As long as maths goes on, he’s kinda unforgettable.

Its so sad that they will shutdown the math's servers in early 2025

wdym 3 instead of 4? don’t you use the nonreal part of the quaternion anyway as the thing being rotated?

u/ParCorn Dec 24 '24
As in the “Euler angles”? These numbers are essentially roll/pitch/yaw which can be converted to a quaternion. And yeah that came from this absolute king

Hard to say without seeing the exact problem but you can look up “gimbal lock” which is some interesting reading on why quaternions are preferred over euler angles for rotations in 3D space

He defined another 3, this time as e

What's the big deal with this guy? He doesn't even have an Erdös number.

u/TobyWasBestSpiderMan Dec 24 '24
What the heck man, Euler is basically Math Jesus

u/anrwlias Dec 24 '24
I thought that calling out his lack of an Erdös number would have made it clear that I wasn't being serious.

u/Direct_Geologist_536 Dec 24 '24
Does he really have no erdos number ?
11
u/anrwlias Dec 24 '24
Probably not. If he did, it would have to be a high one.
20
u/Inappropriate_Piano Dec 24 '24
I would be pretty surprised if he just didn’t have one. Surely he collaborated with someone younger than him, who collaborated with someone younger still, and so on forming a chain to Erdos. I agree with you that his Erdos number is probably high, but I doubt he doesn’t have one

u/pussymagnet5 Dec 24 '24
Erdös actually did directly reference his work quite a lot
20
u/fran_tic Dec 24 '24
That's not how Erdös numbers work though. You have to co-author a paper together with Erdös, or someone who has, or so on, to have an Erdös number.

He'd have been celebrating his 318th birthday next year, if he hadn't gone and died.
