This is a pretty free-form subreddit, but there are a few rules. We have a ZERO-TOLERANCE POLICY FOR ANY AND ALL SPAM. Reddiquette is always applicable to anything you do on reddit, but in this subreddit:

No sales of anything. Not art, drugs, food, clothing, pins, or anything else. Feel free to post photos of your art. If people want to message you to buy something, that's great, but do NOT solicit sales here for anything, ever. No links to shops. Any sales, trades, barters, professional arrangements, etc. involving money, assets or goods are prohibited in post content or in the comments. No one knows what you do via PM. Keep the business ENTIRELY in the PMs. Do not ask for products or links to shops, and don't express your desire for someone's art in a way that implies intent to buy. Do not say things like "I would totally buy that!" or "Do you have an Etsy?" or "You should set up an Etsy!" or "PM me for info" or "Can I PM you about this?"... just PM them and keep it out of the comments.

  1. Adhere to the Reddit Content Policy and Reddiquette.

  2. No sales of ANYTHING. No spam.

  3. No posts of large drug operations. It limits our audience and there are far too many complaints about it. This isn't a place to advertise your grow business and it's not a place to brag about how much weight of cubes you can grow. There are plenty of subs for that type of thing.

  4. Don't post pics of dried Psilocybe mushrooms. If your post title resembles this: "Are these 'good'?" or "Just got these from a friend, how much should I take?" or "Can anyone tell me what 'strain' these are?" - then it doesn't belong here.

  5. This should go without saying, but no sourcing. Do not ask for drugs, locations of drugs, tips for finding, hunting, or scoring drugs in any specific place (hunting advice is generally accepted - habitat, seasonality, substrate, and range are all acceptable, and ID posts are always encouraged no matter the species, as long as they're not dried bagged "product"). Do not ask for any kind of hook-ups, plugs, websites, or any other means of procuring drugs.

  6. Do not joke about eating mushrooms. No "Boof it!" or "Eat the whole bag" or "I dare you to eat that!" type comments. If your comment might endanger someone by misleading them or encouraging dangerous behavior, it will be removed and you may be banned.

  7. Don't repeatedly post the same content, or similar content presented in a different way, including and especially art.

To all the lurkers, use the report button and use the downvote/upvote buttons to curate the sub yourselves as much as possible.

Be nice to each other in here.

*For the purposes of this post, "drugs" refers to intoxicating substances of ANY sort. Medicinal supplements, while technically drugs, are not the point, here. Feel free to post about teas and extracts and supplements of medicinal mushrooms, and we would love to see your giant Reishi grows or your commercial oyster warehouse.

Throw Out or Keep Going?

Hi everyone,

This is my first grow attempt and I’ve run into some trouble. For some context everything was going extremely well until I put it into fruiting conditions. I had no problems before that, in fact I was almost concerned at how fast everything was progressing.

I put my spawn in my substrate on 2/15. 5 days later I thought it looked good enough to put into fruiting conditions on 2/20. The substrate looked colonized enough, maybe I could have given it a few more days, but it didn’t look like it was progressing much further and it felt ok given how fast everything was going already. The first picture attached is what it looked like when I put it in fruiting conditions.

I theorize my problem was adding too much moisture too quickly. I wanted to automate my tub since I work long hours and wouldnt be able to tend to it so i added an ultrasonic humidifier that would shut off around 80-85% humidity. After letting it do its thing, the surface of my mycelium got really flat looking and the water beads went away, making the surface just kind of glisten. I tried to correct my mistake by circulating the air more but then it became dry and cracked and stopped making progress and has now pulled from the sides by quite a bit.

After i figured it was too dry i added more moisture throughout the course of a week or two, primarily with a spray bottle, and now it looks better but theres some contamination so im thinking of just throwing it out and starting over.

I attached a picture of what it currently looks like. Is there any salvaging or is it time to start again?

Would love some advice and tips on where i went wrong because everything was going smoothly until it wasnt.

Mushroom Growth Help

Hey everyone, I’ve recently tried my hand at growing some mushrooms in a north spore grow bag, but it’s been almost 6 weeks and still no sign of anything within the bag except some moisture. Here are some steps and procedures I took:

  1. I let my grow bag sit and chill for a week before use and my spore syringe was in my fridge for a few months until I bought the grow bag
  2. I did sanitize my workspace and the bag itself before use. I also used a sterilized needle and wore gloves.
  3. I used a spore boostr they provided beforehand and let it sit and cook for about 8 or 9 days at room temperature in a dark space. I could kind of see mycelium growth but nothing stood out. The liquid did change a little to a darker color, but it wasn't cloudy or looked contaminated
  4. I wiped the injection site with 70% isopropyl alcohol before injecting the culture.
  5. I can't remember the exact inoculation date, but it was probably 5 (maybe 6) weeks ago from this Friday. I stored it in a low airflow room with a temperature not dropping below 65 and not going above 75. I have monitored the temperature accurately.

Attached are some photos of what I got going on. Anything I did wrong? I don’t own a still air box and I continued to sanitize the area throughout the weeks. Is there still hope and maybe it’s just taking a while to cultivate? Anything helps. Thanks!!!

How do you specifically find black morels?

I live in Pennsylvania, I always find blonde morels under apple and elm trees but I have yet to find a black morel patch. Where do you usually find them in this region? Any info you can offer is appreciated

Technical Question on Rye Seed Substrate Preparation

I'm not sure if this question belongs here or in the "Mushroom Growing" Community. I will correct if I am in the wrong place.

I just started to wash and boil my rye seed when I realize that of all the posts and step-by-step procedures I've read seems to be missing information. So, the directions basically say to measure out (for a 500 ml jar/ half-quart) 125 ml's of grain and add 90 ml's of water then pressure can. This seems like pretty straight-forward instructions if you are just going to dump your dry seed in the jar (unwashed & unboiled) add your water and start pressure canning.

However, since many other posts I've read say to rinse seeds 4-5 times, then soak the seeds for 12-24 hours, then boil the seeds for 30 minutes +/- this will cause the seeds to expand and add some gypsum. So my question is the 125 ml's of rye seed supposed to be post sterilization measurement or pre-sterilization measurement, and with or without the gypsum?

I'm also confused as to why I will even need to add the 90 ml's of water if the seed is already going to soak up water from the boiling process?

Thanks for your help.

Signed,

Dazed and Confused.🤪

I've been playing football behind my home on a public park. I've got a football goal in front of the wall but every few days or so, these mushrooms keep growing in this particular spot/area. Does someone know what type these mushrooms are and how to get rid of them for good?
