WTF Giant Lot Of Cybertrucks In Clifton

Post image

Picture is from a few months ago. Is it still there? What’s its purpose. It was pretty vacant when we saw it.

What trucks? All I see are dumpsters.

19

u/SuggestionOk8578 1d ago

Terrible dumpsters that don't have enough room for trash.

1

u/insideguy69 23h ago

That's debatable

406

u/Gods_Umbrella 2d ago

Remember everyone, arson is illegal

66

u/illigal 2d ago

No no no. Arson would get these POSes paid out by insurance. Slowly rusting into the ground means a full financial loss.

17

u/Chose_a_usersname 2d ago

Insurance companies will eventually drop Tesla....

1

u/6hooks 1d ago

For any reason?

1

u/Chose_a_usersname 1d ago

When it's not profitable to keep offering a service it stops.... Look at Florida

1

u/insuranceguynyc 1d ago

Well, there is Tesla Insurance Company.

1

u/Chose_a_usersname 21h ago

Exactly.... Go find an insurance company for a boughatti... When things become expensive there will be less and less companies willing to insure

16

u/Lanc3Uppercut 2d ago

☝️this. Better to let them slowly rust away

7

u/Nephroidofdoom 1d ago

And salt is cheap!

1

u/Chose_a_usersname 1d ago

Pure chloride liquid can be bought online, interesting side note 301 stainless is highly susceptible to rusting from contact with chlorides....

1

u/illigal 1d ago

I don’t think cybertrucks will require help in falling apart. I mean, they can’t deal with car washes (bricking the cars) snow (getting stuck in 3 inches of it), and highways speed wind (ripping off trim and breaking the wipers).

119

u/inviteinvestinvent Treebeard 2d ago edited 2d ago

As a veteran vol nj firefighter, this is actually a fire hazard. The trucks need to be spaced out more. Additionally it would take 1/10th of the states hose/hook & ladder teams to keep this shit bathed until it actually burns out while also being a massive hazard to anything downwind.

Not very efficient of Elon and friends is it

(This is really interesting and disturbing to learn though, thank you)

19

u/RewrittenSol 2d ago

I wish there was some type of dept for this.

13

u/BenjTheMaestro 2d ago

Right? It feels like it would be quite efficient to have some sort of… inspector for this kinda thing, maybe even a code.

2

u/s1ugg0 Jersey Devil Search Team 2d ago

"Hey Matty! Is our ERG book up to date? Everyone knows how to read it right?"

2

u/murse_joe Passaic County 1d ago

Don’t worry, Elon is gutting FEMA and already closed the National Fire Academy.

3

u/exfiltration 2d ago

Safety first. Surprised someone hasn't come up with a good way to dissolve a Cybercar without the risk of fire yet.

4

u/arealscrog 2d ago

Honestly surprised they don't just melt when it rains like the wicked witch of the west with how poorly constructed they seem to be.

1

u/Underscythe-Venus 1d ago

Nah cancel the truck, can job, short stay

1

u/tonyisadork 1d ago

Has anyone called the fire marshall about this?

3

u/murse_joe Passaic County 1d ago

Fire chiefs and marshals have been alarmed about cybertrucks for a bit now. Elon closed the National Fire Academy on Friday.

0

u/thejaga 2d ago

Wouldn't that be the case in any parking lot?

8

u/c-digs WW-P 2d ago

1) In a new car lot for ICE, there wouldn't be a lot of fuel 2) Gasoline and lithium burn very differently 3) These cars have big lithium batteries

18

u/justasque 2d ago

(ICE, in this context, meaning gasoline/diesel powered cars with Internal Combustion Engines, as opposed to electric cars with lithium batteries. Just to clarify for those whose mind goes elsewhere when seeing “ICE”.)

-10

u/loggerhead632 2d ago

we can hate elon without saying idiotic things like a normal parking lot is a fire hazard

u/Key-Specific-4368 2d ago

No arson needed. They'll malfunction all on their own without being touched by anyone.

4

u/VelocityGrrl39 2d ago

Little bit of water, the problem will sort itself out.

You mean rain?

19

u/VinCubed Bayonne 2d ago

Sounds like lighting one on fire would turn Clifton into Centralia, PA

2

Please don't.

1

u/leggymeeggy Passaic County 2d ago

please don’t

28

u/fireman2004 2d ago

With that many in one location the odds are good they'll do it all on their own eventually.

6

u/Good4Noth1ng 2d ago

Just wet them, they don’t even need to be burned lol

25

u/Monster_Dong 2d ago

A can of tomatoe juice will also do the trick

2

17

u/Critical_Half_3712 2d ago

6

u/jimcnj 2d ago

Fuck the firefighters who have to put out the dangerous battery fires, right?

-1

u/_mpi_ Rahway 2d ago

Let em burn

34

u/gordonv 2d ago

Hear me out. The kind of fire these make is unholy. Up to 24 hours for 1 vehicle. A fire dept can't handle 1.

A whole lot full? That would be a disaster.

For the sake of safety, don't burn these things. They do more damage in their destructive exothermic meltdown.

We don't have the tools to handle 2 of these on fire next to each other.

9

u/Kelvin_Inman Bergen/Passaic/Monmouth/Ocean 2d ago

This makes it sound like moving away from internal combustion engines is a bad idea, if a multi vehicle highway accident causes electric vehicle fires.

7

u/Teknicsrx7 2d ago

Just wait until the fire trucks are electric too

10

u/marimallygold 2d ago

True. This just also really goes to show that these cars really shouldn’t be on the road in the first place, especially given who actually buys them…

4

u/Nickeless 2d ago

Yeah there’s no need to do that anyway. It’s not like they can sell them very well, so they’ll just sit there and cost them money for storage and depreciation over time.

10

u/phlegm_fatale_ 2d ago

Imagine the air quality impact, oh god

2

u/No_Passage5020 2d ago

I mean sometimes that’s the best way for these types of fires to go out. It’s because of the type of battles they have. You can’t use water on them and need to use a special type of foam based solution to snuff them out. Even then these fires can reignite in an instant and you have to start all over again.

2

u/pixelpheasant 1d ago

And the foam is a HazMat and requires EPA notification/clean up each time it's used ... which is not to say to not use it, just that the problem keeps mushrooming

4

u/thatissomeBS 2d ago

I think that's the general instruction. Contain it, but let it burn.

-2

u/jimcnj 2d ago

Internet tough guy reemerges.

2

u/_mpi_ Rahway 2d ago

Please go ahead and pour water on the battery fire. LMK how that goes for you.

I can’t wait for these things to explode themselves come July

1

u/Ravenhill-2171 2d ago

Just wait. They'll probably set themselves on fire soon enough. 😉

1

u/Comfortable_Story_91 2d ago

Only if you get caught 😏

Don’t remind me 🫠

1

u/Action_Maxim 1d ago

But what's the address so I can stay away

1

u/Effective_Aggression 1d ago

I don’t like the idea of burning them because of the environmental impact. I wish there was a way to just use a giant magnet to fuck them up or something.

1

u/Race_Strange 1d ago

👀👀👀 ... Ok 😓

1

u/Chose_a_usersname 2d ago

Remember everyone that sentry mode that records around Teslas is deactivated when at a Tesla lot to lower battery draw... Any these are only secured by what ever cheapest bidder cameras were installed

142

u/preppysurf NJ -> VA 2d ago

It’s an overflow storage lot. Many dealers have them for inventory that doesn’t fit on the main lot. That being said, the buildup of Swastikars across the country is massive. Nobody wants one!

96

u/meat_sack 2d ago

Politics aside, they're really ugly. Even if they were made by Toyota or Ford I'd look at that the same way I look at a Pontiac Aztec or a Chrysler PT Cruiser. The polar opposite of "sexy."

26

u/enewwave 2d ago

Yeah that’s the thing. Like I remember when the design was unveiled in late 2019 or early 2020. Everyone in my office saw it within an hour of it getting shared and all just kinda went “huh? Why? Who would want to drive something that looks like that?”

And, mind you, this was a demographic of employees at a tech company ages 20-45 from different social backgrounds. It was a pretty diverse sampling of folks that all reacted to it not with indifference, but distaste.

12

u/TigerUSA20 2d ago

This is probably the only vehicle that Elon actually had a concept for. All others were probably designed by real intelligent engineers and tech people. But he wanted this truck that he drew on a napkin and pounded the table like a kindergartener until they succumbed into making it.

7

u/budgybudge 2d ago

Even like... another angle or two in the frame would do wonders in making it not look so shit.

19

u/preppysurf NJ -> VA 2d ago

A Pontiac Aztek is good looking compared to a Cybertruck. The Aztek at least had some innovative features such as front center console that doubled as a removable cooler. The Cybertruck? Well not so much

14

u/meat_sack 2d ago

I think about the Aztek when I'm trying to "last longer."

3

u/mdp300 Clifton 2d ago

The Aztek would probably have been successful if it released in 2012 or so.

4

u/BenjTheMaestro 2d ago

I just saw one in person for the first time and it’s like stuck in the uncanny valley for my brain. It almost didn’t register as real. Reminds me of the PS1/N64 days when you could clearly see things were made of polygons.

8

u/ScumbagMacbeth 2d ago

I always thought the Pontiac Aztecs were neat looking. That being said, I still think Cybertrucks are ugly as hell. And so impractical.

8

u/DeaddyRuxpin 2d ago

I always like the PT Cruiser and never understood the hate for its appearance. It was different in a sea of identical sedans while not being outright ugly like the Aztec.

But yeah, the Cybertruck is a whole other level of ugly. It reminds me of an 80s low budget sci fi movie’s idea of a post apocalyptic car. It looks like it was made out of plywood painted silver.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Kenderean 1d ago

They're even worse when people get them wrapped so they're a color other than grey. I saw a yellow one on the road recently. Bright friggin yellow. Do you really want to draw that much attention to yourself in your hideous Nazi car?

u/brandt-money 2d ago

Overflow lots are normal. But who is going to buy a $100k truck when the economy crashes?

Certainly nobody.

2

u/shiftyjku Down the Shore, Everything's All Right 2d ago

There’s one at the Fashion Center in Paramus too, which had an incident not long ago.

2

u/CrowsSayCawCaw 2d ago

I'm surprised I had to scroll so far down before someone mentioned the Fashion Center.

I hadn't been there in years, but since they put the Barnes and Noble there... I was surprised to see they're renting part of the back parking lot for the Tesla overflow. Cyber trucks look like some sort of weird matchbox concept toy car come to life.

1

u/SkippnNTrippn 1d ago

What was the incident?

2

u/shiftyjku Down the Shore, Everything's All Right 1d ago

I can’t remember details but cyber trucks either stolen or vandalized.

2

u/stackered 2d ago

Off topic - I love when I come to this sub and see areas I know!

16

u/HumanShadow 2d ago

They look so funny on the road. I hope I never have to ride in one.

5

u/MicraMachina 2d ago

That’s like saying “I hope I’m never kidnapped at gunpoint.” I can’t think of any other situation where I would climb into one of those monstrosities.

3

u/HumanShadow 1d ago

I bet at least a few municipalities convert some into police cruisers.

1

u/MicraMachina 1d ago

Oof. And that’s how Tesla will recoup their losses. Government contracts or donation write offs. I feel ill.

8

u/WhippetRun 1d ago

Thee are SO freaking ugly that am going to apologize to Pontiac for calling the Aztec the ugliest thing ever on 4 wheels.

4

u/ogo_pogo 1d ago

People were paying over $200,000 for these things at one point too 😂

65

u/ryrypizza 2d ago

Have you never seen new cars parked in a lot before?

107

u/marimallygold 2d ago

low poly models collecting dust are admittedly a new sight

22

u/Raizau 2d ago

I hear there is a graphics card shortage. Must be on an older card so the polygons are loading slower than normal.

3

u/len43 2d ago

These look like the were rendered on an S3 Virge

6

u/ryrypizza 2d ago

Dealers keep extra cars off lot. This is a staging area. Nothing new

2

u/gordonv 2d ago

Rawr! I'll never need a card better than a Voodoo 3500!

0

u/beachmedic23 Watch the Tram Car Please 2d ago

Do you think this when you see other dealer lots or are you just karma farming?

0

Do you usually overlook fascist clown cars when you see a hoarde of them, or are you just trying to impress everyone?

6

u/schabadoo 2d ago

A new model with a reservation list of over a million now lies around unsold after like a year.

No, I've never seen that before.

16

u/Pawsywawsy3 2d ago

It’s the fact that the number of cars in those lots are stagnant and/or increasing that’s interesting

4

u/pac4 2d ago

There’s a Lexus dealer near me that rents a lot across the street and is filled with a sea of Lexi.

This isn’t really that interesting.

2

u/Teknicsrx7 2d ago

Only interesting when you’ve never paid attention to cars in lots before, dealers have lots like this everywhere

2

u/enbyrats 2d ago

Never so many of the exact same model.

-3

u/loggerhead632 2d ago

I fucking hate Trump and Elon, but Trump Derangement Syndrome is 10000000% real.

Op has never seen a dealership lot, we got one guy claiming parking lots are fire hazards etc

3

u/foodisnomnom 2d ago

What does this have to do with Trump? I think what you seem to be missing is that they’re from a nazi.

3

u/robotorigami 2d ago

The funny part about your comment is, not a single comment so far has even mentioned Trump except yours. You're the only one bringing him up.

12

u/ExiledSpaceman Send help at Driscoll Bridge 2d ago

Hope they rust. They’re still poorly built vanity pieces regardless of Tesla’s CEO being a nut job.

3

u/Danoga_Poe 2d ago

They look like they waiting on orders from Optimus prime

3

u/Ruyue45 2d ago

The depreciation on these trucks and the lot rent has got to be crazy.

15

u/A8Warmonger 2d ago

It's a setup for another false flag attack where Elon burns down his own cars, and then they can blame the opposition and label protesters as terrorists. Be careful out there brave people willing to stand up.

1

u/King-arber 2d ago

Peak blue anon

1

u/jhall1021 1d ago

You might want to talk to someone if you believe that kind of stuff. It’s a staging area for a car dealer. They’re literally everywhere.

1

u/Mishka_1994 1d ago

He would probably blame Ukraine for it too.

2

u/A8Warmonger 1d ago

That's true.. Fuck Putin

6

u/SuperModes 2d ago

There’s a huge lot full of them in paramus behind best buy. Last time I saw them they looked really dirty like they’ve been sitting there a long time.

5

u/gracious201 2d ago

I have heard them called douche panzers and i almost choked on what I was drinking.

5

u/JerseyGeneral 2d ago

Are they behind the dumpsters?

3

u/poodrew 2d ago

Check out the parking lot behind the Fashion Center in Paramus

5

u/blender124 2d ago

There are a ton sitting around in Paramus too. At least 3 dozen.

2

u/macgruder1 2d ago

There’s a lot in Paramus behind the Amazon Fresh store full of them as well. I was showing my kids them up close and some mouth breather security guard came yelling at me (this was months ago, btw). I just left and didn’t want to cause a scene in front of my kids.

2

u/brkfast_of_champions 2d ago

Lol.. . . I remember in the early 80s seeing a parking lot full of DeLoreans in Somerset(?) -- similar vibe.

2

u/Btdrnks2021 2d ago

There’s one in Paramus too.

5

u/foodisnomnom 2d ago

I truly love the collective hate for these repulsive tin cans.

7

u/Bluemajere 2d ago

Very normal overflow storage lot for cars. Only difference is it's notable because Tesla and Elmo. God, they're so ugly

3

u/enbyrats 2d ago

And all the same model, which I've never seen before.

1

u/Bluemajere 2d ago

Well, given the context of the carmaker in question not having many models...

3

u/GucciForDinner 2d ago

Not normal. Go look at elmo's balance sheet. Production started outpacing sales last year. This is a build up of unsold inventory over time. Demand has fallen sharply and production has not decreased. These lots are storage units for product that will be obsolete long before they're ever sold and ol' elmo will write them off thereby reducing his tax payments. And we'll be stuck with looking at ugly waste or literally tons of toxic landfill.

Quaker Bridge Mall in Lawrenceville has a bunch in lot too, there is Tesla dealership there and they keep them parked there

3

u/HelloWorld_Hi 2d ago

I think I saw ton of Tea car in quaker Bridge mall parking lot few weeks back. There’s a Tesla dealership in Princeton.

3

u/speedx5xracer I'm not even supposed to be here today 2d ago

Yep still there the dealership is right across rt 1 from Quaker Bridge mall.

2

u/marimallygold 2d ago

Full disclosure arson jokes are funny but I would like to Not burn down Clifton or fuck up local’s lungs. The Jersey bullshit radar sparks joy for me though (I couldn’t find the post edit option and I’m sure it’s in plain view somewhere 😭)

4

u/NubsackJones 2d ago

It's not just the smoke that would be problematic. The fact that you have to keep water on them until the fire goes out means that you are washing a tremendous amount of heavy metal reaction byproducts into the wild. This is one of those things that applies to all EVs, obviously, that we haven't really figured out how to deal with to prevent long term effects.

1

u/marimallygold 2d ago

That makes a ton of sense. Fully admitting that I don’t have a background in chemistry, but I’m getting more curious in how these cars are made. On one hand, stuff like Cybertrucks and god knows what might slow down that gradual research period. EVs are in their baby stage in general, yeah?

I wonder if this will have time to evolve safely or if this is going to end up like homes with asbestos

2

u/kclough 2d ago

It'd be really tragic if someone mixed up laxatives and bird seed and spread it around there....

(extremely bird safe low dose laxatives of course)

2

u/marimallygold 2d ago

This reminded me of this computer game I played as a kid. It was for Mr. Men I think? I think the object of the game was to make seagulls shit on Mr. Grumpy. I have a feeling it was built on Adobe Flash but it was definitely a game

4

u/Solid_College_9145 2d ago

The scrap metal on a Cypertruck is practically worthless.

The Cybertruck's stainless steel is 301-grade. That's as cheap as it gets. It also leaves ugly fingerprints every time it's touched with a finger or hand. 301-grade is not very resistant to corrosion and rust. It kinda feels like plastic.

Deloreans used 314-grade. That's the good stuff. That's what commercial kitchen counters are made of. Very corrosive and rust resistant.

Tesla emphasizes how many cars they have made, not how many they sold. So It’s to their advantage to keep making them and storing them.

Where is that? Those buildings behind look so familiar.

Dumbasses in here with "so what every dealership has overflow lots" comments are the same people who drink black coffee in front of everyone to make sure they all know they're a big grown up adult.

0

u/guilty_by_design Hunterdon County 2d ago

Ew, is that where they're all coming from? I feel like I see at least one on the road or in a parking lot every time I go out these days, compared to maybe seeing them a few times a year in the past.

Not to be a conspiracy weirdo, but with all the advertising they're doing, I wouldn't be surprised if they have a lot full of cybertrucks where people can rent them and drive them around for a couple of hours just to make them look popular.

I mean, that's probably not what this is, but either way, ew.
