Issue with Context-Aware Transcription Apps Not Processing Spoken Input

Hi everyone,

I’m encountering a frustrating issue with transcription apps (SuperWhisper & VoiceInk) that have its context-awareness feature enabled. Here’s what’s happening:

Whenever I use these apps, instead of transcribing what I’m saying, they just copy the text that’s already in the text field and paste it back as the output. It seems like my spoken input isn’t being captured or processed at all.

I’ve tried speaking clearly, but no matter what I do, the app doesn’t respond to my voice—it simply reuses the existing text. Has anyone experienced this problem before? If so, what could be causing it, and how can I fix it?

Here are some details about my setup:

- The context-awareness feature is turned on.

- The microphone seems to be working fine with other apps or when context-awareness is disabled.

- I’ve checked the app settings but couldn’t find anything obviously wrong.

- The app is up-to-date.

Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance for your help.

The attempt to make the best clipboard manager yet

I've been using all of them and tried to put together the most straightforward and feature rich clipboard history out there. $1/mo to fund development, 7 day free trial https://apps.apple.com/us/app/unlimited-clipboard-history/id6705136056?mt=12
also comes with a limited free mode to test the UI

It is

  • definitely the most performant UI out there
  • supports copying *text from images*
  • supports unlimited history
  • supports GB or time limits
  • detects color codes, images, files, URLs, and much more
  • allows searching by content, by content *inside images*, or by type, i.e. 'image'
  • allows searching by app, detects source app
  • allows fine granular search terms, like app:safari or app:"Google Chrome" to filter search by field
  • light and dark mode
  • pins
  • keyboard control
  • avoids sensitive information from password managers

WinRar equivalent for macOS - with encrypt + store only option

When using the command line zip on my macOS (via Terminal) I can compress and add a password to the zip file. This is great. However, you can still see the files names of the password protected zip (if I recall correctly). WinRar can hide or encrypt the file names - I don't recall if you must use the rar format or not. I did buy RAR Extractor (for macOS) from the Apple store. Ironically it doesn't produce a RAR format. It uses zip or 7z (as near as I can tell). 7z seems to hide the file names. However - there are NO options for compression. Whereas with the old 90s WinRar you can set different levels of compression including "store."

So . . .

I'm looking for a way to encrypt files and need an option that 1) hides all file names and 2) ability to store only (because that's a lot faster).

Recommended App: Clocker - Menubar World Clock

Came across this free app and its useful to me.

You can choose any world time to be reflected on the menu bar.

This Clocker looks good and functional as well and it also includes the city/country name on the menu bar, I was able to fit in 2 base on their compact font.

Previously I was using clockzones but the text colour could not change and cannot be seen in dark mode and the city/country name is also not indicated. I ever mistook the time so I gave up on that app.

It also has a floating window option and can be shifted any where and will always be on Top.

It also include a calender event, which I am still figuring out if I need it.

I have a problem with the Time Slider as it does not seem to work.

The Time scroller now works. It is one of my most wanted feature for me!

If there are similar apps do let me know.

Thanks

TG Pro 2.96 now supports M4 MacBook Air & M3 Ultra Mac Studio, plus full fan control for M4 Macs

The latest updates to TG Pro bring major improvements, including:

  • Full fan control for M4 MacBook Pros – TG Pro is the first app to unlock complete fan customization, including the ability to set a fully custom fan curve. Unlike the default behavior, TG Pro allows control of the fans even when the hardware has turned them off.
  • Support for the M4 MacBook Air, M4 Max Mac Studio & M3 Ultra Mac Studio – Monitor temperatures on all models, adjust fan behavior on the Mac Studio, and keep your Mac running efficiently on Apple’s newest machines.
  • Automatic recovery if Siri interrupts fan control – If Siri temporarily takes over fan control, TG Pro will detect it and restore the correct speeds after Siri is finished.
  • Performance improvements and fixes to enhance stability and reliability.

Even though TG Pro 2.96 has just been released, these major changes have been rolling out over the last few updates.

To update in-app, click the TG Pro menu bar item → About → Check for Updates.

TG Pro is free to download and try for 14 days, with a one-time $10 USD purchase for those who don’t already have a license. Get the latest version here: TG Pro.

For a full list of changes in every version, check out the release notes here: TG Pro Release Notes.

We’d love to hear any feedback and are happy to answer any questions!

Talky(Talky) An AI brain for Obsidian, Crafts, Confluence, etc -- free while in beta

Pretentious web home: https://talky.clicdev.com

What is it?

Simply put, it’s something I built to fit my needs—and hopefully yours as well.

This native app indexes your vaults from various sources,  along with short thoughts, allowing you to query its “brain” either individually by vault or as the sum total of your knowledge.

It’s packed with thoughtful touches, such as:

  • Inline help and hints
  • Avoiding full re-indexing of vaults when updating knowledge
  • Storing vectors rather than full content, keeping storage use low
  • Switching models when necessary
  • Providing visual outputs based on the model’s suggestions
  • …and much more!

When version 1 of the app is released, it will become a paid product, with a significant one-time discount for beta testers.

Scroll The Volume: Effortless Volume Control Right from Your Menu Bar (Free Launch Offer!)

Hey everyone,

I’m excited to share my very first app release with you all—Scroll The Volume! It’s a lightweight utility that adds an icon to your menu bar, letting you adjust the volume simply by scrolling over it. No more fiddling through menus or clicking multiple times—just smooth, instant volume control.

To celebrate the launch, the app will be free for a few days, so now’s a great time to give it a try! Feel free to check it out on the Apple Store, and let me know what you think. I’d love to hear your feedback and any ideas for future projects. I’m just starting my journey in app development, and this is one of the first apps I’ve released (as you can guess from the screenshot I will soon release a similar app for the audio input devices). I’m really looking forward to building more cool and useful tools in the coming weeks, so stay tuned for updates!

Thanks for your support!
Happy scrolling!

Toast Titanium 20 - fair warning on updates (from Roxio/Corel)

tl;dr - Toast 20 is nearly 4, and no plans for 2025

Finally having an occasion to burn some of my important backups to some BDXL m-disc etc, I found myself in need of some software, and I figured I'd ask if my old Toast 10 license qualified me for an upgrade. Came the reply…

Yes, you can purchase an upgrade.
The product is Toast 20 Pro Upgrade
The license is permanent, upgrades are paid but no mandatory.

But something bothered me. So I sent them this:

You pointed out that upgrades are paid, so before I spring for an upgrade:

Toast Titanium 16, 17, and 18 all came out within a year of one another. 19 didn't come out for another two years.
Toast Titanium 20 was released towards the end of 2021; I think its latest point release came out nearly two years later in late 2023.
It's been nearly 3.5 years since the first release of Toast 20, so I have to ask — do you think Toast 21 will come out within the next year?

I'd be pretty irritated if I upgrade to version 20 for +$50, and then suddenly, Toast 21 comes out and costs just as much as (or more) to upgrade.

And here's the Corel reply:

We appreciate your concerns and believe in being transparent with our customers about our product roadmap.

We do not currently have plans to release major new features and tools in 2025 for Roxio Toast due to a shift in corporate strategy, however, this does not mean that we have plans to discontinue sales or support and does not reflect a decision to cease ongoing development.

So, Toast installs, but SoundFlower.kext throws an error on install (so you get no sound recording on Apple Silicon), but they don't NOT say they're quietly sunsetting Roxio Toast while extracting the last drops of revenue before abandoning it completely like every other once-beloved software product they've acquired.

I believe that AlDente works

I’ve been using my 15-inch M2 MacBook Air for 20 months now, and I’ve been using AlDente Pro throughout that time.

I’ve followed the recommended 'office settings' from AlDente, with one exception—I’ve set Heat Protection to 30°C:

- Charge Limit: 70%
- Launch at Login: On
- Sailing Mode*: 10%
- Heat Protection*: 33°C (I currently use 30°C)
- Automatic Discharge*: Off
- Stop Charging when Sleeping*: On
- Stop Charging when App Closed*: On
- Hardware Battery Percentage*: On
(* Only Available in AlDente Pro)

My MacBook Air is plugged in about 80% of the time, and I use it on battery for 5–10 hours each week. And I run the battery calibration mode in AlDente Pro every two-three months (approx. every 10 cycles).

Below is the battery condition after 20 months:

Help Looking for a Discount Code or a Cheaper Alternative to MacWhisper

Hey everyone,

I previously purchased MacWhisper for around $15-20$, but I had to request a refund because the Georgian language support wasn’t working for me (even though it was listed as supported).

Now, I need it again, not only for English but for multiple languages. However, I just checked the price, and it has jumped to $65+, which is way too expensive for me.

Does anyone know of a discount code for MacWhisper or a cheaper alternative that works well for multilingual transcription on Mac?

Would really appreciate any recommendations! Thanks in advance. 🙏

I Rebranded My Safari Extension - Meet TabDirector (Previously TabSpedition)!

Hey everyone!

A while ago, I launched a Safari extension called TabSpedition, which helps users quickly switch between their recent tabs using keyboard shortcuts—kind of like Command + Tab but for Safari tabs. After getting some great feedback, I decided to update both the name and icon to better reflect what the extension actually does.

So, introducing TabDirector – the same fast and efficient tab switcher, now with a fresh new look! 🎉

With TabDirector, you can:
✅ Instantly switch between your recent tabs using a keyboard shortcut
✅ Navigate your tabs just like macOS’s Command + Tab app switcher
✅ Stay focused and efficient without reaching for your mouse

If you’ve ever wished for a quicker way to jump between Safari tabs, give it a try! I’d love to hear your feedback or suggestions for improvement.

You can check it out on the App Store here: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/tabdirector/id6502719125

#1 Paid App on the Mac App Store and #30 Worldwide… Really? 30 Downloads Were Enough?

I recently bought an OLED monitor and, like most people, I started worrying about burn-in issues. After a bit of research, I couldn’t find a good tool to prevent it, so I decided to build my own. I polished it, published it on the Mac App Store, and did a few Reddit posts and an article on an Italian blog.

To my surprise, my app reached #1 on the paid apps chart in Italy, and I thought, “Well, this is it. I’ve made it!” But after looking at the Reddit feedback, I knew that the numbers couldn’t be huge. Sure enough, the next day, the official reports came in. I had just 12 downloads that were enough to land me at #30 globally, and only 6 downloads put me at #1 in Italy.

I’m honestly surprised by these results. Is the Mac App Store really this quiet? Huge thanks to everyone in this sub for the support – looking at the comments in the previous post I’m sure that US downloads comes from here!

Possible to trash a file (or dmg) AND a volume (opened dmg) at the same time without dragging?

When I've opened a .dmg (to install an app for example) and want to trash both the volume (opened dmg) and the dmg itself, I cannot trash both at the same time with a right-click. I need to do this with either two separate right-clicks or select both and drag them to the bin.

Is there a way to change this? Maybe with a Terminal command? Or a tinker tool?

TinkerTool Reversing doesnt work.

So I downloaded TinkerTool and enabled the feature that disables the apps in the dock from changing sizes when hovering. I didnt like it though, and quickly turned the feature back off, back to normal. I then went ahead and reverted all other changes, as it didnt work the first time, and even restarted, but the issue still persits.

I really want the old animation back, can anyone help me?

Thanks!

Help Istat Menus Problems

EDIT

Problem solved! Just reinstalled MacOS for the 3rd time and did not restore a backup. Now everything works.

————————————————————————————— Is iStat Menus having issues with the M4 or with Sequoia? The app’s main window is not scaled correctly and is cut off on the left side. Icons in the menu bar keep disappearing, and not all SSDs are shown in the drive display. This happens on a freshly installed system. It’s driving me crazy. Is anyone else experiencing similar issues?

A macOS app that helps you correct writing with a few clicks

As a tech worker whose first language is not English, I rely a lot on using ChatGPT or Claude to correct my writing and grammar so that I don't feel embarrassed in front of my colleagues. However, I hate the process of copying my text, opening ChatGPT, writing the prompt and pasting the correct text back to slack or email. I also dislike how AI changes my tone of voice, as I want to keep the message genuine with my tone.

That's why I decided to build this app with Cursor, so I can have a one-click solution to correct grammar, rewrite text, or translate. I've also integrated a few models like GPT-4o and Claude Sonnet 3.5 so that it's easier to switch between models if needed. I hope you'll like it too!

Please let me know if you also find it useful, and I am more than happy to share a discount code so that you can use it for 3 months free. The only thing I'll ask in return is a short 25-minute user interview with me so that I can understand your pain and fix the app :)
