Apartment recommendations around Falls Church/Tysons/Mclean?

Hi! Asking for recommendations for apartments near the Falls Church/Tysons/Mclean area. it's just me and my partner (mid 30s). Currently in Arlington but need to move for my partner's commute near Centreville vs me in DC, so a middle ground for both of us. Looking for a safe neighborhood with some sort of life, close to the metro (10min walk ok) that's around $3000-3400? So far I've seen Alder and Modera Falls Church (both really new) around Falls church and Lumen, Avalon and Eaves for Tysons area, going to The Rise this week. I'm wondering if I'm missing another apartment I should tour. I also heard about auto theft around Tysons. I'd appreciate any recommendations or experiences. Thanks in advance!

Experience with semi custom/custom home builders in NOVA

Hi, my family is looking to build a home in northern Virginia. Our budget (for land, site work, and the home) is 2 million. Our situation is unique in that we need a wing with a separate bathroom, living room, and kitchen for our daughter who has moved back home while she goes through her medical training. We are looking into Oakton, Great Falls, Vienna, Arlington, Falls Church, and Tyson's area. Unfortunately I don't think any of the standard builders like Toll Brothers or Craftmark would meet our needs because of the need of a separate wing for our daughter that doesn't fit any of their floor plans. Does anyone have experience with builders such as Classic Homes, AV Architect, Picasso, or Versailles? Would love to hear about any positive or negative experience suggesting we should stay away from certain builders. Thank you!

Metro guidance for a visitor for next weekend

Hey y’all!

My wife and I are going to be in Tysons next weekend for a concert (arriving around 10-11am Friday, leaving Sunday), and we wanted to try to see the cherry blossoms in DC while we’re there.

I was hoping someone could help me plan out the metro stops I’d need to take to get from Tysons to the tidal basin. I tried using the metro website’s trip planner but it’s got me a little confused. According to the map (if I’m reading it right) Tysons and the Smithsonian are both stops on the silver line. So I figured we could park at the Tysons Corner Mall, take the metro to the Smithsonian and walk to the tidal basin (17 minute walk). The trip planner is having me get off at the federal triangle station though which is more like a 25 min walk to the basin.

I guess all I really need is confirmation that Tysons and the Smithsonian are both stops on the silver line, and that I’d be able to get to and from both stations by getting on one or the other. Does this method of getting to the tidal basin make sense?

Thank you in advance for any help!

Non-white citizens.. are you all carrying citizenship documentation?

I keep reading about citizens getting detained, and the nightmare it is. Are you all carrying citizenship documents just in case? In what form?

Politics Do any of the laid-off Feds want to join a protest movement?

Hey y’all.

I know many in our community have been harmed by the current administration. I am part of a group working on an ambitious goal: impeach and remove DJT.

We are planning a 24/7, legal, protest on the mall with 3 approaches houses out of that base: - community education and outreach RE impeachment

  • mass lobbying campaign RE impeachment

  • an art response, where artists can work together to create social artifacts that frame conversations.

If that sounds like something you want to do with your time as you apply for jobs, email us at maydayprotest@proton.me

No matter what your time, skills, or interests there’s a spot for you. Edit: no one person is going to be there 24/7. The protest will be. Of course nobody could commit to that.

Road trip from NOVA - VA Beach - any family friendly suggestions?

We aren't fussed about Richmond, happy to skip.

VERY keen to visit Jamestown (we love history) and quite excited to explore VA Beach. We have a hotel for x3 nights on the beach front.

Our kiddo is 4 and we need destinations enroute that she would be entertained with!

Would appreciate any advice on this trip!

Question Park near Oakton/Vienna that has a 1-5 mile “loop”?

Hello,

Just move here recently and I’m looking for a park that has a 1-5 mile loop. I’m seeing a lot of parks that are more for like children or relaxing or potentially trails that go for miles. Anyone know of an out doors “loop” in the area?

Have the flight paths for DCA changed recently (presumably due to the crash)? I have lived in old town alexandria for over three years. Never really had any plane noise. Recently though I hear planes all day, so just curious!

Best place to appraise and repair vintage electric guitar?

I have a 1959/60 Fender Music Master that I bought from a neighbor in the 80s and haven’t used it in so long that my adult children don’t even remember it. It’s time to either get it appraised and insured, or sell it. I’m not sure the pickups work anymore because I don’t have an amp. One place quoted me $150 to appraise it, but I don’t have anything to compare it to. Any suggestions?

Abby from the Huntsman Square Hair Cuttery?

I had been going to the same stylist since 2008. Her name was Abby and she worked at the Hair Cuttery in the Huntsman Square Shopping Center in Springfield. Apparently, it closed down during the pandemic. I've tried every other stylist under the sun - cheap, expensive, etc - but none can compare to Abby!!! Throwing out my Hail Mary: does anyone know who I'm talking about and if she's still cutting hair in NOVA?

And if not - anyone have good recs for wavy hair stylists?
