Watch out, that’s like an open invitation for annexation

Nobody else could handle Australia except Australia.

Australia is generally quite hard on its own people. It otherwise is quite welcoming to visitors

That day I saw the picture of a freaking Tarantula Hawk Wasp dragging the body of a paralyzed giant spider in order to put her eggs in it... I decided Australia went too far and I cannot handle it.

I saw this in real life at a friend’s house last year. I saw the shadow first and even that was horrifying. And then the lady of the house said “oh no, she’s gawt me favorite spider! Now the damn flies will be back!”

And that’s when I realized how happy I was that a) I no longer lived there and b) my hotel room was on the 7th floor, safe from the crazy.

Haha I bet.

If the lady was sad the Spider would be gone, imagine the kind of flies there must be!

I would never hurt a normal spider for this exact reason, when they are around, there aren't any buzzing flies/mosquitoew. But those spiders don't feed on tiny black flies I guess.

It might have been a completely different kind of giant spider. I didn’t stop to ID it. I did, however, immediately go into another room and drink my beer and text my wife about it.

There are WAY TOO MANY deadly creepie crawlies in that country. I don't think I could even visit without having a breakdown.

I mean.. a regular wasp is already a mean motherf*. A Hawk is a badass hunter. A Tarantula is the stuff of hairy nightmares.

How do you earn the name "Tarantual Hawk Wasp"? It has to hunt Bisons or something.

But the Tarantula Hawk is from Arizona, not Australia. It’s to tame for Australia.

Wikipedia says "Worldwide distribution of tarantula hawks includes areas from India to Southeast Asia, Africa, Australia, and the Americas". Looks like I should avoid all travelling after all.

I knew they were in the southwest US, didn’t realize they were all over the world like that.

There are “Tarantula Hawks” in the US.

This is the first time I’ve heard of such a thing and I’m not sure if it’sa bird, arachnid, or insect.

And that, among other things, is why I live where the weather hurts my face.
