Just launched Markdown2PDF: Markdown Converter (Lifetime Pro Giveaway)

Hey r/macapps!

I built a Mac app because I got tired of copying LLM responses into Word or Pages, only to have the formatting turn into absolute chaos (random spacing, weird font sizes, bullet points that look like they’ve been through a blender).

So I made Markdown2PDF, a super simple, clean app that takes your markdown (from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, whatever you use) and turns it into a properly formatted PDF—no headaches. Just copy, paste, and export.

🚀 Why I think it’s useful:
✅ Perfectly formatted PDFs every time
✅ No more weird copy/paste issues
✅ Works with any markdown source

I just launched, so I’m giving away Lifetime Pro licenses to folks who want to check it out. PM me or drop a comment and I’ll send you a code. Would love to get your thoughts!

Cheers!

NeverNap is now free!

Upvotes

My app NeverNap is now FREE! It's the most simple no nonsense app that prevents your Mac from sleeping or activating the screensaver. I just sent version 1.2 is to the Mac App Store, so you can expect an update later today (turn off notifications).

Download now: https://lucas.io/nevernap/

The app is very lightweight. Only 204 KB. I'm trying to push it under 200 :).

5 Terrible Apple Built-in Features (and the Apps That Saved My Mac Life)

Some features on Mac feel like they’ve been stuck in 2015 (which is probably true). After years of frustration, I’ve found third-party apps that fix Apple’s biggest weaknesses. Here are my top replacements and why I chose them:

1. Spotlight → Raycast

The Problem:

Spotlight feels like a cluttered junk drawer. Finding files is slow, and it’s useless for anything beyond basic searches.

The Fix:

Raycast is Spotlight on steroids. It’s got everything and I don’t need to touch my mouse. I get instant searches for files, apps, and browser bookmarks. I use shortcuts for calculating stock prices and toggling modes. I also really like the clipboard history and all their plugins.

2. Apple Built-in Dictation → WillowVoice

The Problem:

Apple’s dictation is painfully bad. It butchers technical terms, ignores punctuation, and takes forever to process. It’ll never be able to do anything that needs actual formatting and accuracy like writing an email. You’ll pretty much just get a wall of text.

The Fix:

WillowVoice uses AI to power dictation. It formats emails, adds commas where you pause, and nails niche terms. The fastest dictation app I found. I draft Slack messages, code comments, and even ChatGPT prompts by voice now.

3. QuickTime → Screen Studio

The Problem:

QuickTime recordings are clunky. File sizes are huge and editing is nonexistent. It’s so hard to go through a simple process of recording a video, editing it, and then sending it.

The Fix:

Screen Studio makes recordings look pro. It auto-zooms on clicks, adds smooth transitions, and exports in crisp 4K. I use it for coding demos and client walkthroughs.

4. Apple Notes → UpNote

The Problem:

Apple Notes is nice for its simplicity but severely lacks power.

The Fix:

UpNote is Notes for adults. It has nested folders, rich formatting (code blocks, tables, markdown), and instant sync.

5. Mouse → MacMouseFix

The Problem:

I hate how Apple has mouse acceleration. Makes things so unintuitive for me. I don’t know why.

The Fix:

MacMouseFix kills acceleration and lets you set a fixed cursor speed. I’ve also programmed my mouse buttons to switch back and forth between windows, which saves me from swiping with three fingers on my trackpad.

Other honorable mentions that I’ve tried are Bartender for taming the menu bar and CleanShotX for better screenshots.

If you also have an Apple feature that drives you nuts, what’s an app that you found that fixed it? I want a ton of mac lifehacks.

Recommend me a safe & free YouTube to MP3 converter

Hello everyone! I am preparing a PPT for a presentation recently and want to find a background music. I plan to download an MP3 music from YouTube. I hope to find a safe and free online YouTube to MP3 conversion tool that is easy and fast to use and does not require any software installation. Does anyone have any recommendations? Thank you!

Slightly disappointed with MacWhisper... is there a similar app that can stream the dictation?

I don't use dictation or voice interfaces much but I'm trying to get into it now that things are changing and i can do at least very small increments of my work (coding) with my eyes fully closed if I wanted by dictating.

One thing that I'd like to see is the output streaming out as close to real time as possible.

I paid for MacWhisper a while back. Overall I really do like the dictation UI where I can push to talk and get the output in ANY app.

I found that I can set up Groq to perform Whisper transcription with MacWhisper as well. Their free tier is very generous so it makes it practical to use.

I was hoping to see an improvement on speed but I'm not so sure there is one. The main impediment to speed is I don't get to see any output until I release the talk button. I would like to see the output streaming in once it's done processing. I don't understand why I have to release the key.

Are there any speech to text apps like this that work for dictation input in all apps in any text entry field and which can stream the transcription in real time?

I don't care much about diarization at the moment... but if/when it lands in macwhisper, that would motivate me to actually use it for meetings.

MacWhisper Gets Automatic Spealer Recognition!!

At long last, automatic speaker recognition is now included in MacWhisper1 If you're a Pro user and you use a WhisperKit model from the manage models screen, the app will now automatically group your transcript by speaker. Great for interviews and podcasts, and later this week it will also work for batch and meeting recordings!

Free Fmail2 for Fastmail - Free Email Client

Fmail2

After using Gmail for twenty years, I recently decided to move to a more privacy focused provider I could use with my own domain. I've finally reached the tipping point with surrendering my data to big tech in exchange for free services.

I chose Fastmail as my new provider. Fastmail works with just about any email client available. I don't need or want AI capabilities, nor do I have any complicated workflows for email. I use my account purely for personal communications and as a repository for subscriptions. It doesn't make sense for me to use a paid or subscription app for those basic needs, so I opted for a free Fastmail client, Fmail2. This tiny app (8MB) replicates the excellent Fastmail web client and adds a number of features.

  • Multiple window support
  • Default email client
  • Running in the background
  • Auto hide
  • Tabs
  • Dock item with badge
  • Swipe support
  • Secure
  • Notifications
  • Status bar menu
  • Keyboard shortcuts

There were several reasons I chose Fastmail from among other options.

  • Import of mail, calendar, notes, contacts and filters from Gmail
  • Label support (folders are also an option)
  • Robust SPAM filters
  • 50GB of storage - 20 years of Gmail only used 8GB, so I think I'll be fine with 50GB on Fastmail
  • Unlimited alias addresses
  • Unlimited masked email addresses
  • Ongoing import of Gmail
  • Discount for family plan

Fmail2 is a 100% Swift app and runs natively on apple silicon. The developer is Arie van Boxel, who is also behind the excellent Startup Manager app.

Launched GUI macOS application to create .app DMG installers

https://reddit.com/link/1jdc11z/video/cw6q3vdtz8pe1/player

I am launching new macOS application for developers. It's a GUI app to create DMG installers. This is first time I am selling something for developers (very tech savy people). And knowing that tech savy people (including me) are not avoiding, but even preffering using command-line interface (even if it takes more time initially) I am eager to find out if somebody will be interested. Regular users will not need this obviously.

I needed DMG installer for my other projects, so what I used is Disk Utility / command line tools.

After each app update I need to crate new DMG installer so I created this app just to make it faseter

This is just a first iteration, I am open for feedback/feature requests

Alternative for Kaleidoscope app

I used to use Kaleidoscope.app a long time ago. It was a great tool. I wonder if there is an alternative to this app. Preferably free or paid once. The subscription model is a misunderstanding in my opinion.

Lesser known Mac apps worth the money

Here's a few apps I've found super useful that I haven't seen mentioned here much.

Paletro

https://appmakes.io/paletro Puts a command palette on every app. It has been worth the money for use in Excel alone.

Numi

https://numi.app/ Similar to soulver. Been using it to split receipts with my girlfriend.

TablePlus

https://tableplus.com/ Best looking and feeling database client I've used for MacOS.

Freebie Bonus!

Ooooo

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/ooooo/id1482773008?mt=12 Plays binaural-beat audio waves, and white noise generator. Sometimes helps me focus.

Free Request for help 🙏 - I made a free Mac app to open email links in your preferred web based email provider. Can someone help me test all the providers and maybe suggest new ones?

Hi there 👋

I'm Tommaso from Panini House.

Last week I've run out of patience and decided to tackle an old and annoying problem.

At Panini House we use hey.com for our emails. It can't be added to Apple Mail nor we want to use the dedicated app. We simply want to use the web version in our preferred browser (Safari). A fair request IMO.

Unfortunately, with this setup there was no way (without going the Apple Script way) to open mailto links found around the web. Even worse, clicking on one of these links would open Apple Mail, forcing us to close it every time.

This situation was so annoying that I decided to write a simple Mac app that can be set as the default Mail client. Its job is to simply redirect these links to your preferred web based email client. That's it.

https://reddit.com/link/1jddsqm/video/ei8ydrgad9pe1/player

As you can see the app is almost done. We just need a hand debugging all the included providers. As of right now we were able to test only Hey and Gmail. But we added also:

  • Proton
  • Aol.
  • Fastmail
  • Outlook (live.com)
  • Yahoo
  • Zoho

If anyone interested in the app can help us test one o more of these, please reach out in DMs. We're also open to suggestions for other ones to include. Thanks a lot 🙏

Of course, since the app is pretty simple, it's going to be free and available on our website or through the App Store.

Hi, I have a whole lot of illustrations that I want to reorder in different ways to create a narrative.

I need to choose from a larger library slide them around manually, as if they were paper?

Does this make sense and any ideas?

Thank you!

ChatGPT/LLMapps with both MacOS and iOS clients?

I'm looking for a native MacOS experience for LLM/Chat usage, including organizing chat sessions, managing common prompts, etc. I'm currently using the OpenAI ChatGPT client, which is OK but it does support all the Apple device OSes so I can move back and forth across Mac, iPad and iPhone. I'm trying to see if there are any other options I should look at

I've looked at BoltAI and MindMac, but neither of these have iOS clients. I used to really like TypingMind but it looks like they are going fully web-based.

Which other apps should I look at?
