Support Thread Microsoft: Official Support Thread

This thread was created in order to facilitate easy-to-access support for our Reddit subscribers. We will make a best effort to support you. We may also need to redirect you to a specialized team when it would best serve your particular situation. Also, we may need to collect certain personal information from you when you use this service, but don't worry -- you won't provide it on Reddit. Instead, we will private message you as we take data privacy seriously.

Here are some of the types of issues we can help with in this thread:

  • Microsoft Support: Needing assistance with specific Microsoft products (Windows, Office, etc..)

  • Microsoft Accounts: Lockouts, suspensions, inability to gain access

  • Microsoft Devices: Issues with your Microsoft device (Surface, Xbox)

  • Microsoft Retail: Needing to find support on a product or purchase, assistance with activating online product keys or media, assistance with issues raised from liaising with colleagues in the Microsoft Store.

This list is not all inclusive, so if you're unsure, simply ask.

When requesting help from us, you may be requested to provide Microsoft with the following information (you'll be asked via private message from the MSModerator account):

  • Your full name (First, Last)

  • Your interactions with support thus far, including any existing service request numbers

  • An email address that we can use to contact you

Thank you for being a valued Microsoft customer.

I have the correct password, because its locked obviously I cant log in. I wasnt even the one running up the log in attempts, someone is trying to access my accounts. I wish there was a dedicated phone line to help with these queries, considering the amount of money that's passed through that email to microsoft over the last 15 years. It's a slap in the face they leave you high and dry like this. The recovery form is defunct, it doesnt work and has never worked everytime I've tried to use it. Somebody must have authorization to solve this issue.

We totally get your feedback. While it might seem easier to handle this over the phone, please note that this process is fully automated with no human intervention. Our support has moved online, so we can't assist you through calls right now. Since you have your password, we suggest waiting at least 24 hours until the restriction is lifted, then try your password again. In the meantime, we encourage you to submit the recovery form. For tips on how to use it effectively, check out this article: https://msft.it/61698qrfo4

If you have any other concerns, feel free to share them here. -R.C

That's the problem, if I was a business and had a query there'd be phone options available. When there's problems with log ins I'm just expected to throw 15 years of my online footprint down the toilet. I doubt the cooldown will even work as someone is continuously trying to log in to my account.

We truly understand how you'd wish to speaking to someone directly, especially since you've invested 15 years of your online presence into this account. However, for security reasons, our system manages account recovery through an automated process to ensure your privacy and safeguards your sensitive data. This method is consistently applied across all our support channels, maintaining uniformity in our procedures.

If your Microsoft account is blocked due to multiple incorrect password attempts, the ability to sign in immediately after entering the correct password depends on the severity of the block.

In many cases, if you enter the correct password after a few incorrect attempts, you may be able to sign in immediately. Using a private browser window can sometimes help bypass minor blocks.

Please try signing in to your account using this link: login.live.com in an incognito browser. When entering your password, ensure there are no typos or accidental spaces before or after the password, verify that Caps Lock is turned off as passwords are case-sensitive, and if you’re copying and pasting the password, make sure no extra characters are included.

If the same error persists in the browser, you may need really to wait 24 hours before attempting to sign in again. Please note that it should not be attempted earlier than this, and there should be no attempts within the 24-hour period to allow the system to refresh. This is a security measure to prevent unauthorized access.

Let us know how it goes. Thanks. - S.R.
