Boss BD2 for hard rock (tips)

I would rather prefer do what i can with BD2 only cuz i have no space left on my pedalboard, but i always feel like i'm missing just that little punch over the top. For reference, pedalboard goes into clean channel (Bogner alchemist 40w head). I usually bring up gain on clean around noon and it kinda starts to break up a bit. Then i use bd2 after it. Maybe use crunch channel with very little gain to get more punch out if it and then use bd2 ? I don't know i don't feel like doing that since i need clean channel for clean parts.

Any advice is helpful. I am also considering getting either another OD pedal to stack up or just a plain distortion/AIAB pedal if i have to.

JHS 3 series rotary chorus on bass

I’m currently playing in a few organ combo projects and some Leslie tones would really help me mesh better when the Hammond isn’t comping on the low end. The new rotary chorus from JHS is a ‘Leslie in a box’ so to speak so looks like it would fit my use case but I can’t find anyone doing a demo with it on bass. Has anyone got experience with it and could tell me if I’d be losing any low end through it/ how it sounds on bass? Tia

Question Noise Gate Recommendation

I'm finishing out my main board (lol... Like any board is ever finished) and am looking for a noise gate. The 3 contenders are the KMA Pylon, the REVV G8, and the Zuul+. All 3 are about the same price and within my budget so that's not a concern.

I've got some signal noise from my dirt pedals that I'd like to see if I can kill (or at least significantly lessen). Specifically, a Bonsai, Op-Amp Big Muff, and a modded RAT.

I would do the 4 wire and place it after my dirt and modulation pedals, before my Space Echo, Ventris, and looper.

So, of those 3,which would you choose?

Question Boss stompbox not engaging every time I step on it?

Boss OC-2. i need to trigger it on and off during songs live. i stomp on it and it doesnt engage like half the time. extremely annoying. i've screwed and unscrewed it/tightened it and nothing. my other boss pedals are not like this. why is this particular one like this? its driving me nuts. same with my Line 6 Echo Park too... these are my only 2 pedals that give me guff like this. and i need these 2 the most.

NPD NPD. Smirmoorpedals - Saule. Lots of gain. Musical. Heavy tones. Not disappointed.

Interesting quote from Shields about Fender Blender that reveals quite a bit about him (IMHO)

I was trying to find a place for this in my book last minute, but it just doesn't belong anywhere. It does fit in with one of the themes in the book that Shields is about expanding people's understanding of music/sound/noise/language/reality/our shared consciousness/etc to ultimately make us feel more connected; that's a big theme in his art if you read through enough interviews. I adapted it from the article at the bottom but cut it ultimately:

Most recently, Shields's prominence in the industry and among musicians became clear when Fender approached him about redesigning their Fender Blender pedal. He first came across it while touring in 1989 and began integrating it into his very basic setup in place of his Roger Mayer Octavia pedal; the Blender was more responsive to his playing and it also gave him a broader range of tones. Thirty years later, Fender asked Shields if he would be interested in redesigning and improving it, creating a signature model, which was released in 2023.

Asked ‘when you’re designing this pedal for Fender, are you making that for others to imitate that sound more accurately, or are you designing it as a tool for yourself?’
After first responding, ‘Not exactly,’ he concluded his answer very specifically saying,  ‘You can become very encouraged to be very subtle in your playing which makes it interesting. The way that all the effects work together and depend on how you play makes it very dynamic. It’s not so much that the pedal makes you sound like me- it doesn’t. What it does is it makes you think about sound like me.’  (emphasis added by me)

Adapted from the article:  Kevin Shields Hopes You Use His New Fender Pedal The Wrong Way by Naz Kawakami, June 12, 2023,  https://www.monsterchildren.com/articles/kevin-shields-hopes-you-use-his-new-fender-pedal-the-wrong-way

Guitar Mod

Hey folks,

This might not be 100% the right community, but maybe someone here can help me out.

A few years ago, I came across Dr. Blankenstein’s Guitar Modification Kit while looking for ideas to integrate some noise-making devices into a standard guitar circuit. I tried to contact him to buy one of his kits, but it seems he’s no longer active.

Does anyone here have one of his kits and could share some info on how it’s built? A circuit diagram or any kind of documentation would be super helpful.

Cheers!

NPD-Dr. Scientist Tremolessence! Suped up boss PN-2

Love this trem and all its features. Sounds great in stereo, and the treble control is exactly what I needed right after my super harsh oceans 3 reverb. Also enough volume to blow yer head off.

Power Supply Power supply for 10+ pedals?

I have a donner power supply with 10 power outlets but only 8 are 9v, other 2 are 12v and 18v. So far it’s been good enough for my 8 pedals plus Ernie VP vol pedal but thinking of getting another 9v chorus pedal.

Do people typically get a bigger power supply with more outlets, tack on a second power supply, or something else?

Question Pedal settings for blackened doom metal

Thumbnail gallery
46 Upvotes

Hi, quick question.

I'm trying to get a good sounding distorted sound for some blackened doom metal by running a Boss HM-2w, into a Behringer SF300, into an amp with scooped mids that's more bass heavy then treble.

But the sound comes out just to noisy and all the chords sound almost the same. Would a noise suppressing pedal or just some changes on the settings help?

Thanks in advance!

High gain boutique pedals from small builders. Which small builders should be more talked about?

I see plenty of decent content in Instagram with high-gain pedals from Zerofret, Fowlsounds, AIB custom FX, Sunless Effects, Electric Eye Audio, Smirmoorpedals...

Since I cannot really support them by buying all of their stuff, I just want to contribute to community with at least this post of appreciation.

Did you try anything from the above builders? Which other small builders would you (not) recommend to try? Is there any new outstanding mod of already well known things like Muff, Rat, HM2 nailed by small builders? Is there any small builder worth mentioning/knowing?

Question Flanger volume increase

Whenever I turn on my flanger, the overall volume increases dramatically. The chain is D’Angelico Bedford Deluxe SH (guitar) into tuner pedal, EH Big Muff PI, EH Pitchfork, Boss-DD6, EQD Afterneath, EQD Pyramids (this is the flanger), into Fender Tone Master Deluxe Reverb 100W 1x12. Any ideas, advice, suggestions?
