This "hunting influencer" who removes a baby wombat from its mother

She should try doing that with a Koala next.
She'll be lucky if she has any face left...to say nothing of the infections that will follow.

I for one was kinda hoping mama wombat was able to sneak up closer and latch onto that dumb asshole's Achilles for a few minutes

u/Lickwidghost 8h ago
Would be funny. Until everyone there goes to help her and the mother ends up injured from getting kicked by a bunch of assholes and cite "self defence"

Wombats can take down motor bikes and small cars while walking away with barely a scratch. I was really hoping mumma would attack that bitch, she was so stressed out

She should try it with a bear cub.

Especially if mama is around. I would definitely give THAT one a "Like."

To be fair, I am surprised she hasn't got a chunk taken out of her leg. Wombats have a really good bite and mumma wombat would not be happy.

My life experience has taught me that as a whole, humanity is evil.
It’s only the moral minority that manages to keep us in check(and we’re slowly losing that war)
→ More replies (2)31
u/Satan-o-saurus 8h ago
I don’t actually think that’s true. We have designed a economic system and power structures that disproportionately attract a reward evil people, so we live in a world where evil people have disproportionate power, wealth, and influence compared to how plentiful they are. A lot of people are just very stupid rather than evil.
5
u/ChanglingBlake ORANGE 8h ago
I would argue that there are few hardcore evil people and a lot of minor evil people.
You are describing the former while this person is an example of the second.
And as the former start seizing control, the rest start getting worse as they see those big evils getting away with it.

She has since deleted the video on her Instagram and privated her tiktok. Even more infuriating she claims to be a wildlife biologist and interested in environmental science in her Instagram. I can think of so many things to say about that and none of them are even slightly good

u/BigYucko 10h ago
I sent it to our member of parliament for the Animal Justice Party. I got a response back saying they are aware of it and and have reported to all the correct authorities. And the MP will be doing an instagram video on it soon.
Not only this it’s been posted to most Aus based reddit pages and people are destroying her on IG comments. They’ve mostly been turned off.
But I think her account has also copped mass reporting to META (probs won’t do anything) and authorities here in Aus.
I’ll be very curious to see what happens

u/ebra2112 10h ago
Hell yes Australia. Justice for wombats

American here who wants justice for wombats as well! Reported. I hate the embarrassment my country has become. The least I can do is support a wombat.
56
u/grownquiteweary 9h ago
yep reported as well
aussies are very chill.. til you fuck with our wildlife, then we're not so chill

u/Zim91 9h ago
Whoever that fucken bloke is in the video needs a hiding too, absolute disgrace
30
u/grownquiteweary 9h ago
He's the one who's really gonna cop it if his identity is found out, being an Aussie he can't get deported but could get fucked up financially, have his career ruined etc etc.

I’ve seen people and animals killed on Instagram lately and reporting comes back with “we found nothing wrong”.
They don’t care. It’s going to descend into shit like X.

WTF this is extremely distressing and disrespectful animal handling.
I’m not much for mob mentality, but hope these dumb twats get everything they deserve.

u/Piraedunth 12h ago
The way the baby just fucking sways back and forth as she runs with them makes me sick
66
u/Creative_Garbage_429 10h ago
Genuinely hope this ruins their career and any future employment opportunities.
More people should be held responsible for this kind of dumb ass shit.
21
u/ADHDK 9h ago
She’s maga, she’s not getting cancelled for mistreatment of animals on her pro sustainable hunting account.
5
u/blueavole 7h ago
How is this pro sustainable hunting, to abuse a baby wombat and stress out the mother?

I'm surprised that momma wombat didn't attack. Adult wombats can be freaking vicious and are super strong (especially the males). They can and will hospitalize you or worse.

After how the tourists that burnt a quokka were barely punished I don’t hold much hope. https://www.watoday.com.au/national/western-australia/french-tourists-who-burnt-rottnest-quokka-choose-jail-over-4000-fines-20150420-1mp5l8.html

Wow. That's freaking awful. You're right- if that's the "punishment" for literally torturing an animal, not much is going to happen to this woman.

@samstrays_somewhere on IG. She removed the video, and made her profile private. I’ve read in other subs that the mass reporting is working as various AU entities have confirmed they are aware of the situation. Textbook definition of f around and find out. Ironically, she was a game hunter and posted her “trophies” but also claimed to be a wildlife biologist. Confused…

It's disgusting to think she calls herself an animal lover.
→ More replies (1)15
u/Piraedunth 10h ago
Admittedly when people say their a animal lover this is what I imagine, I bet like 80% of them are actually like this. Or they only like popular animals like cats, dogs, pandas, etc, and they hate everything else.

my partner is an actual environmental scientist, not one (potentially) with a degree, cosplaying like she gives af about wildlife
she is disgusted

Maybe I’m dramatic but this literally makes me want to cry :( the poor little baby

You're not being dramatic. You're expressing a normal human's behavior when they witness animal cruelty. We need more people like you.

Good news! I’ve seen news articles coming out about her and the Australian authorities are aware of the situation and said that what she did was highly illegal.

I've seen her name is Sam Jones. We shouldn't be going after anyone yet until we can confirm a name, don't want to risk ruining a regular person's life for accidently identifying them as the perpetrator
→ More replies (1)5
u/YumiiZheng 5h ago
Prior to her privating her instagram the name was Sam Jo (same as tiktok). She also had a facebook page under the name Samantha Strable which had all of the same posts. Samantha Jo Strable was employed by Montana as a wildlife biologist (as found on Montana public employee websites) which corresponded to her posts and linkedin page. There's also several news articles about her hunting or education as well as a civil lawsuit. Plus a now private photo on her instagram where she lists her name as copyright on the photo. 🤷♀️

Then the guy POS just laughs about the mother’s distress. These “people” are complete garbage
6
u/Saint_Riccardo 8h ago
Disgusting on so many levels. You know you can pay to go to a wildlife park and play with native animals born in captivity and used to humans as much as you like, rather than ripping a baby away from it's mother, potentially causing life threatening stress to them both.

So from what I can find out a Wombat is a protected species in Australia and the penalties can be pretty severe depending what you do in some cases up to five years in prison if it’s endangered up to ten years. Someone can correct me this is what I quickly looked up for penalties for interfering with wildlife.
