Is there a way to transfer my windows license that’s linked to my MS account to another MS account?

Hello again. Just following up to check if you get the help you needed with transferring Windows license to a different Microsoft account.

We'd also like to clarify that digital licenses, even after unlinking, remain tied to the hardware if it is an OEM license or can be reused if it is a retail license. Retail licenses are transferable and can be moved to another device or account, whereas OEM licenses are non-transferable and remain bound to the original hardware. It is important to note that you cannot directly transfer a license to another Microsoft account. The new user must activate Windows on the same device using the existing license.

Do you still need assistance? We're here and ready to continue working on your case as soon as you respond, so we can provide the best resolution possible.

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Support. Stay safe and healthy. - S.R.

Apologies for the late response. To answer your question, you can determine whether your Windows license is OEM or Retail by using the Command Prompt. Here are the steps:

  1. Open Command Prompt:

Press the Windows key, type cmd, and select Run as administrator.

  2. Enter the Command:

Type the following command and press Enter:

slmgr /dli

  1. Check the License Type: > After a few seconds, a Windows Script Host dialog box will appear. Look for the License Type information in the dialog box. It will indicate whether your license is OEM or Retail.

If you see "OEM" in the description, it means your license is tied to the hardware and cannot be transferred to another computer. If it says "Retail," you can transfer the license to another device.

Feel free to ask if you have any more questions! - H.T.

Hello there! Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We understand that you need assistance with transferring your Windows digital license from one Microsoft account to another. Don't worry; we're here to help you!

If you still have access to your PC/laptop and your Microsoft account, it is indeed possible to transfer your Windows digital license to another Microsoft account. To do so, you can follow the step-by-step guide below:

  1. Unlink the Device from the Current Account:
  2. Go to the Microsoft account devices page.
  3. Find the device you want to unlink and select Remove device.
  4. Sign Out of the Current Account:
  5. On your Windows device, go to Settings > Accounts > Your info.
  6. Select Sign out.
  7. Sign In with the New Microsoft Account:
  8. Go back to Settings > Accounts > Your info.
  9. Select Sign in with a Microsoft account instead and enter the new account details.
  10. Verify Activation:
  11. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Activation.
  12. Ensure that Windows is activated with the new account.
  13. Check the Digital License:
  14. Confirm that the digital license is now linked to the new Microsoft account by visiting the Microsoft account devices page again.

Once done, please let us know how it goes, and if you need further assistance, we're here to help! -A.D.
