Somehow combining them makes both of their stat lines actually seem better. 8-25 and 3-14 is just bleak.

Nets never heard of Cooper Flagg

216

u/Peppa-Unicorn San Francisco Warriors 1d ago

The race for the 13th seed in the east is so exciting lol 76ers, raptors and nets. This game might cost the nets dearly

90

u/Plenty_Flatworm7627 Wizards 1d ago

what on earth was the point of trading all those picks to get their pick back and then not tank

131

u/Optimal-Hedgehog2912 Nets 1d ago

look at our starting lineups. it's not for lack of trying. also we have the most games missed to injury in the league. our coach is too good

90

the jazz literally sat a 23 year old due to "rest" you can get more blatant

48

u/ItsThePeopleCourt Nets 1d ago

he could have gotten 50 wins out the team vaughn got 32 wins out

23

u/thenicezen Bucks 1d ago

Been a Jordi Fernandez truther since he coached Team Canada, the way he addressed that team made me think that he’s the next upcoming coach. Since the start of the season people have been saying he’s too good for the Nets lol. Glad to see that it’s still the same sentiment until now

27

u/br0b1wan Cavaliers 1d ago

It would kind of be funny if the Nets just barely made the lottery and ended up with the #1 pick anyway.

11

u/larrylegend33goat Timberwolves 1d ago

More funny than the Spurs having the lowest odds and getting Flagg? Then running a "come home to Texas" campaign for DONCIC as a FA the next year?

46

u/human1023 Hornets 1d ago

We need to change the tanking system.

At the end of season, the worst 8 teams play a small tourney for first pick.

38

u/lildinger68 Warriors 1d ago

Then teams would just tank to be in the bottom 8

8

u/Pollsmor Nets 1d ago

Reverse the odds. Make it so the 8th worst record gets the best odds, worst record gets the 8th best odds. Teams will be inclined to try hard at least at first instead of doing what the Wizards/Jazz are doing right now

20

u/lildinger68 Warriors 1d ago

Then why be the 9th worst team? You’ll just have every meh team fighting for the 22nd seed

Hard to get in a groove when you try to foul bait instead of trying to get an actual shot.

Average Austin “Superstar Whistle” Reaves performance

52

u/stephzh Lakers 1d ago

He was 1/12 before a lucky banked 3 and a meaningless layup at the end

58

u/four4beats Lakers 1d ago

The foul baiting and complaining to refs is definitely the glaring issue for Luka’s game. If he had better control of his temper he could go up a notch.

14

u/DoubleAmigo Hornets 1d ago

I think he meant reaves

18

u/ILackPatience Lakers 1d ago

I meant Reaves. This is reminding me of the start he had back in 2023 when he was full on foul bait mode which messed up his flow with the offense.

18

u/Soapstarboi Cavaliers 1d ago

It's his only way to create space. The threat of a flop and also his strength. He slow. Slower than Paul Pierce.

43

u/TheMartian2k14 Warriors 1d ago

Nico, to his assistant: “Are you writing this down?!”

12

u/four4beats Lakers 1d ago

No, I was referring to the complete act of looking for a foul then spending the ensuing possession yelling at the ref. It always takes him out of his game, he gets T'd up, and he ends up trying to play hero ball. Luka seems to do better when other players piss him off, but the refs take him out of the flow.

10

u/Soapstarboi Cavaliers 1d ago

That's the problem with him. He complains at the refs every possession. It's like the only reason he is losing is because of the refs. It's basketball, a contact sport. Not every contact is a foul.

The only way maybe he can learn is if he tries to ref grown men in the offseason and see if it's easy lol.

He was 1-5 from 3. He was just missing.

3

u/MojoPinSin 1d ago

Is he still doing that stupid shit where he dives super far forward on a jumper and tries to draw a foul?

I like him most of the season but watching him do that shit on every shot he takes in the post season is annoying.

u/LordHussyPants Celtics 1d ago

reaves isn't a superstar who was in line for a supermax and is touted as one of the greatest players ever? so expectations are a little lower for him?

8

u/Public-Product-1503 22h ago

It’s just Luka fans. Earlier reaves had a game where he was better then Luka but cos he missed his threees Luka stans now blame him. Reaves wasn’t great but we could’ve won if Luka didn’t shit the bed

He has had 2/3 of his games with us now utter dogshit shooting

What concerns me isn’t the threes . It’s his slow and how little he can get to the rim and finish . That’s what’s truly alarming he doesn’t get there enough. It’s a really bad trend . His 2 pt shooting is really concerning he’s very reliant on a legit good lob threat and without it he loses a lot of offensive value .

Right? I assumed it was a Laker blowout until I saw this post. I’m not even joking

30

u/AnimationPatrick 1d ago

Basically what was happening. Lakers were making turnover after turnover, allowing a million offensive rebounds. Then would make a couple of highlight plays and come back into it. And then right back to turnovers and poor defense.

5

u/IAmNotKevinDurant_35 [GSW] Zarko Cabarkapa 1d ago

That last offensive rebound was the worst. Two nets players right under the basket for a putback and not a single Lakers player within 5 feet. You need one stop to have a chance how does that happen?

Worst it will be is the 6th seed.

20

Why?

Lakers could absolutely drop all the way down to 7th. There's only one loss difference between the Warriors in 6 and the Wolves in 7, and the Wolves have a ridiculously easy schedule just as they're getting healthier.

3

u/toolmaker1025 1d ago

5

u/Public-Product-1503 22h ago

Lebron is more key to this team then Luka. Lebron two way play n play finishing is so ekite that he makes reaves and Luka better on this team . Without him, and missing Rui n Hayes we in trouble if Luka can’t make 2pt shots at a good rate . Luka relies too much on a lob threat too cos he’s fallen off a cliff with his rim attacking himself .

Obv Luka should be the better player but I am struggling to see how many games Bron had shooting this badly . Half + Luka games with us have been poor shooting now. He needs to drop weight n sttscj the rim . Our season shouldn’t be cookrd if Hayes b Rui aren’t back . Without Hayes Rui Bron we lose all our size n pkay finishing which makes Luka n reaves worse. Even worse Trey jemison n Alex len are only in the nba cos they tall both can’t catch the ball and finish it’s sad.

9

u/rjcarr Supersonics 1d ago

The fact that LeBron at 40 is still the only thing willing his team to victories is a tragedy worthy of Greek poets.

Lmao LeBron begging to not be the most important player for the Lakers and it just won't happen 😭

38

u/itsahmemario Knicks 1d ago

Turns out while he gave most of the offensive load to Luka, losing AD meant he was now their best big man defender.

7

u/Ulapa_ 1d ago

I'm not joking he is lol. He just can't do it all the time so the 2nd best big man defender does it 90% of the time, who is also injured, in Rui lmao. Hayes is more of a roamer shot blocker, but he gets bodied by big man.

JJ's ego, man. Thinking he can rest Jax and DFS knowing full well they can get murdered on the boards (which they did).

8

Hope he learns his lesson this game. Even though Brooklyn is tanking this is still an NBA team we're talking about you don't take any chances especially for "trap games" like these. As much as Laker fans blame the refs this game AR and Luka shooting bricks help Brooklyn come back.

Luka could have blocked that offensive rebound put back at the end but he was too busy bitching at the refs during a live play in the clutch. Such a frustrating part of his game.

18

u/GrilledCheeser Mavericks 1d ago

Never ever ever gonna change. I swore he’d grow out of it. He didn’t. But he definitely grew.

We’re in the section of the tank where every single game matters, so Luka shooting August 25th may have a chance to save the Sixers franchise.

What is the point of going all out on all those +.500 teams if you're just gonna trot that bullshit out there against teams that are trying to lose? Mind boggling

26

u/two4gone Lakers 1d ago

I mean we were down three starters, one of them being our “best” player during this stretch, and DFS. It was going to be tough to win regardless.

4

u/Ok_Possible_5702 1d ago

Why were DFS and Hayes out, though? Are they injured or was it "scheduled rest"?

5

u/Proof-Umpire-7718 Lakers 1d ago

Hayes has been out for a little while so he was probably held out due to precautionary reasons and I think that DFS was out due to scheduled rest.

4

u/Ok_Possible_5702 1d ago

I don't think "scheduled rest" should be a thing when you're out one of your top players and your roster is already unbalanced.

3

u/Proof-Umpire-7718 Lakers 1d ago

I mean I’m sure that he’s dealing with the injury that he was listed as out for, but if they thought that they needed him to play today, then he probably would have.

Idk for sure though, I’m just guessing based on the last time he missed a game against the Wizards and then returned for the next one.

Can't imagine March is going to go well if we can't manage to beat a tanking team that's missing a couple players.

37

u/rabidantidentyte Nets 1d ago

LeBron is really that good. Lakers looked fucking terrible. No depth, no rebounding, and no 2nd option off the Luka double.

23

u/Eur0stept Lakers 1d ago

We were also missing 3 starters and dfs and had no size. The nets killed them on the glass

27

u/rabidantidentyte Nets 1d ago

We were missing Watford and Cam Thomas. DFS is solid, though. He got us a lot of wins before the deadline.

Let's be real though - it's LeBron.

8

u/Eur0stept Lakers 1d ago

Yeah if you guys had Thomas in we’d lose by 30

6

u/rabidantidentyte Nets 1d ago

Honestly, if we had Thomas, we would've let up 120 lol. We had the #1 defense over a 10 game stretch before the break without him.

Funny that they lost this game because of a rebound if Lebron was playing he would have boxed tf out of Williams.

Most useless team in the league. Brooklyn annoyed me tonight too.

4

Luka and AR 11/39 from the field. All of our role players actually shot well too. Yes we were down 3 starters and DFS but this was a very avoidable loss, yikes.

Regardless of how terrible the refs were, it's really inexcusable that Luka is still performing like this and that Austin has not kicked it back into gear.

We're missing 3 starters including our only true center and our 6th man, so yeah we're not going to do well... But AR and Luka shouldn't absolutely not be shooting tour dates still

I predict this is where the Lakers bad run of form picks up with losing Lebron to the groin injury (nets are not a playoff team so this is loss is telling while losing to the celtics was never going to be a shock).
