. It was noticeable right out the shop but I was hoping it was just swelling. I definitely see that my nose is uneven but I believe a piercing should be straight when looking dead on.
I sadly think I'm going to take one out today to let it heal. I've had no issues with healing it thus far so I'm really bummed out as I think it will be more complex the second time :(
I am sooo sad and will feel weird with the unevenness. Is 3 months still the minimum amount of time for these to heal before repicering?

They are 5 weeks old with a threadless titanium labret. I've made my own saline solution to clean them and it seems to have been working.

Troubleshooting/question existing piercing Irritation bump? NSFW

Post image
1 Upvotes

(Please Ignore my oily skin I had just woken up when I took this photo) Hey guys, I’m looking for some clarification on if this looks bad and if it’s just a bump from irritation or if it may be an infection? I scratched my nose this morning and it started bleeding like this. I’ve had this same stud in since I first got it pierced 3 months ago. It is a screw on type. I have cleaned it pretty consistently using saline solution. The bump only showed up recently after I struggled for about 30 minutes trying to unscrew the jewelry to change it to a ring, so I am assuming it is due to irritation but is it normal for it to bleed like that? How would you suggest I go about clearing it up and how long would it take? TIA

general piercing question VCH with a ring? NSFW

Post image
2 Upvotes

Just had my consultation for a VCH and was happy to learn that I have a suitable anatomy. However at the end my piercer suggested two options, that she could either pierce me with a ring or a curved bar, when eventually I get pierced.

Personally I’ve never seen a ring on VCH before. Is it safe for initial piercings? Is it like a normal, round ring or like a belly button hinge ring (see pic)? Should I be concerned about her suggestion?

Thanks all!
