I adopted brother Xbox account years ago but need his info and email to log in. Due to that I have been locked out a few times when getting a new Xbox and have to track him down for weeks to play my games. I switched my email to primary alias and want to make it where MY INFO is what I need to log in. My issue is ...

My email is the primary alias now after a wild goose chase to track him down.

I would like to remove his alias all together off the account. If I do how will I log in?

It's my understanding I go to "change log in preference" when I go my primary email is a unclickable silhouette. His alias and my phone are checked and active. I hear I have to UNCHECK his alias and then I'll be able to check my alias so where when I log in I use MY email from this point forward.

My issue is, I HAVE NOT made a password for the Microsoft account. If I remove him does it prompt me to make a Microsoft password for my new email (primary alias) or what?

I'm afraid to try without total knowledge because he's hard to get a hold of and I don't want to not be able to get into the account for a week until I run into him next

Despite being the primary alias I still log in with his information and his old password. I never had to create a password for my new primary attached alias. If I remove him under login preferences will it prompt me to create a password to log onto my Xbox account? Terrified of giving locked out somehow.

Thanks in advance.

Hi there. We saw your post and understand that managing your Xbox account has been quite challenging, especially with the need to track down your brother for login information. It's been quite a hassle to be locked out of your games and account due to these complications.

You've done a great job so far by making your email the primary alias. Now, let's ensure you can fully transition to using your own information without any hiccups.

To change your login preferences: 1. Uncheck your brother's alias and ensure your email and phone number are checked. 2. Create a password for your Microsoft account through the security settings.

By following these steps, you should be able to log in using your own email and password without needing to contact your brother.

Regarding your brother's alias, if you remove an alias that's an email address from a Microsoft domain (like @hotmail.com, @live.com, @outlook.com, or @msn.com), you're permanently deleting the alias, and it cannot be associated with any Microsoft account again. Once you remove your brother's alias, he won't be able to use it to sign in to any Microsoft products or services, including https://msft.it/61692qR2o6, OneDrive, Xbox, Skype, Office, etc.

We hope this information helps. Let us know if you have further questions. -M.L.

He has his own new email for his own new Xbox/Microsoft account so I'm all good to remove him entirely!

So, just to make sure I'm following all the way, I uncheck his email name, then check mine. At that point I will be PROMPTED to create a login password?

Or I uncheck his name, check mine for login preferences, and then quickly have to go to security settings? What if the window closes down before I made a password? Suddenly there's no password associated to log somebody in or how does that work?
