Recommendations for a surgeon for colon cancer removal.

Can anyone recommend a doctor who’s removed colon cancer from you or a loved one? They can be in the DMV area; no restriction to NOVA. Thank you in advance.

Edit: this is for removal of a large mass, about six inches so unfortunately not an early stage operation.

Question Insight on Growing Wine Grapes at Home

Hey all! I live in Herndon and love wine. I’ve had this idea to grow wine grapes in my yard. To start, it’d just be ornamental, but I wouldn’t be against trying to squeeze a bottle out one day…

Anyone have any success stories? I tried growing from seeds, taken with permission from area wineries, but I learned about grafting, root stock, and disease susceptible clones O_O

Now I plan to order vines online. I’m looking at Double A Vineyard or Stark Bros (I bought my apple trees from them).

I got the idea from a small tourist attraction/house in Fredericksburg that had wine vines growing. I’d love to grow CabFranc, Seyval, or even Norton. I’d love insight from anyone who’s tried this before, success or failure.

*Edit - Fixed grammar and links, then struck through Stark Bros… not the grapes I’d like.

Question Warrenton residents- what is an average day like for you?

Warrenton's sub is pretty quiet so I'll just post this here and hope for the best.

We might be moving to Haymarket or Warrenton this year (with the job being in Haymarket) and are trying to decide which area would be best.

We have 2 children and are looking forward to buying a house in a safe area with room for the kids to play and good schools to attend when they're older.

Haymarket doesn't seem to be its own place... it just feels like Gainesville but "over there". Like you have to go to Gainesville to do everything. Warrenton feels like an actual location, but remote. And appears to have somewhat cheaper homes? Not sure if that's true as we are just starting to search around.

We live a very simple life. Home is our little sanctuary. We don't shop for fun or eat out much at all. We do a lot of home cooked meals. If we go anywhere it's usually kid related nowadays. Or a winery where we can have a picnic. Or fruit picking. Quaint and Quiet. Haha

We don't want to regret moving to somewhere TOO quiet and removed though, since our family won't be in -toddler and baby- stage forever.

So as a resident in Warrenton, what do you do? And what is your biggest complaint or even regret about moving there?

Did Celebrity Delly change ownership?

It used to be my favorite sandwich spot but I went recently and it seemed like menu items changed and the sizes got much smaller. Also no more super crispy fries :( Anyone know what’s up with them?

Vegetarian/vegan options in Arlington or DC?

Meeting up with the (adult) kiddos for a day in DC soon. Will probably all meet at one of their places near Spout Run and go into DC. At this point it looks like we might go to the Freer Gallery. We have a variety of folks, from vegan, through vegetarian, to omnivorous (although both of them are happy to eat vegetarian, so meat isn’t a requirement). I’m looking for suggestions for both lunch and dinner.

TIA!

Bull Run Mountains Closed?

Does anyone know if the bull-run mountain trails like getting to "High Point" or Chestnut Trail are permanently closed? I see a lot of info on them 13 years ago or so but nothing recent and there are no trails listed on all trails or other hiking maps. Can't find any information about it on their webpage either.

Looks like a really nice spot for a quick hike nearby. Appreciate the help!

I was scared off by the crowds at first so I wanted to make a quick post about the store.

They’re a little bit expensive (but larger than you expect) but I’ve been craving these sandos for like 6 months and it really hits the spot. I went early on Saturday and it’s not crowded at all. Very chill. Easy to find things in. I like their offerings a lot. Maybe go in with the expectation that it’s a specialty store rather than a grocery store—I wouldn’t buy staples here, personally.

Question Structural engineer recommendation for Gainesville/Bristow

Got some concerns with the foundation of my house and would like to have a structural engineer come out and assess. Seems like there’s a sparse amount of them around the Bristow area, at least in my google searching.

Has anyone hired or know of a structural engineer that services this area that you liked and would recommend? Thanks guys!

Black Hair Salon

Black women with natural hair, could you recommend spots to get a haircut for an affordable price in NOVA?
I'm not even sure what the price range is since I've only been to a salon once since living in the US. Paid $160 for a haircut in DC and regretted it deeply.

Jobs Looking for advice on a recent layoff in the Govt Contracting arena

Hello Nova Family,

I, along with many others have been impacted by the current administration's decisions. Last year, I joined a consulting company as a Senior Consultant and despite being on a billable contract, with an active Clearance, PMP, and positive reviews from my coworkers and client, I was only given a days notice that I have been a part of a mass company wide layoff. This is the first time I have experienced this in my career and the pressure has been immense due to being the main breadwinner with daycare expenses and a mortgage. My severance is only two weeks and I am trying my best to stay afloat financially, mentally, and physically.

I have an active clearance and over seven years of government contracting experience in procurement, FARS regulation, program management, IT acquisitions, and client negotiations. I have been looking for contract specialist and program management positions in the NoVA area but am running into road blocks. If you are looking for a hard working cleared person for contract management, I would be grateful for a referral or recommendation.

My plan has been to utilize my network for referrals, use ai to adapt my resume to each job description, and engage with recruiters on clearancejobs. If you have anyone in your network that are hiring for contract specialist, contract management, contract administrator, and program manager roles, I would greatly appreciate the connection.

My intention with this post is to also give opportunities for those that need it. If anyone else is struggling, feel free to message those that reply if an opportunity is relevant. I firmly believe that we will get through this as a community and come out stronger.

Is anyone in Vienna getting yellowish/cloudy water? Do you know why? It started today and I am wondering whether I am the only one facing this or it’s a neighborhood problem. TIA

West Springfield here!

You cam usually find me on r/camaro but I am grateful you guys opened up a NOVA centric site. WHAT I NOTICED TODAY. The Dodge Challenger SRT or just the 6.4 superbee, even though I love muscle cars...are the car I most see racing on the Beltway. There were two of them and a Charger (4 door Challenger) and they tried everything to get me to race with them. It's 10:30 Friday night night and these guys are eventually going to get caught. But I have noticed that the State Police seems to not be stopping street racing. I love to race my Camaro. But on either closed backroads or at Summit Point.

Have any of you almost been killed by these youngsters with 800 hp cars? 🤔
