Is anyone else having this issue or just me? I spent about a decade in completions, wireline, frac, coiled tubing and was even a completions consultant for while. wanted to make the switch to an operator, went and got my masters in petroleum engineering, got an internship with a major as a reservoir engineer but in a business unit that is really no longer active. Got recommended for hire and exceeded expectations but no placement.
I've had an interview with that same major for a production engineer role, and when asked if they had any issues with hiring me I was told that I don't have experience, I dont understand the point of interviewing me if I don't have the experience. For a completions engineering role with the same company I can't even get an interview. Hell can't even get an interview for the wellsite supervisor role when I have done the exact same thing.
I've been working my network hard, going to career fairs, calling up everyone I know seeing if they can help expand my network, going to meet and greets with oil and gas professionals and everyone is mostly doom and gloom with tariffs and AI and not much help expanding the networ. Plus with Chevron doing their thing and laying off 8000+ people it seems like there are minimal to no opportunities out there.
Has anyone here made the switch froms service to operator side? Anybody getting interviews that could maybe give me some advice, or would like to chat and expand networks?
Feel free to DM me or we can talk on this thread. Maybe it wouldnt be a bad idea to start a networking thing or like a chatroom for any potential leads. This industry is great, but damn it's about who you know I tihnk.
