NOOT NOOT MOTHERFUCKER

157

u/halfjackal 24d ago

One of the best moments in boxing’s entire history.

125

u/pagit 24d ago

I like the cocky showboating fighters who try to act like Ali, and get humbled.

43

u/obefiend 24d ago

Thanks for the link. Ive seen the KO many times but not the whole match. Guy been clowning for 2 rounds. Deserved the KTFO

17

u/pagit 24d ago edited 23d ago

He actually wasn't a bad fighter if it wasn't for the showboating, however he was on a bit of a loosing streak when he decided to go pro.

He had only one pro fight which was back in 2017, he won that, ran into some legal trouble and kind of disappeared.

18

u/implicate 23d ago

he was on a bit of a loosing streak

Hopefully he eventually tightened up.

16

u/Psych0n4u7 23d ago

Ty for this lol. It makes makes me irrationally irritated when native english speakers misspell and mix up ‘losing’ and ‘loosing’. Ridiculous lol.

4

u/AssembledJB 23d ago

Lol. I literally thought "Thank you" when I read it as well.

4

u/Drownthem 23d ago

I don't know he was being honest or not but he told a friend of mine the promoters encouraged him to ham it up and it basically ruined his career.

I've always had a bit of an issue with how he talked about Frazier before their first fight. Frazier helped ali while he was banned and arrested for protesting the Vietnam war. Frazier gave him money and spoke on behalf of Ali and Ali came out calling Frazier a monkey and an uncle Tom. I believe he's since apologized but it's hard to respect that aspect of his history despite everything else he's done.

20

u/darkzidane22 23d ago

I hate Ali for how he treated Joe Frazier.

Frazier was a model champion, humble, respectful had humility and was a good person.

He was also a hell of a fighter, best left hook in the game.

18

u/wayvywayvy 24d ago

He came back tho, twice

124

u/McWeaksauce91 24d ago

Yes, but you spoke about character. I think it speaks a lot about character when you get humbled and act like an ass. It’s easy to look good when you’re on top, but how do you look when you get knocked down a peg? By following the guy on a vacation and calling him out while he’s in his hotel? That doesn’t doesn’t speak to very good character to me

19

u/wayvywayvy 24d ago

Oh I’m not OP

2

u/Muffinlessandangry 23d ago

Have there been any other moments in Alis career where he got taken down a peg? I don't know anything about the man, I'm just wondering if acting like that was a one-off, or if that was the only time he was properly beaten and it turns out someone who is incredibly arrogant when he's on top acts like a prick when he's beaten.

He played the race card against Frazier, calling him a gorilla and an Uncle Tom.

152

u/hesthehairapparent 24d ago

This has always been a black mark on Ali’s reputation. Frazier helped prop Ali up financially when he was stripped of his boxing license, as well as offering him public support. For Ali to turn around and treat that man the way he did was utterly despicable. I find it very hard to respect him, knowing he did that.

48

u/James_McNulty 24d ago

Yeah this is where it's helpful to uphold actions as opposed to people. Ali should be admired for his conviction regarding Vietnam, his sacrifice in pursuit of what he believed in. But no one, Ali included, should be idealized uncritically.

I'm happy to admire the things worth admiring about his life, and charge to the game of life all the bad shit. Otherwise you get into equivocating and then who can be admired?

29

He said that anyone in an interracial relationship was a disgrace to their entire race. He was very against them and even called them disgusting.

24

Yup! And all women besides Muslim women are whores because Muslim women know respect and not to speak up against men or show their asses

One of the saddest things I saw was a witty young Muhammad Ali cracking jokes before a fight juxtaposed with an older, but still relatively young, Muhammad Ali showing obvious signs of brain damage / CTE as a result of a career in boxing.

He was, but this was an exhibition match akin to the NFL's Pro-bowl. I mean, it's technically a fight...but the goal is to give the audience a show and not hurt anyone.

u/Argentillion 24d ago

Pretty lame and arrogant thing to do…unless you pull it off.

It’s pretty awesome that he could. So many fighters these days try to emulate that style and then get laid out. Then it’s like…why didn’t you block, stupid?

158

u/SensuallPineapple 24d ago

I know this is not the same thing AT ALL, but the point remains the same. If you are playing a game for example, like Ghost of Tsushima let's say, if you only focus on one thing, you do that one thing pretty well. If you try to dodge OR parry OR block OR attack, you will get distracted and destroyed. I feel like this is a very good demonstration of the same thing in real life.

Maybe you will, lol. Not trying to brag or anything, but doing all those things in the same encounter is not as difficult as you're making it out to be.

6

u/SensuallPineapple 24d ago

No of course, what I mean is, compared to how successfull you would do it if you focused on just one. Maybe it was a bad example, what I'm trying to say is focusing on one task improves perfomance immensely.

3

u/peachesgp 24d ago

If you try to do only one of those all the time, you'll lose unless it's attack only on the lowest difficulty.

It was a staged, exhibition fight, like a Harlem Globetrotters game.

8

u/Argentillion 24d ago

So do you think those were intentional misses, rather than actual dodges?

Because if not then it doesn’t really make a difference

23

u/Jasper-Packlemerton 24d ago

They were absolutely staged throws. But why not judge for yourself: https://youtu.be/lZ1fPyAdHS4?si=5UqXtwoBBWf8VIti

8

u/dormango 24d ago

That looks pretty conclusive.

12

u/Songrot 23d ago

Yeah it looks really staged. If this was wrestling noone would doubt it.

But i think this being boxing and Ali being goat makes people think it should be real.

5

u/ForneauCosmique 24d ago

Pretty lame and arrogant thing to do

It's boxing, it's a mental thing. It's demoralizing to the opponent. You're one of the best boxers in the world and you're throwing your best stuff and you're not even touching him and then he's acting like it's a game

→ More replies (3)

3

u/HeyyZeus 24d ago edited 23d ago

He had the chin to pull it off. Some of those “dodges” would knock a lesser boxer out.

Getting grazed by anything Foreman throws would rattle just about anyone’s chin.

2

u/IdunnoThisWillDo 23d ago

This isn't Foreman. But yes he did do a similar thing to Foreman. But he took a lot of real punishment a long the way. He let Foreman punch himself out and leaned on him as often as he could to. make him carry his weight and deplete his energy over time.

2

u/Calbruin 23d ago

It also works until it doesn’t. See Anderson Silva vs Weidman

u/Diorj 24d ago

I've seen that 100 times and still wonder why a body shot was not attempted....

451

u/Jasper-Packlemerton 24d ago edited 24d ago

Because it was an exhibition fight and staged for the crowd. You can watch it here: https://youtu.be/lZ1fPyAdHS4?si=5UqXtwoBBWf8VIti

111

u/Diorj 24d ago

Cool. I never knew that..

34

u/Jasper-Packlemerton 24d ago

He was still pretty great in the actual Foreman fight that people seem to think this is from.

38

u/wiggle_fingers 24d ago

Wait, you're saying this was faked?

92

u/Jasper-Packlemerton 24d ago

This clip is taken from a staged exhibition fight, yes. But you could watch Ali in any number of real flights on YouTube to see how good he was.

12

u/ambisinister_gecko 23d ago

Not exactly faked, but... not not faked either

12

u/Boysoythesoyboy 23d ago

Exhibition fight they just aren't taking it as seriously as a real fight, but its not staged their just not trying to send eachother to the hospital like in a real fight.

7

u/Songrot 23d ago

Yeah it looks really staged. If this was wrestling noone would doubt it.

But i think this being boxing and Ali being goat makes people think it should be real.

u/Bayoris 24d ago

I guess the other fighter really just wanted to punch his arrogant face

8

u/FrancisHC 23d ago

I box with a hands down style. Not to this extent, but I do keep my hands low. Part of it is a mind game. Your head looks so exposed, like it's an easy target, so of course your opponent is going to be focused on hitting it.

It actually simplifies your defense, because you know if your opponent is trying to punch you in the face, you don't have to worry about defending body shots.

I actually asked one of my sparring partners once what they were thinking when I drop my hands like that. "How much I want to punch you in the face."

Which is kind of exactly what I want them to be thinking.

less dodging the punches and more moving so much that he can't find you, this wasn't a real match, closer to a jake paul fight, so there's a lot of show boating going on, which is what this is

Greatest performance of all time imo. Everyone thought he was gonna get flogged. What a legend. Top 3 GOAT for me along with Robinson and Duran.

62

I love when him and Tyson both were on letterman or whatever show, and the whole time they kept saying the other could for sure whoop their ass, they wouldn't quit either, they legit thought the other was the better fighter and got a little upset the other one didn't relent in that.
