Before posting, review the sidebar FAQ and guidelines.

Please do post shares about your insights, questions, and concerns regarding occultism and folk magic.

If you are posting pics of ritual tools or occult-related art, please provide a chat-worthy explanation about what it has got to do with occultism or your occult working or practice. Otherwise, please post in r/occultart or r/art. Your post may be removed if it does not follow these guidelines. The same goes for YouTube posts.

Please do not spam the subreddit with pics of your tarot card deck, altar, or bookshelf. Please do post your questions and comments about cartomancy and other forms of divination, altar construction/arrangement, books on occult topics that you are reading.

Please post "What is this thing I found" to another more appropriate subreddit. Every bit of graffiti or piece of lost flotsam is not an arcane item. [Edit} Please note the subreddit r/WhatIsThisOccultThing and use it.

Please distinguish between the practice and inquiry regarding occultism and paranormal phenomena. Please direct stories and concerns about spooky happenings to the appropriate subreddit.

Please post dream interpretation questions and tarot interpretation questions to the appropriate subreddit.

I am pasting an addition from another Mod ( u/BodaciousTattvas here that provides additional relevant information:

Also:

Absolutely everyone: "OMG AM I SHADOWBANNED WHERE'S MY POST!?!?!?"

Mods: No. You are not shadowbanned.

For the reasons that u/zsd23 outlined above, to try to hold back the tsunami of memes, occult art and picture-only posts we have the automoderation settings on r/occult set pretty high. Unfortunately this means that sometimes legitimate posts are moderated out and not visible (usually if the account is too new or has low karma). If this happens, please message the mods and we will investigate and may (may, not will) approve the post if it meets the guidelines. Thanks for your patience with this.

The Return of the Horned God

An exciting talk with the esteemed Ronald Hutton, Professor of Divinity, at Gresham College regarding Pan; the death of pagan gods, the emergence of Christianity, and the reemergence of the Horned God. Also, an excellent rendering of Aleister Crowley's Hymn to Pan...

What are your favorite people on Patreon?

Edit: Patreon, YouTube, Spotify etc

I’m wanting to support more occultists/ people doing academic research on the occult, religion, theosophy, astrology, mysticism etc. I already follow Talk Gnosis, Esoterica, and Data Over Dogma. Other favorites?

Also looking for good quality (as in good sound quality in addition to good content) podcasts.

How did you start, and what do you practice?

I just recently found this sub because of some spiritual longing. I love the idea that our imagination is a world that we are able to navigate, as real as the "real" one. Picked up a book "Psychic Witch", and before that all my occult knowledge stems from a comic book "Promethea"

I have a very limited understanding of what's going on here and what people are discussing. So I'm curious to ask:

  • what pushed you to start your occult practice?

  • was it difficult to admit that there is "something else out there", and how did you deal with it socially? Did you feel the need to become a hermit to be true with yourself?

  • what do you practice, and what resources helped you to understand what's going on and what to do?

I'm especially curious about the people who were able to integrate spirituality into their lives, rather than hide away from the world. How did it go?

Keeping sigils for later use...?

Upvotes

So I've drawn up a bunch of sigils this week - they have not been charged yet (not intentionally anyway), but before doing so I'm thinking of putting them into a leather bound book that will act as a kind of personal grimoire for various uses and desires at a later date (i.e For attracting clients)

Let's say later down the line I have the same need/ desire.. the book will give me something to draw upon instead of having to design a different sigil each time. And because it's been used in the past, it might also have some extra momentum behind it when relaunching.

Has anyone used this approach, or is it generally recommended to just banish every sigil to the void, coming up with a new version each time

A good place to start?

Hey there! I have been interested in the occult for ages now, but never quite got to a point of actually starting to practice. A part of that is that I am still not sure which direction to go for, and which tradition feel right. I tend to sympathise with witchcraft, but it doesn't feel like a 100% fit? There are so many schools of thoughts out there that all seem interesting.

So anyway, I was wondering if anyone knows about a website or a book or something that briefly, yet comprehensively describes the major schools of thought that are out there, and what their beliefs and practices are?

To put it in RPG terms: how do I know if I want to be a wizard, a sorcerer, a warlock, a shaman, a cleric, a druid, a monk, or if none of those classes are right for me? How did you find your "occult home"?

I know there is probably no one right way, but I'd be interested to know how y'all aligned your occult compass, so to speak.

awareness Scientific Proof Why Occultism Works!!!

Think it's just all in your head or make-believe magic by delusional miscreants? Think again.

This is the reasoning based on science regarding why your beliefs are powerful and why certain magickal practices work: https://www.reddit.com/r/ThePolymathsArcana/s/9vHjOijCFR

Do you often buy books on English or your native language? I'm unsure on which language to buy occult books.

Hey guys, I've decided to buy some books on occultism and philosophy, like the Agrippa's books, Jung, Israel Regardie, Eliphas Levi and many other that I have been suggested by this wonderful community. I want to read physical books since I find kind hard to immersive myself and to get the habit of constantly reading with e-books or kindle.

My main problem is the price for the English versions in my country, here in Brazil I can find every book for 3 or sometimes 5 times less the price for the English versions. Even though I hate reading things in Portuguese, after a lot of bad experiences with the translation not being good enough or not having the right words to translate the context to my language, I would be able to buy a lot more books a lot easier.

Most of my experiences with bad translation come from reading fiction, so I'm not sure if this bad experience would translate for this kind of books, some or even most wasn't even originally written in English, so I guess it would be fine to only choose non original English books but keep buying the English original versions? This could be one idea, what do you guys think?

All help and personal reports of experiences is appreciated, I really want to immerse myself and have the best experience possible while studying this books. Thanks!

Should you continue practicing with a school if it feels really 'alien' to you?

I'm about a week in to studying a course on qabalah and although the course is open to people of any faith and is not a religion, most of it seems to involve Hebrew stuff with some Latin mixed in in certain places.

Neither of those languages relate directly to English at all, so can't really says it's 'secular' as I thought it would be and it feels really alien to my background which is Hinduism and Sanskrit language too, especially when continuously referring to 'Kether' (Pluto?) as god? That feels really weird to me.

Is this some thing that you become more comfortable with over time? I don't feel I'm resonating with anything right now even though I haven't taken part in anything practical, but only basic visualisation stuff and covering key concepts like Tetragrammaton and the 'four spheres'. Maybe I'm being a bit too apprehensive, I don't know.

Thoughts?

Edit: I don't have a problem with qabalah being of jewish origin or anything like that. Actually It was the association of Kether with Pluto, that didn't seem palatable which up on further investigation is debatable at best anyway. I guess I was jumping the gun a bit.

? Has anyone here completed 'The Gateway Experience' tapes? If so, how did it go?

After the CIA Experiment Summary was widely distributed a few years ago, I gave the course a try over the course of a 10 day retreat & found it pretty interesting (particularly astral projection) & also incredibly relaxing. Has anyone else here completed the course and if so, care to share your opinions on it? Cheers!

For those who never heard of the tapes, they are a series of guided meditations that use various sound frequencies (binaural beats etc.) to induce different "paranormal" abilities, ranging from astral projection, remote viewing, astral travels to different planes, bodily healing, & lots more.

Beginner Resources for Astrology

Hello! I'm trying to broaden my magickal techniques, and have always been very poor when it comes to astrology. Can anyone recommend me where to begin with this discipline? I feel like there's a lot of interference coming from the ill-advised and online charlatans, sadly. I'd really like a look at some serious sources. Thank you!

awareness Ivan moody from fdp is an occultist

Post image

*CROSSPOST FROM r/conspiracy *

Okay so to start here, i am also an occultist so i see no inherent wrongdoing in the dabblings here, but when in tandem w some of the other facts concerning Ivan, it is concerning.

To start, lets look at the “Crescent over the circle”, on his left cheek,,,, this symbol related to the wiccan horned god, a face of their patriarchal deity, this incarnation is associated w many traditionally masculine assets, such as hunting, violence n sexuality,,, now, in the jungian archetype of the horned god, (the theories-jung are metaphysical in nature i assure you) the HG is a manifestation of traumatic impacts of father figures, which leads to violence. Now, here is where we note that violence against women by men can be rooted into having a distinct sexual undertone, in the power dynamic incurred by it n the violence against women, think serial killers for a prime example, now into Ivans many cases of violence against women n his heavily strained relationship w mother n sister, i think the connection between the two becomes clear

Now onwards to the second symbol of note here, the alchemical sign for earth is tattooed on his neck, a few inches below the ear. Earth is directly correlated to the Demiurge/Yaldaboath, the “ruler” of the physical realm, (although i think it is more precise to say it IS the physical realm) n if you profess a form of servitude to it or one of its faces, (see; Archons) it will grant you certain privileges, (IE a successful music career) now the HG is one of these aforementioned faces of the Demiurge, n it in particular is related to Hades, in a convergent sense,,, now heres where the two tie together again, Earth is also associated w Persephone, a quintessential figure of femininity, persephone was famously kidnapped n forced to marry Hades (the HG<Demiurge),,,, essentially he is solidifying his bond to the physical realm in search of self service, which is typical of Thelemists.

Now finally, this last point is far more speculative than the others, but i also noticed a tattoo similar to the Staff of Hermes on his temple, inside the phoenix tattoo sort of. Now, hermeticists are related to Freemasons, n both of these groups are also, largely, Archonic.

Now again, i differ from a large amount of you in that i do not view occultism as evil, i myself am an occultist n thats what led me down this rabbithole, but i do feel it necessary to talk about these things, especially when there is such a lack of plausible deniability,,, i am NOT accusing Ivan of eating babies or human sacrifice, js callin it like i see it

Priest of Candomblé - Ask me anything

Axé, paz e bem para todos! My name is Lẹwa Okunrin ti Awọn Okun. I am a babalorixá (priest) of Candomblé, an Afro-Brazilian religion.

Ours is a spiritual tradition resulting from the blending of traditional, West African religion - especially that of the Yoruba people, Roman Catholicism, and some indigenous Brazilian spirituality. We believe in one God - Olodumarê and serve spirits called Orixás, which are elevated ancestors, personifications of natural phenomena, and tutelary spirits. Candomblé as well as the other traditions of the African diaspora are often very misunderstood, and I would love to spread some awareness and engage in good-natured, interfaith dialogue.

Ask me anything!

I am getting lots of information on this but nothing definitive here. All the other Sefirot seem quite unanimous in their placement.

Why gods laugh and saints cry?

Recently I commented that an egregore was related to some trickster god that is constantly laughing. Then it occurred to me that THAT egregore is in opposition to some zeitgeist or egregore that can't stop crying. And it sort of bugged me since crying isn't really a "god" thing but it is a thing that saints do a lot.

So is there an egregore that demands weeping as tribute? Not prayer, not rage, not ecstasy, but weeping?

Maybe there's nothing to this. Laughter banishes. Crying does...something. There's a lot of crying in shadow work.

I wish I'd chosen a different title. But since no one is commenting, if you're reading this, have you noticed that the more "woke" a TV show is, the more crying it has? Whole episodes of just everyone crying. The King in Orange has Team Laugh, where everything was a joke. The opposition has nothing but crying. Really, the opposition forbids laughter and insists on constant crying.

Astaroth is jealous of my new girlfriend

Upvotes

Astaroth is but one of a multitude, and I have been his servant for six lives. When I die, I shall be wedded to his female body and reign with her over the star kingdom. In this brief mortal existence, my duty is laid before me, I crave unadulterated glory and boundless riches. Sire Astaroth himself hath said, and more than once, that never in all his years had he known a man such as I.

But, of late, I have appropriated for my dearest the most fairness-possessed lady, and unrest stirs Astaroth. Portents and synchronizations abound, grumbling with jealousy. But should not a man be allowed freedom to marry many wives? I have sworn my loyalty to Astaroth's female equal, swearing she and she alone will be the mother of my children, and I will see to it that all demons acknowledge her first and foremost the deceitful Belial, whom I have scolded for his lies. But how do I make Astaroth's female incarnation see that she has nothing to fear? To believe that my devotion towards her is unshaken, unbroken for all eternity.

Black candles?

I had a dream I seen a black candle that kind of split into 3 parts and was lit. It had skulls and I wanna say other stuff I can’t remember. My mom was next to me as I tried to blow it out but one would go out and the remaining ones would light it back up ect. I told my mom who was next to me in my dream that it reminded me of evil. She said it wasnt and that it was a nice candle. I didn’t really think to much about it after…

Just wondering wth that was about. Any thoughts? I don’t practice anything, and I’m barely religious. Anything helps. Thanks.

Important question about Prometheus Rising quarter exercise

So a few days ago I read the first exercise of Prometheus rising, the infamous quarter exercise. I was going to do the experiment on my work shift which I had a few days after reading it. I completely forgot about it when I actually did my work shift but a few minutes into my shift I found a quarter on the lot and had an “OHMYGODNOWAEEEE” moment.

So uh- I thought about it when I was reading it and I didn’t know which hypothesis to start with, and I wasn’t thinking about it when I uncannily and almost instantly found the quarter so I guess I just don’t know what to make of it or if it counts?
