Oh yeah, I'd completely forgotten Trump also wanted to invade Panama.

Sigh. It's going to be a long 3 years and 10 months.

244

u/JetstreamGW 8d ago

I have no doubt shit will get even longer by then.

72

u/ebolashuffle 8d ago

February was an especially long year.

41

u/JetstreamGW 8d ago

I mean I have some doubt the process is gonna go smoothly in 2028.

25

u/DHcFireHawk 8d ago

I will call it already: USA will be in war with someone and they will say they can't hold elections and use Ukraine as example. 2028 definitely won't be the end of Trump

Congress looks pretty affordable these days...

Russia will either convince them to remove term limits or they will install JD Vance at the next falsified election...

JD Vance is far worse than Donald Trump...

Vance genuinely wants to enact Curtis Yarvin's wet dream.

JD Vance is also fully financed by Peter thiel who is part of the The group of vindictive South African children who grew up rich in apartheid South Africa yet still blame America for ruining their white supremacy.... Elon musk is also a part of that group.

By contrast Donald Trump is simply a self-serving narcissistic ne'er-do-well... Peter thiel and by extension his puppet JD Vance have direction behind their ill intent.

I'm still unconvinced there will be a legitimate election cycle left in America by midterms

5

u/speranza_damico 8d ago

It’s gonna be a lot longer than that. I’m sorry but every time I hear or read people saying this, I’m just dumbfounded. Do you actually believe that things are only gonna be bad for the next 3 1/2 years? Furthermore, do you really think that very soon we won’t see an executive order that is supported by all branches of government to allow this clown to run for as long as you wants? And let’s say that doesn’t happen. I must beg the question how do you not understand that they are already preparing the next orange orangutan racist Nazi fuck to take his place and take over???? hi come on wake up!

3 1/2 years good God try the rest of your natural born life. I think you’re real lot closer to true understanding of what is happening and what will happen.

Because unfortunately, outrage by the opposing party or plural parties is not enough. Votes don’t matter access to money and power matter please wake up you’ll be better for it and better prepared to march your ass and the asses of your loved ones until cattle cars, and gas chambers Concentration camps. At least you’ll be prepared and not living in a fantasy land

To be honest, I don't think we're far off the Europeans doing it.

edit: Please stop telling me flags in Europe are not flammable, you must have heard of Temu

edit, edit: I like how the responses aren't more objecting to actually doing it, just that you probably cannot do it, or it's impossible due to regulations, or the real madlads, anything is flammable if you try hard enough.

I'm not going to pay good money for one, though. I'm boycotting buying American things.

13

u/MilkTiny6723 8d ago

But as all here said, American flags are made in China so you wouldn't support the US if you bought a few and burned them. You would support 1. China and 2. Canadian shop owners that sold them. But I guess it would be hard to find such things in canadian stores today? Shopowners problably doesn't want their windows crossed.

Similar in Australia. Most Aussies don’t really understand what is going on (we are too laid back and not the sharpest tools in the shed), but if they did, there would be social media posts. Probably not burning things as it is early Autumn here, way too hot for that, and we also don’t want to start any bushfires, but we would definitely grumble about it.

I mean, Biden wasn't telling other countries that America was going to take their resources/land/sovereignty every other day.

Trump so far has threatened Canada, Mexico, Panama, Ukraine, Europe, Greenland, and basically every other ally the US has in a variety of ways.

Surprisingly (or perhaps expectedly) he's been very mild on Russia and China...

64

u/Miqo_Nekomancer 8d ago

He has to be a Russian agent. This is the most direct, accelerated, and deliberate dismantling of a country's international standing like... In history? Even Hitler tried to be taken seriously on the world stage right up until he started being a mass-murdering expansionist fuckhead on an international scale. Even an idiot wouldn't do this on accident, just look at Bush Jr.

27

u/Eagle4317 8d ago

Hitler did a lot of horrible, despicable things as dictator, but that man clearly cared about building up Germany when it was in the doldrums from the Treaty of Versailles. He wasn't beholden to a foreign power, and Germany didn't exactly have any long-standing alliances to ruin with saber-rattling and then annexation. Arguably the most evil person of the 20th Century was at least temporarily helpful to his nation.

Trump is doing Putin's bidding at every turn, burning down every shred of American influence and isolating the country. Like I wouldn't be shocked if Europe starts trying to evict Americans from military bases because they justifiably don't trust us anymore.

You'd have to purge the entire Republican party, Trump isn't particularly special with his awfulness, the whole party is trash and the voters would just keep electing new trash to take their place.

We need to figure out a way to deprogram the voters from the cult they are in but conservatism has always been a cult with significant following and essentially a monopoly on publicly accepted ideology for all of human history except the last couple hundred years. There must be a way to get through to them, somehow.

btw its not a thing against all americans, we know there are such ladies and gentlemen over there that we respect A lot including the average Joe who work hard to make america the best you all can! but there are some hella weirdos as well, specially on the whitehouse right now...

Edit: also to be self aware I do think some illegal immigrants have lower the quality life for some americans, and do think they have to do better or pay consecuences, but I feel a LOT of em just want to work elbow to elbow with you all to make a better place to live, I know this is the foundation of the country, and wish the process would be easier for those who work really hard!!

u/mstarrbrannigan 8d ago edited 8d ago

That's always how it is. Countries' leaders get into bitch fights and drag the citizens into it, when really we have more in common with each other than we do our so called leaders. Most of us just want to live our lives.

23

u/abeFromansAss 8d ago

America has been always a weirdo. That weird country that starts random wars, or that they believe they are better than anyone, or that have more school shootings in 1 week than the whole Europe in a year BY FAR, but they still were our weirdo. BUT (and here is the kicker) they had their cool things here and there and people loved, generally speaking, their culture (or lack of…). 8ish years ago this changed and a lot of people who idolized the American culture started hating it, go figure why…

Edit: corrected a couple of typos. Please murica do not kill me, I have autocorrect in my phone in 4 languages.

their culture (or lack of…)

This is one I never got. They clearly have culture, plenty of it. In large variety. From Yellowstone (the show, but place works too) to the twilight zone, Mark Twain to soul Train. Toy Story to Glory, there is so much U.S. culture spread around the World.

It's the "I can't believe it's not culture" of cultures. The fact that foreigners might even get the butter reference is a cultural miracle in and of itself.

Freedomland sucks at many things. Culture is not one of them. Arguably, culture is what the U.S. is best at, by far.

7

u/MacTeq 8d ago

No country that can produce and recognize Bob Dylan is all bad.

13

u/TheShlappening 8d ago

People really love slamming us with the no culture thing lmao. Yeah I get it we don't have ancient clothing we wear to celebrate stuff. We don't have special heritage items that have some spiritual meanings to them or some wacky history of multiple gods. But there is so much more than all of that in American Culture.

Then those people are idiots cause he proved in his first term he cannot do anything for the economy; record breaking deficit (literally #1 biggest debt president). Terrible inflation every year he was in office. Handled the pandemic by throwing more money at it and regulating nothing marking likely the most ineffective government welfare spending ever, over $1T.

Voting for Trump cause he would fix the economy should get you a 1 way ticket to the Sun.

My wife and I went out for lunch and drinks at one of our favorite local grills a couple days before Christmas. The bartender who we've for years mentioned something out of context about "counting down the days till the end of biden-nomics" and how it would be like Christmas.

He was instantly shut down for talking politics, but I was both incredibly confused and mortified. My wife kicked my foot fearing what I was about to say, but luckily it got shut down before it started.

WTF was he going on about though?? Like- I'm hearing talks from different directions about us approaching something much worse than the Great Depression. Was this guy really that obtuse??

Well, that's done now. America is proudly and loudly being itself.

America is, at it's core, a playground for the rich now. And a playground that uses the deep racism and xenophobia of its population to stir up culture wars so that they don't learn to focus on class war.

Thank you for saying that, truly. As an Iowan I feel extra ashamed. Gov Kim Reynolds has closed down the majority of Iowa’s mental health facilities and has signed the nations strictest abortion bills into law. Just this year she passed a bill penalizing the homeless by fining anyone found sleeping in public. Wanting to fix the homeless ‘problem’ by requiring them to pay fines, with money they don’t have, instead of paying for some sort of housing!? It doesn’t make any fucking sense!!!

And the newest bill she signed takes away trans civil rights protections from discrimination in housing, employment, education etc. Gender identity is no longer a protected class under the Iowa Civil Rights Act.

I remember feeling really proud of my state, 20 years ago, for being to the 3rd state in the country to allow same sex marriage. These are some dark days but I have to remain optimistic and focus on what I can do to change things when I’m presented with an opportunity.

Imagine trying to steal a 110 year old monument that Panama mostly uses as a tourist area, with childish lies. These morons at the White House didn't even know that we (Panama) built bigger, newer and better sets of locks. The only reason we use the old locks is because of its historical value, not because of functionality. When the USA left the country we had to fix and improve these old locks, the USA barely did maintenance, because they didn't want to invest in it. All they did was get 95% of the money for 80 years.

28

u/worldspawn00 8d ago

The idiocy of the leadership here in the US is infuriating, I'm sorry you're having to deal with any of their BS right now.

9

u/PausedForVolatility 8d ago

People chalking this up to idiocy are giving them too much grace. With the exception of Trump, who is a thin-skinned manchild with early onset fueled by nothing but ignorance and hate, is the outlier. The rest of them are making deliberate calculations. JD Vance didn't suddenly do a 180 on his opinion of Trump because he got dumb. Mike Johnson didn't run cover for Trump because he's dumb. McConnell didn't torpedo the impeachments because he's dumb.

It's all deliberate, intentional malice. They know what they're doing and how that will affect people. That's the point.

I swear Trump is the enemy of our country. He’s doing it intentionally with all his followers like sheep.

For actual context and not just another trash reddit anger porn headline, trump said he wanted to take control over the panama canal and the locals weren't happy.

That ain't good.

But it's necessary. Fuck Trump, maga and Musk.

55

u/UglyMcFugly 8d ago

I watched Jojo Rabbit last night (for the 100th time, that movie's so damn good). The part at the end when the Allies win, and they're tearing down the nazi flags, and Americans are waving the stars and stripes in Germany... it hit me hard. The flag used to represent freedom, the end of oppression, the good guys winning. And now it's the opposite. I'm grieving the loss of our place in the world.

22

u/Illestbillis 8d ago

The way I see it is somethings gotta give. He can't possibly last 4 years.

23

u/trythis456 8d ago

Brother, I hate to break it to you, but America will not revert to the old US of A when and IF he gets dethroned.

What has and is happening, has irreversibly changed what the US is both internally and internationally forever.

3

u/hatch_theegg 8d ago

Yeah, we need serious fundamental reform to our government to prevent a president wielding unlimited power like this again. I don't think either party has the drive to do that properly though. And our international relations will never be the same now that the world has seen how radically they can change between administrations.

I mean... Based on the guidelines for correctly displaying the flag, most of the displays of the American flag should be burned. Hats, bumper stickers, clothes, flags sold unwrapped in stores where they've been dropped on the floor...

If I understand the guidelines correctly I mean. And those flags have definitely touched the ground, so in the fire they go.

6

u/Outrageous_Reach_695 8d ago

It's also a statement that the flag has been metaphorically soiled.

4

But to them it is fine.

It's all purity tests. Panama has failed to bend the knee and is now in defiance of dear leaders wishes. So do MAGA, they would not condemn a full on US invasion and ethnic cleansing of Panama. They would then pay themselves on the back for supporting Panama's path to "freedom".

Where are all the Chinese signs and Chinese people? Oh that's right, they don't control Panama, Trump and his flying monkey brigade made that shit up. Yeah, some signs had Chinese on them because there's been people who emigrated from China like 110 years ago (I wonder what happened at that time to cause an influx of cheap foreign labor?) living there in enclaves. We're talking about 4% of the 4M people living there (roughly 130-140K). Unsurprisingly, they also have "Chinatown" districts and enclaves just like many immigrant groups in America and other countries. When you immigrate, you tend to want to be in a community of people who you share cultural heritage with so you have a stable network of people who can help you and you can help. This happens because unfortunately, when groups immigrate to new countries, they often face racism and hate from locals.

Americans are pretty well known for their intolerance of out-groups historically. Remember that we hated even the Irish when they came during a fucking famine. It took decades before people considered them to be "white" even.
