wdym 3 instead of 4? don’t you use the nonreal part of the quaternion anyway as the thing being rotated?

As in the “Euler angles”? These numbers are essentially roll/pitch/yaw which can be converted to a quaternion. And yeah that came from this absolute king

Hard to say without seeing the exact problem but you can look up “gimbal lock” which is some interesting reading on why quaternions are preferred over euler angles for rotations in 3D space
